Is there a link to this information? Do you mean a skill cap implemented or something? If so, I'd probably be interested in playing.
Currently playing: No MMOs Played properly: WoW Tried: AoC, WAR, Aion, Darkfall Looking forward to: FFXIV, Earthrise, The Secret World, Guild Wars 2 (very much), Project Copernicus (and Mercury for that matter), Everquest and Planetside Next (finally a meaningful mmofps again) Wants to play in 2 years time if it survives from the subscriptions of fanatics and turns into the game with all features stated on the website: Mortal Online
Guess op refers to yesterday's patch which seems to accelerate several skill gains by factor 2. IMO there was never a grind but that would lead to another debate on principles.

In this last patch we sped up skill progression for all skills, except for crafting skills. We said we would, but we couldn’t get it in due to issues with it. We’ll get it in the next patch in about two weeks. Also, there were questions about when we’re planning to add stats to Meditation, and the plan is to start doing that in the next patch as well.
it is at least 2x or 3x faster btw including offensive spells
I've thoroughly enjoyed playing today seeing my spells even at a higher level increasing at a good rate. I would say DF's 'grind' is no different to the standard MMO now, ofcourse if you want to max everything it will take a while but to get to a comfortable PvP-capable stage just the standard.
There's still no skill caps or specialisations - everyone is the same, and you're still forced to skill up every magic school, archery and at least 1 melee weapon just to be minimally viable.

you have no idea what darkfall is, probably never played, and i'd appreiciate you not commenting on things you know nothing about. thank you kind sir.

Polarization has a better understanding of the game than the majority of its players and potentially some of the devs. Look through his post history, the guy makes solid points. However, the grind was a great step foward for Aventurine and I'm certain after reading the latest blog post the the best is yet to come.

I have been a subscriber. I unsubbed because of the insane grind, the lack of sandbox depth, and the fact that everyone is the clone of everyone else -- you are forced to train the exact same magic, archery and melee that everyone else has, no exceptions.
I love the concept of Darkfall but I have grave concerns for the ability of Aventurine to follow through with their original vision of the Darkfall sandbox. I will keep waiting, like everyone else.
the idea that you have to train every skill is absurd. No one in the game has all the skills maxed, and it probably isn't even possible.
Do you have to grind up the basic skills of a few magic schools, archery, and melee to be competitive? yes. but you can choose your abilities and skills and spells based on your playstyle. Who says the only types of classes a game can have can only perform one class role?
The specific skills vary on every player based on playstyle, dramatically, just not in the sense that players completely don't train melee or use zero spell schools.

The game isn't balanced but you are wrong. You don't need all schools or all magic to compete.

It's funny how the average online users on the forum is steadily going up..
That is a result of the total barrenness of the pvp mmo market rather than any real increase of intereset in DFO. I mean when was the last decent mmo with pvp released? I can't even think of one in '10
skills were never the problem its the stats..... anyone that says that isnt true is an idiot someone who has 100 in everything is gonna manhandle anyone whos got 40 and all theyre skills done. he will hit twice as hard have twice the stamina and twice the mana and likely has been pvping for 2 years where uve been doing it for a month. I quit the game about a year ago after they changed the magic I played for 13 months I played when the sieged were huge and you could find pvp anywhere now after I tried a free trial you cant find anyone anywhere.

You wasted all the punctuation on your first thought.
Neither stats, nor skills are a problem. You greatly exaggerate the situation. A vet should have the upper hand when facing someone with both less experience playing the game and less character development. I'm afraid the difference between 20 str and 120 str is about 10 damage.
There's still no skill caps or specialisations - everyone is the same, and you're still forced to skill up every magic school, archery and at least 1 melee weapon just to be minimally viable.
This is a sad truth but at least now it takes less time to skill up all those skills your forced to skill up.
Now instead of 100 years, it will only take 30-50 years? Yay.
Put in a skill cap and reduce travel grind (that may already be being done?) and I'll play. In other words, make it more like Old UO.
I don't want to see travel increased at all. I want to see it decreased if anything. The only thing that should be increased for travel is boats need to go about 2x faster.

Exactly. Ultima Online was and still is very successful, at that is not a coincidence, their developers knew very well what kind of game experience they wanted and it was (at least for me) probably the most rewarding game I have ever played.
In my opinion a skill cap would change Darkfall for good; it would correct many things and attract many players to the game. I know some people would not like Darkfall to change like that (probably some veterans), but the PvP experience would be much more realistic and attractive. Also... if you put a skill cap you are also automatically reducing the grind, as you would only have to grind for the first weeks/months, and then forget about it and enjoy the game for years to come.
I am glad to see that, despite the constant arguments by the fans, AV actually does appear to understand why they have lost so many of their players. Any changes that reduce the barrier for entry in a PvP oriented game like Darkfall are positive changes.
Unfortunately I think it might be a little too late at this point. I started this game with 3 RL friends and all of us quit after a few months because of the grind. I know that none of them will come back and give the game another chance at this point. You only have one chance at a first impression and I fear many people have a very very bad impression from their first try at the game.
Personally I plan to give the game another shot in light of the recent changes that have been made... but I am the type of gamer who revisits my old MMOs every few years. Most of the other gamers I know will never play an MMO again after being disappointed once.

Similar thing with me and the people I played with.
I think we'd come back only if there was a skill cap

The grind is gone...
So are the majority of Darkfall players!

I love when people talk crap about Darkfall because there still isn't a better game. It shows you how bad all the other MMO's are out there.

I played from launch , but left due to the slow skill increase , I just didnt have the time .
I just resubbed a few days ago and am very happy with the change ,I can now see a real difference after just an hours session
Have also had some great unplanned PVP encounters ...
Meditation is cheaper and quicker now, Skill Gains have been doubled,
and they are still working on more additions.
