PS3 or PC version?

CammyCammy Member Posts: 864

Hey guys,

Simple question - I know the PC and PS3 versions run on separate servers. My PC is "ok" - a few years old and nothing special. I thought about the PS3 version due to better hardware and what not but I have my doubts. I do have a USB keyboard but I can't picture picking it up everytime I need to chat. I dont have PS3 Plus or w/e its' called - so it's kind of a tough choice.

Anyone have any opinion on which is the better buy? How do you guys find a keyboard and mouse compared to the gamepad? Truthfully - I tried the beta on PC a while ago and I felt the controls on PC were a little clunky. In fairness, I dont believe I gave it a fair shot.

Any opinions would be awesome - thanks!

I've only seen the PS3 version and I have to say the UI is a piece of poo poo that really needs an overhaul.

I couldn't believe some of the stuff I was seeing; going 'REALLY?!' while my friend showed it to me.

I would definitely recommend the PC since the UI seems functional on it. Can't go wrong with Mouse/Keyboard either. :)

I went for ps3 version. No regrets as I get to sit in comfort and play on a big screen. The UI is a little slow to react at times but is fine for combat. I use the official ps3 keypad which helps with chat and UI shortcuts. I've not seen the PC version so can't comment on that.

Thanks for the replies - I have a couple of follow up questions :)

When you say the ui in clunky, do you mean the character menus/chats, etc? I am hopeful the game play is at least fluid as that's the most important from my point of view. I know the game has bugs and has had some server crashes, neither of which bothers me (been playing MMOs since "the day") and I know those things will get resolved. More concerned about the game play and combat.

I dont really know much about this game but I've heard good things so thought I'd give it a try. Was planning to roll on a PVP server, haven't picked a side yet but Ill play around with that when the time comes.

I heard the world is very nice and plentiful - is there much instancing? Also is the world fluid and seemless or is there constantly loading screens which popup? I dont mind either tbh but it plays into my decision on which platform as my PC isn't the best as I mentioned - and Id suspect it would be faster for me on the PS3 version.

Tough choice indeed - I've never played a console MMO before so that part peaked my interest from the get go. I was worried about the communication aspect and as well - most console gamers don't seem thrilled with the ideal of paying for a monthly fee. I was curious how this affected the server population and attitude, especially on the PS3

The gameplay is fluid and not effected by the ui. The chat and everything is not very responsive. It takes an eternity to go through everything like options, inventory, etc. The so called "quick chat" is not so quick.

The world has instancing... instances are for the epic quests, pvp matches, and pve missions.

You won't do a lot of loading if you stay in the city area but eventually you will have to do some loading into another city or into an HQ or sanctuary. Otherwise the game is mostly persistent.

Thanks for the feedback. I figured you'd be instanced for pvp or pve missions - I guess I was most concerned with the world itself. So for example, if you go from uptown to downtown (using arb. terms) would you hit a loading screen or would you simply just go to the next zone?

The game looks super interesting and you basically confirmed what I heard from the official forums.... horrible chat/ui/inventory but fantastic gameplay. I suspect the first part can be fixed with some time and effort from development - making this game pretty worthwhile to try out IMO. Most seem to like it at least...

I may give the PS3 version a try to be different but I was concerned the community there would dry up much faster than on the PC version. I know they're on separate servers so its not like they can mix and merge them if necessary.... guess that's my biggest issue outside the keyboard/controller switching and the inability to properly communicate over console. I like to interact with folks in MMOs but Im also somewhat quiet and to myself as well (and solo quite a bit...).

Is there anything else I should know before picking this game up? :)

Same as above. The biggest issues I find are chat UI and the slowness when switching options in UI. Over all it's a blast to play. Its also my fist console mmo, I'm sure I'll be subbing for another month but after that it depends how it holds my interest.

UI can be better but far from a piece of poo poo and I find this user to exaggerate and biased towards PC.

PC/PS3 is the same game, same UI and actually the game is worse when played with mouse+keyboard for combat

    Anyway,

Menus can be a bit sluggish at times and the chat is kind of annoying even with a keyboard because of the "virtual keyboard" pop-up that blocks the entire screen.

Note that some delay in the menu is INTENDED (notice that when you press L2 or R2 then the icons get zoomed in - to actually get into that menu you have to wait 2 seconds - so you don't flip through pages, you choose icon + wait 2 seconds for it to appear)

PS3 version, controlling the camera is a p.i.t.a. while fighting.

PC version you'll end up with carpal tunnel.

Besides that it's pretty much the same game.

If you're used to playing console games (especially something like Prototype) and you're competent enough to manipulate the right stick for camera you won't have problems with that either btw :)
