Final Fantasy XIV: Battle System Changes Detailed

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

The Final Fantasy XIV Lodestone has been updated with information about changes coming to the Battle System with an update scheduled to go live on Wednesday, February 2nd. The changes are, according to developers, a direct result of player feedback and include new text commands, enemy rank and party composition and XP awards.

Battle: Skill and Experience Point Awards

Several balancing changes will be made that will bring greater benefits than ever before to multi-player battle. Party bonuses will be adjusted to award larger amounts of skill and experience points based on party size. Further changes will also ensure that greater differences between player and enemy rank will yield greater rewards as well. The amount of skill and experience points available from enemies ranked lower than a player will be reduced, but defeating enemies ranked higher than oneself will now yield greater amounts.

For players engaging in solo battle, the amount of skill and experience points currently awarded after rank 20 falls off sharply. To address this, we will be implementing changes that will better balance the amount available between ranks 20 and 23.

    sounds good to me

the struggle to free myself from restraints becomes my very shackles

  • Absolutely....They release a bare bones game...everything worked, except for a few tweaks. Now adding content, NMs, gear related quests, making the market system easier to use...looking like a bright future.

This BS. Garbage and non-sense. YOU (SE) don't get to dictate how many hours we want to play everyday. If I want to stay loged in and only work on my one main job, don't limit that. This leve is just BS.

Once we've finished the main battle leves, it's like, allright you're done for the day, see you tomorrow. What is this...

You can grind on mobs in a party or solo..... It sucks to do that but I'm just saying.

FF14 is in a bit of trouble here. While it sounds like they are moving in the right direction, their big move was supposed to be the fact that it would be out a full year before Guild Wars 2 lands, and at least plenty of time before SW:TOR. Now, I cant imagine them fixing everything before GW2 hits, and certainly not before SW:TOR, so even if they do eventually fix everything, everyone will move on to something new.

But, I guess they kind of deserve it. You can't just milk dry one of the best video game franchises in history and not expect to have it backfire eventually.

Just put the damn game out if its misery and move on.

So it's cool that they gave you a plate of crap because they decided to put some salt on it?

Someone wake me when the game actually has content beyond those horrid guildleves they tried passing off as quests.

The sparse story quests weren't anywhere near enough.

Now they need to work on making combat animation and combat damage sync up.

These are honestly very superficial changes. Tweaking the EXP rewards are not going to make battles more interesting. Making attacks sync up properly and prevent cheating bastard AI monsters from hitting you from way out of melee range will make the battles better. Hope they work on that eventually.

All enemies have ranged attacks, there's nothing 'cheating' about it.

makes perfect sense when you give out snare/root abilities to classes ? super effective!

they either cant or dont want to fix this game, visual changes wont make a half broken boring combat system better.

?? They should've know better to release a skeleton only. And even at that, all the joints are broken. FFXIV has no chance competing against, DCUO, Rift, SWTOR, GW2, Tera. The 4 that are being developed in US have immense focus on story. Tons of voice overs in DCUO, GW2, TOR.

Well, the appeal was Final Fantasy, and that it is never expected to be Star Wars or DC Universe.  It is for fans of the story.... Of course, it makes no sense if they don't put in enough story and quests, because the games are awesome, so how could they have ruined the mmo so badly? It boggles the mind. ...

Star Wars Galaxies was better, but once again, that is because I like Star Wars, I won't be playing DCUO becaue I don't care about the story and being a superhero. I won't be playing Guild Wars 2, because I'm not into its storyline, nor have I heard any real info to hype me on Tera.  Rift wasn't unique enough to get my interest, Tera looks pretty but I know nothing about it, so I would have played FF 14 if it was fun, graphically impressive and had a great story.  It really didn't need to do much to compete against the other mmos, all it had to do was be fun, compare graphic wise, work on my computer (which I heard it does work just boring?),  and have a good story behind it....

Unfortunaely, I was told that even being free you need to buy the box right? So, its still better to wait?

*sigh* I love the job class system, and I really do want to be able to play all of the classes.  Dancer/Musician were fu n in Star Wars Galaxies, and if Bard/Dancer/Summoner work well and are balanced with other classes, I would have had a blast playing FF14 - if the game was all that it was hyped up to be ><
