Rift: Devs Want You to Bring Down the House

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Rift Beta Event #6 is set to launch at 10:00 PST today and developers are furiously releasing beta keys. The goal, at least from 12pm-2pm on Saturday, February 5th is to Bring Down the House. Devs want players to log in and try to crash the servers. Players staying in-game for the entire event will have the chance to win prizes including a Nvidia GTX 460 video card.

We’ve had heaps of players in the RIFT beta, and we’re really proud of how the shards are holding up. We think they can handle pretty much whatever we throw at them... so let’s throw more stuff! We’re hosting a special “Bring Down the House” event this Saturday to see just how much they can handle. The proverbial gauntlet has been thrown down and to make it worth your while, we’ll be giving away 100 In-Game Prize Packs, and an Nvidia GTX 460 video card. All you have to do is play for the duration of the event.

Bring it. We dare you. Because seriously, the riftspawn were saying some pretty rude things about all your moms.

in my experience on mmo along the years as a beta tester RIFT is not a game worth to be paid 2 play, as theres games with better graphics gameplay etc for free i just took me 10 lvls to realize that this game as f2p would be a hit not as p2p. Of course is my opinion different ppl got different tastes and many out there just go for OH I GOT IT FIRST, instead of exploring the game, the animation isnt that great as i saw on a previous post, this game is fun to play but not the greatest either also i noticed the combat style is not optimal and again AION kills this game on graphics even C9 upcoming game is gonna be free2play and graphics animations gameplay and combat style is way better.

    my 2 cents!

There isn't any F2P out that has any sort of depth and polish like Rift. Aion's graphics don't make up for how bad of a game it is. Gameplay is personal preference, if you didn't make it past level 15 then your not really the one to judge, the gameplay gets better as you get more abilities.

Again this game isnt worth my time as a P2P game and trust me the first 10 lvls on a MMO are critical to define wether a player wanna continue or not, and i just used AION as example not as a fanboy since im more a tester myself then a WOW like fanboy and yes my experience and 10lvls on that game is more than enough for me to Judge,  mark my words because this game will lose popularity as all other games of the moment i had witnessed, wait for TERA or C9 and see what a next gen game is

So far I have to say Trion is showing other Developers how to release a game.

  • elockeelocke Member UncommonPosts: 4,335

I'm quite impressed myself.  The game feels more optimized today.  My camera turns faster, I'm not getting any hitching.  FPS is nice and steady.  Keep up the good work Trion, you have a new fan.

    {Mod Edit}

Anyway, on topic, I'm looking forward to this. The most fun I had in the last Beta event was running from rift to rift. I would expect that if they are really going to try and "bring down the house" that there will crazy amounts of rifts. :)

Hell, regardless of how good the game is, Rift's devs sure know how to work a crowd...

Rubbish .I don't think you can really tell what any game has to offer in the first ten levels . Now if you'd had said level 20 then year maybe . At level 10 in RIFT you've seen almost nothing of what it has to offer . Another 10 level and you get to see the more interesting content like the first instances or warfront . It you'd got that far you would have seen why its worth a sub . I first played WoW in the june 2005 and did'nt really enjoy it much untill I saw the deadmines . That was way past level 10  .

I agree with Xtoor hell I'd even go as far to say RoM as a F2P offers about the same. Besides the lack of pvp. Has anyone see armor set bonus, weapon set, item set bonus in rift yet I don't recall seeing such a common staple in mmo's in rift yet. Just as the warhammer rage was before launch, rift can do no evil but for the true gamer looking for a quality product can see.

Rift has some cool fetures, I like the options in the soul tree. And .....yeah thats about it for me I can scratch up off the top of my head. Oh and they seem to actually read bug reports unlike some games so thats nice too. Other than that, I predict a large drop after the free 30d-60d marker.

Noway is there any f2p game even close to RiFT's quality, your having a laugh. The problem with Aion is that the devs dont listen to anyone and that killed the game in my eyes although the graphics are pretty.

  • HaradeasHaradeas Member UncommonPosts: 252

Some people here sadly dont know any better. Rift is a P2P mmorpg WORTH it. There hasnt been any in a long time ^^ ( aion pretty much failed, AoC, etc )

So just trying to compare this game to another F2P mmorpg is just prove of your ignorence and lack of knowledge of other mmorpgs. ( beta tested and played most F2P and P2P mmorpgs )

  • SoludeSolude Member UncommonPosts: 691

I challenge Rift haters to name just 1 other MMO that you unlock the only skills you get by buying into a tree... any MMO where MOBs are NOT on a set  back and forth trip to no where...  any MMO where an NPC faction can capture cities and hold them.  Just one.  Also the fluff stuff like only needing 4 toons to be able to play ANY class combo at ANY time.

Aion failed because combat is mechanical and the landscape graphics don't mesh with the toons.

  • shassellshassell Member UncommonPosts: 105

Err' Aion has not failed at all Solude. It has a very healthy population. A few gimmicks don't make a game. Most members using this site would like balanced information and reviews, not silly childish challenges. Then they can make their own mind up. A member named Teala has previewed Rift very well; and after playing Beta 6 for awhile I think its the most accurate preview I've read so far.

Not propably the best thread to start this again. There's plenty of "these" threads where you can voice your opinion or make your own. This one is about a beta event.

Everyboyd has their own opinion.  RIFT is no wose than WoW.  It's probably just a tad better.  TRION has done exactly what BLIZZARD did.  It took what people liked from other games, polished them and built a stable and polished environment.

Comparing RIFT to a F2P or saying it's not even worth F2P invalidates ANYTHING you have to say.  It makes you look like a baseless hater that never actually got into the beta.

Rift may not be a complex or difficult game.  It might be the result of Mythic raping Blizzard, but it's a solid and it's deinitely better than LOTRO, AION, AoC and Warhammer.

Not gonna beta test a game I have to pay a subscription to afterwards.

    Godspeed my fellow gamer

  • eye_meye_m Member UncommonPosts: 3,317

I might log in, but thats the most I could offer. I really don't feel any incentive to help beta a game I would never buy.

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.

I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.

No Teala went in not wanting to have fun and got just that.  I read her blog, its nit picky and focused on very specific bugs while completely missing the meat.

And Aion is healthy yes but by NC Soft goals, it failed.  I betaed it, I bought it, I played it and the reasons listed are the two meat reasons I don't play any more.  It offered a disconnected experience and that falls under do or die, unlike squirrel animations or tearing =P  Guessing Teala also doesn't play any SOE titles or Turbine or NC or Bliz cause they all have tearing on some races and gear combinations.

Anyway, I like Rift, I think its skill trees and overall button mashing combat needs some tuning but the concept is sound.  Its the execution at launch, not beta that'll make or break Rift.  Still very impressive that they have a larger beta population than most, WoW excluded, live MMOs.  It offers a very connected experience and in an alive world, and frankly its the first time since EQ that the world is something that can kill you if you blink.

That said, I'll probably poke my head into Velious before heading to Rift but thats more about not liking the mass rush that is launch day.
