Napa Valley is a shard (server) for Ultima Online , way back in mid-late '90s
I'm pretty sure Napa was in a bay area data center ( SF bay area ). I always got a really good ping from there.
Actually I know it was a server, but also knew it was in the north bay of SF. Just was trying to connect the two. It's obvious that somebody at EA (which is also located in the South bay of SF) named this shard/server after the area in northern california.

All the original UO servers were named after the region they were in, primarily because this was in the days of dial-up and ping time was much more of a concern than it is now. Most people would connect with their regional servers for both connection speed and being around others who play when they do.
Unless there has been a recent merge, all of the original UO servers are still running to this day.

"When it comes to GW2 any game is fair game"
I started on that shard when it first popped up, it was pretty lonely there for a short while.
there was a Napa Valley server way before EA. It was Origin Systems that named the server. Also, it's still around, just has a low population.

When EA got a hold of UO from Origin, it all went down hill.
if i still lived in the bay I'd start a support group, and we could drink ale together snd talk about the old times.

Nope, they haven't merged any UO servers. We play on Atlantic shard, to answer the question asked above.
