An SWG player that (reluctantly) moved to WoW...

GlanderGlander Member Posts: 32

Hey gang. I was a veteran SWG player that was seriously screwed by the CU. I tried the CU for several days, I was primarily a non-combatant and I couldn't really respec anything to help me out. I was getting one-shot killed everywhere I went and I owned five vendors which I refused to empty and restock (as SOE told us we had to do). So I cancelled and moved to WoW.

I was a SWG addict. I played every chance I got. So I was pretty down when I started looking for a replacement for my MMORPG addiction. So I bought WoW and I've been playing for two weeks. Thus far, I've had a lot of fun with it. It has definitely kept my interest. I can craft, mine, and do other non-combat related things. The graphics are nice (cartoonish, but cool) and there are plenty of places to explore. The game is very, very playable for casual, solo gamers. The lag can be pretty bad and the community can be immature, but I started a guild for players aged 20 and up and I've gotten about 13 quality players now (www.guilduniverse.com/theknights).

Anyways, I just wanted to share my experience with you guys. If you haven't tried WoW, maybe you should. I've been enjoying it almost as much as SWG.

Ok everyone i agree with old CB up here if you enjoy picking pumpkins and sewing socks then o yes definetly go to WoW.

But if you dont wanna be a 110% Carebear and wanna be around the surruondings of Star wars then dont leave, and play to crush!

LOL. ::::18:: I guess if you like picking pumpkins, then there are plenty to pick. If not, it is okay to walk past them. ::::02::

I'll agree..WoW is fun. Personally, I'm just upset with how Blizzard has been lying to the fans. If you dont know I'll explain later. Also, the crafting system in WoW is about the same depth as Guild Wars crafting which is to say not very. I'll go back to WoW when they finally get all the things they promised in cause it really is fun. Its just missing things I was looking forward to at launch.

I haven't had the opportunity yet to play SWG...waiting for next week impatiently, but the crafting system sounds exactly like what I was looking for. I also love how the multi-classing works. Being a brand new player, I'm sure I'll have a very different perspective than Glander. Regardless, good luck Glander.

Please tell me you're being sarcastic or have recently suffered a head injury ::::12::

When I played SWG I had to roam around for hours looking for pvp. Maybe during that time I'd come across a handfull of overts. My favorite was standing around in the middle of a group of coverts waiting for them to 'prepare' to attack, lol.

To the above poster about crafting. I don't think Blizzard ever intended to have a robust crafting system. It fits the needs of the game and beyond a few tweaks I wouldn't change a thing. SWG's crafting system got a swing from the almighty bork bat recently, but it's still one of that game's better aspects.

You dont know what a grind is untill you've played Lineage 2...dear GOD...

  • IcoGamesIcoGames Member Posts: 2,360

Lol, I agree know one knows what grinding is until they play Lineage 2. I'd say the same for pvp. L2 has a great pvp system.

Out of all the games I've played WoW's leveling has been the most enjoyable. I'd rather do quests, then go and kill abizillion of x beast. Pre-CU you could grind through most professions in a matter of hours, but once you finished you just got bored and switched to the next. At least now the SWG dev deam has seen the merits of quest based leveling with ROTW.

I play both games and I like both of them.

SWG is my game for the long run. Nuff said.

WoW is for short, recreational, no-need-to-think playing.

SWG can learn A LOT from WoW about motivation and treatment of new players, as it is one of the most enjoyable games at low levels. At high levels its a grind that quickly gets boring. A PvP server is the only place i have seen where PLAYERS are farmable resources (ever seen camping Level 60 rogues harvesting Level 49+ players in certain locations for honor points ?).

Camping has diminishing returns, to the point it's not worth it. Thankfully, folks on my server are starting to realize how the Honor System works.

I'm not sure how SWG is a game for the long term. I played for about a year and half, when really I should have left after a few months. The main reason I stayed was that I enjoyed spending time for with my guild mates. Beyond running a crafting/resource business (and if you're a glutton for punishment, running a city), the other professions quickly wear thin on non-repetitive things to do.

  • L2 is "THE" Grinding Game of all time, not only that you Must camp 98% of the time you play it, But the adena Farmer and Other PKer Bi*ch make you loose all your Earned xp faster then you Earn Them! And Trust me or not, Lvl isnt the Hard part of the Game "OH NO" , Farming for the dam Money is the Hard part, if you dont use IGE.com ( or something like that, dont remember) you will Loose 10 Years of your life to gain a Weap, to see 10 Min later a Guys Who Buyed the Adena From IGE.com to Buy it in less then 10 min!

L2 is a Shame to MMoRPG ( But in KR version , the Game ROX ITS INCREDIBLE)

PLay L1 its Already WAYYYYYY beater then That Crappy L2 ( Fan And Big Suppporter of L1)

I hope SOE takes a good look at L2 before they make a decision on allowing sales of in-game items.

i would love to play SWG but evertime i try it says some error crap.
  • ErillionErillion Member EpicPosts: 10,329

You did send in the error messages to their Technical Department on the SWG forum website ?

    http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board?board.id=Techsupport

I found their Database quite useful when I had problems with my video card drivers .. and that is also one of the main reasons for problems in SWG.

I guess you already did the "Full Scan" routine ?

    Have fun

Having played WoW from launch I have to say its a VERY simple game. The easiest MMORPG I have ever played and I can see why Blizzard would make it that way. To appeal to the 9-14 year olds who want to try mmorpgs but never figure out what to do so they eventually quit. Nevertheless I played WoW for 5 months and had fun during this time but dont think its not a grind game and although the leveling is quick and simple at the beginning, the grind really kicks in later. I just eventually grew tired of it. I made it to 60 relatively quick and got some instance level gear and then it just hit me...I have nothing else to do in this game unless I wan to pick pumpkins or make socks lol. Just waiting for total experience package now so I can finally get back into this game after leaving soon after launch.
