In another assertive move by Blizzard Entertainment to crack down on World of Warcraft gold and items vendors, PayPal has agreed to prohibit the use of its accounts for buying and selling these virtual goods. Blizzard complained to PayPal using an "Intellectual Properties violation" which PayPal has chosen to honor. According to Curse, "PayPal has honored these complaints, and has sent notices to all affected parties stating that they must stop providing these "services" on their website(s). If they refuse, they can no longer use PayPal as a payment option."
ou were reported to PayPal as an Intellectual Properties violation by Blizzard Entertainment Inc. for the sale of World of Warcraft Merchandise.
If you feel your sales do not infringe upon the intellectual property rights of the Reporting Party, please complette the attached Objection to Infringement Report by January 21, 2011.
The completed form should be faxed to the attention of the Acceptable Use Policy Department at [number removed] or emailed to [email removed].
Should you choose not to object to the report, you will be required to remove all World of Warcraft Merchandise from the website [url removed] in order to comply with the Acceptable Use Policy.

Now I can look through my span folder for a completely different set of WoW related spam emails. :-)
It's good to hear that they are doing something about the account selling and such. I'm not sure how much PayPal will cut down on it. I think there will be far fewer people willing to provide an actual credit card number to an account buying/selling "company" or a gold selling "company" though, so it should do something.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
...or they'll just mark the PayPal transaction as something other than "WoW Gold" and PayPal won't know any different. :P
This'll only really stop the idiot gold-sellers, not the professionals. Same ol', same ol'.
Now how will we catch the wolf!?

Put through the personal paces of my crippled fingers.
Nice. But they should add PayPal to the Blizzard Shop!

Good ol' Blizz. You became so powerful, that even Paypal is shaking in their boots.
I hope, you didn't became so powerful, that you forget to make good games.
either this is fake or someone cant spell. if you get this in your email and you HAVEN'T purchased gold i'de be leery.
...and, how would Blizzard know ones PayPal account to report anyway?
The statement I saw was they were clamping down on the gold sellers' PayPal accounts, not WoW's players. Which is easy to find out, as all they need to do is try and buy some gold.
I would suggest anyone getting this, should request PayPal to verify they sent it by going to their support directly.
This is being sent to the websites selling the gold, not the users that use the sites.
In otherwords, if those sites do not remove all WoW references, and gold/powerleveling services from their site, then paypal will stop those sites' paypal accounts until they comply, effectively slowing, or stopping most sites as most use paypal.

sorry was in a rush writing this b4 i left work, meant to imply if you have a paypal account and received something like this.
This isn't going to stop them. It's an obvious blow to the gold selling industry but this isn't going to stop anything, it's just going to slow it down for a little while.
Is not entierly true ! When on the paypal specify exacly what you buy or sell the client can complain for the item if something goes wrong, and can use justice to recover the money. If you buy gold and on the paypal account and write that you bought potatos instead of gold , if something goes wrong you will never recover your money, maby potatos for the next soup ) !
It is a shame that Blizzard has to resort to things like this. But kudos to them trying to stop it. The only real way to stop it completely is for all of us players (who buy gold) to not buy any anymore. If sellers are forced to go to credit cards and or some cryptic product name change, it will deter many buyers, as giving your credit card information to some outfit who is already a crook may not look too attractive any more, and they may not want to take a chance just so they can buy tens of thousands of gold and contribute to inflation in the game.
I have never bought any gold, and would not, as it not only is "cheating", but is also not worth it. 20,000 gold on one of my toons wouldn't make me a better player, and buying stuff with it would only make me feel guilty.
My advice to all is ..... STOP BUYING GOLD! No buyers = no sellers.
If Ya Ain't Dyin, Ya Ain't Tryin
This will have 0 impact on gold sellers. There are too many ways to purchase gold via other means other than Pay-pal.
What this does is shut down one more "legitimate" lane of payment for illegal goods. Of course it won't stop WoW gold from being sold, no one said it would, so it's rather pointless to keep saying it won't.
Paypal should have done this on their own long ago. They won't allow payment to poker sites for fear of breaking U.S. laws about on-line gambling sites, yet they allowed obvious gold-selling sites to operate through them? Frankly, it lowers my respect for them a little, Blizzard shouldn't have had to say anything to begin with.
It's not Paypal's job to police every little transaction, and without due process privacy must be respected, but assisting obvious criminal activity is another matter.
Blizzard is to blame in one way: they have made WoW attractive to every Joe able to hit keys on a keyboard, regardless of whether they actually want a real game or not. Because they have attracted many of the kind of players that don't care about earning anything, they have attracted more players who will buy gold. If they want to cut down on people who buy gold in WoW, then one thing they could do is improve the quality of the player base. They seemed to be aiming for that in Cataclysm, but I'm not sure they are going to stick to their guns.
