Looking for a game with Guild Wars styled missions.

schrollbachschrollbach Member UncommonPosts: 72

Hey there,

I'm trying to find a new game to play, I'm just incredibly bored of WoW now even after Cataclysm. I began MMOs with Guild Wars (even though it's not much like most MMOs). I liked the atmosphere and the change in scenery, and I always enjoyed traveling around in WoW and exploring new areas. I'm looking for a game that doesn't focus so much on doing 50 quests at once, and more of a game that focuses on following 1 or 2 difficult quest lines and still has a nice environment  that is open to explore.

Does something like that even exist?

I haven't found an mmo with missions like in GW. There might be an odd quest or dungeon in some mmos that remind of the gw missions but they are just a one off. I think you are out of luck (or just play guild wars again).

honestly, I'm just looking for a game where i can explore the geography and enjoy the environment while doing quests and it not feel like i'm doing work. i hate having to plow through 200 quests in an area and i don't get to enjoy the scenery. i recently played the eq2x and i found it fun, but it seemed like the areas were small and constricting. i am really tempted to give vanguard a try, but it seems like the game is pretty much a ghost town.

    any other advice?

Those were the two I thought of right away when I read your original post. EQ2 does get bigger zones as you level higher. I am not sure how far you gotten. As far as Vangard, I do like the enviornment and the crafting is unique, if you are into that, but you are right the community is small. About 400 on the server during peak and they are all spread out.

i only got to level 20 something and i got to a new zone and it was quite a bit bigger than the "starter" zone but i never got around to exploring it all, but i assumed it was a lot like age of conan where a lot of it was instanced. So it does get a lot larger and more spread out?

Sorry to cut in but I do not understand how WoW could have millions of subscribers while Vanguard has this little . ... I mean that is a lot of zeros added to match how many people play WoW. Did people not love it or market it or . ... what the hell? WoW is like the Walmart of MMOs lol still do not understand why they did not continue to make Vanguard into something more. Not sure if I am talking to the producer or the customer when I ask to stop killing a product that has value. It is worth playing to many people more than WoW. Bahhh I lost that game's FFA PVP that I played for years. Now there is just PVE but I mean if you have friends to play with it will be fun no matter what game. 400 is a pathetic low number. I would still play it over WoW with that number if I was playing with friends and had a vote on what to play though if they just wanted PVE.

The issue with Vangard is not the game in its current condition, but what it was at release. The game was so hyped up that there was a large community at the time supporting it before release. I was in beta for it and loved what they had at the time before release, but there were so many bugs and allot of content unfinished. The developer was forced to release due to time and mostly due to money issues. Anotherwords it was forced out without being complete and still had tons of bugs, more so then most games at release. So many got burned and turned away. It wasnt until about 6 months later that things were being worked out and fixed, but by then most of the community moved on and went to other games.

Thats the lesson to all developers. They need to make sure they got the proper funding and dont release until its done.

Vindictus for fantasy , for sci fi global agenda.

As close as I can think to anything like Guild wars  and its co-op style mechanics.

Try DDO. The world exists as a hub for a bunch of missions, which are instanced just for you like GW. An absolutely fantastic game and free-to-play... although it gets a little hard to not spend money past level 10 ( 20 levels total.)
