Won't it just get hacked again and people will exploit camping spots where mobs can't reach them in order to bot and power level?

Shadowbane had serious lag issues and stuff. It would need more than just re-released. More like it needs to just be released for free or have a development team clean up the issues.

I was among the first people to hit level 70+ when that game released because my friend made me buy it when it came out and it was the first mmorpg I ever played for over 48 hours straight two times in a row. I seriously wiped myself out playing that game. I was a human templar with the angel form before wolfpack/ubisoft nerfed it. The only reason I didn't like it was because it was more of a strategy rpg yet it lagged bad and so many bugs like can't fly over buildings which all frustrated me. Even though the graphics were really old I eventually grew to love them though.

I think there may have also been a huge class and racial imbalance but I didn't stick around long enough to find out. I pretty much quit after the angel form nerf as I needed a break from playing it so much. When I came back to the game, the lag issues were still there and I couldn't get anyone else to play with me. I saw people exploiting in certain spots to power level without having to fight monsters. That just pissed me off and I had to quit. I worked hard to get to the max level and here were people easily cheating to get there with no effort and no one is doing anything to stop them.

I've recently googled IPY to remember good old times and found out that they are reopening their shard soon once again (in beta now)...

    Watching that one closely :)

This is actually quite surprising to me.  It was so easy to level in Shadowbane my guild and I never even thought about trying to exploit it.  I mean there was no penalty for power leveling, so you could load up a full group with 2 or 3 high levels and however many else low levels (I think the max group size was either 8 or 10) and then just grind mobs, you could hit max level in a few days that way.  No mob exploiting needed, just good old fashion grinding.

I guess we never noticed because we always ran in a group and if we saw opposing guild players we killed them.

Oh well, anyway.  I miss Shadowbane too, but as Plasm said, it would need a serious overhaul before anyone would play it in this day and age.  It was a niche game for it's time, today it would be dead in the water.

I miss Shadowbane as well. Some of the best PvP I ever had was on that game. I remember playing my Rogue, finding a target, going stealth, watching my target farm an area, gank him, and then take all his gold. Ahhh memories...

    Yes

Maybe that Game Salem will be like Shadowbane 2.0?

I remember how excited I was when I got into Shadowbane beta. That was wrecked by getting stuck all the time in buildings, terrain etc. If they redo the graphics, would be cool to have Shadowbane 2.0.

ToO was such garbage though.  How many folks left during the ToO beta for the WoW beta?

Even prior to that, how many times did a side win?  As in, they took over everything?  The world was too small (as opposed to something like EVE).

Something like Shadowbane?  Definitely, but it would need to be larger and offer more.

It is kind of funny, thinking about it - how much WoW could have been more of SB 2.0 instead of the Fisher-Price game it became.

I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?

was shadowbane always point and move? I played it when it came out, then resubbed a few years ago and I thought it was strange it was point and click to move when I resubbed.

Yes. No WASD in Shadowbane. At least not when I played.

ew... i suppose that rather than

    1) buy it from ubisoft
    2) find and hire at least some guys that worked on it to have some chance to do something with it
    3) try to understand code and technology more than 8 years old
    4) make it compatible with modern hardware and software
    5) fix everything that didn't work
    6) release a game with terribly dated graphics

one would rather make something from scratch and spend far less. it's not a quick buck, it's probably a nightmare for any developer...

Add me to the Shadowbane 2 fan club.   Update the graphics and keep the awesome class system.   Where do I send my money?

some great pvp memories in that game.  definitely would need an engine upgrade and visual overhaul - remember it having such an awful interface and really didnt like point-and-click moving.

If "they" made a Shadowbane sequel/remake with the same basic mechanics and:

    - A brand new engine, built from the ground up. I think we can all agree that SB's engine was a crock of utter shit. I want stability and less bugs.

    - New graphics and a few slightly more interesting areas and landscapes

    - A better way of levelling than just grinding MOBs

    - WASD movement. I don't care whether the game needs WASD movements (hardcore fans would tell you that your position on the battlefield in unimportant hence point-and-click movement is all you need) it feels way more natural to me.

I'd buy it in an instant.

    Always read the small print.

a better way of lvling..you could max lvl to pvp and defend mines  in like 2 days.adding quests is a fail..it was always about pvp mmo ..never quest grinding
