The first M in MMO = massive or massively   Minecraft has a pretty low limit per server does it not?

Also. . is there any character progression to suggest it is an RPG?  Not that you need stats and skills or even levels.   I think Minecraft is great. . I just think maybe it is its own genre - which is a good thing.

Minecraft doesn't really contain a form of "advancement". In addition, each individual server has to be able to support 500 players to be listed here, which clearly is not the case. Those are both requirements for being listed here, which is probably why you don't see it.

hrmm, I suppose. As far as the serve thing goes thow, its a Indie game. I'm not sure he could afford big enough servers, and I guess Notch just moved it to some sort of "cloud" from amazon. Another way of thinking of mine is that, there are a couple games on here that I don't think should be. Such as League of Legends. I love it thow, not so sure it should be here, or at least a seperate section of games that are -mostly MMO

Gear advancement is a form of advancement. The servers can handle up to 256 simultaneous players.

So maybe not a MMORPG right now, but if they added the tech to link servers with inter-server portals then it might count someday.

Even Champions Online servers will cap the number of users in an instance to less than 200 players. The significant difference being that you can travel between instances on a single CO server.

Massive is generally more than 256, basically server architecture that goes beyond the 16,32,64, 128, 256 thing and opens it up to thousands.

I'd like to see a Mine craft grafted on to a DAoC.

Tunnel into someone's frontier and attack them! That would be fun.

Minecraft isn't an MMO, it's as much as one as Mount and Blade is... no these games are just server's like CS. Just because Millions play them, doesn't make them an MMO... hell even Guild Wars, Diablo, STO, CO, APB or JO aren't MMOs.

Go play crimelife 2......Its not even multiplayer! If that is on here so should minecraft.

This. And while hes at it stop "making up" for minecraft's faults by calling it an Indie game. Sure it started as one but I'd like to think the fact that Notch is getting thousands per minute would lead him to do whatever he wants with the game itself.

Game lobbys also are applied to the 500+ count. So if the game has a lobby, aka Battle.net that can hold more then 500+ people, or if the game has a central area that consists of more than 500 people then it's on here and considered a MMO.

I wasn't saying bad that its an Indie game, I was just using it for the reason as to why it doesn't have server's that can handle millions yet

Right now it's only classified as a MO not an MMO, but i hear he is working toward it being one eventualy.

    No.

It's massive and it does have multiplayer, but the amount of concurrent users is what stops it from being a traditional MMO.

  • QuirhidQuirhid Member UncommonPosts: 6,230

First and foremost prequisite for a MMORPG to me would be; can you play offline?

If the answer is "yes", it is definetely not a MMORPG. If the answer is "no", you can move on to other questions.

You can't play DDO or GW offline but you can with for example Neverwinter Nights, Diablo or Hellgate London.

Sorry we dont need very obvious psychology attracting, market targeting applications that dont even bother trying to be called a game

  • ENTR0PYENTR0PY Member UncommonPosts: 62

It's not an MMO and it's a terribly boring game anyway, what the hell would you do with other players together? lol
