WoW = Short attn span version of EQ.

I have played this game since it's release (well not right now, at this time there are not any mmorpg's that I deem worth playing). Anyway, just to say if you wanted a breakdown of what WoW is like.. it's like Everquest except fast fowarded with some minor refinements and way better sense of humor. The drawback to that is you get tired of it quicker, the plus is it's way easier to learn and play.

I don't miss the general chat though.. WoW seems to have attracted the attention of the younger demographic - for me this is sad because I'm 31 and don't have  a huge tolerance for ignorance - the youngins in WoW are about as ignorant as they come. Everytime I hoped a flight and it had to passthrough the crossroads.. I knew I was gonna get upset by some non sense that some moron spouts out in general... YES! Those days are behind me now.

Eagerly awaiting Auto Assault....

After Playing EQ for 5 + years , DAoC  for a few months and WoW for 5 months, I agree. WoW is definitely aimed towards a younger more immature audience.  It does have a lot of pluses but the average game player appeared very immature, Zerg mentality,  the majority of the peeps I grouped with were loot whores. I cant imagine any guild as of yet capable of a 70+ peep raid on anything except tarren mill.

So let me get this straight, a 31 yr old is affected that adversely by what a child calls him? ::::12::

Most pvp games will attract some population of the '1337' kiddies. If you're not prepared to take some smack, I'd suggest a different type of game.

EQ2 may have a longer grind or leveling system, but it's also more repititive. I got bored with the game after 2 months playing it. I may go back after I see what the new pvp system is like.

WoW = an MMORPG for people who want to get far in a game but have limited time to play image

I used to be what they call a "grognard", a player of those military simulation/boardgames by Avalon Hill or SPI of yesteryear.  I have played the monster WW2 games with 50 page rulebooks, where you spend more time thinking about production than strategy.  And I have played MMORPG's which had more complexity and challenge than some of the games out now.

The point of all of this, is that simplicity in a game is a GOOD THING, and not necessarily a carrot thrown to the immature or ADD crowd.  It's nice to sit down to a game with an intuitive interface, simply game mechanics that need no tutorial or rulebook, and to just have fun.

Challenge can be present in two departments:  gameplay (good) or game mechanics (bad).  I prefer to tackle the challenges of gameplay and I find WOW to be an excellent game in that regard.

Excellent post Billius! ::::20:: I myself am a older gamer(32) and a seasoned one at that(UO,DAoC,SWG,EVE,E&B,AC,AC2 and FWO). I use to spend hours and hours just at the character creation screen in those old MMOs. More so reading the manuals. And just to start getting into a game and finding the grind(a cheap ploy to keep paying customers paying while hiding the fact any real content was to be found at the top end) too boring and unbearable to even make it to the high end content. So with most of these games I stopped well before the level cap and purchased a new MMO.

But with WoW that one nagging part of the equation(grinding) was reduced considerably. And to me I don't find this to make the game easy nor to dumb it down in anyway. For me it just opens a new door to explore other facets of the game that I would have looked over before(crafting/questing/faction/lore). This goes to serve as a motivator for me to accept/try any new ideas for future content they may introduce.

As far as the game being for immature players comment I beg to differ. WoW has opened the floodgates to a whole new community of players and with them the type of players that we find unbearable in any given MMO. It's just now there are MORE of them along with the massive numbers. Saying otherwise shows a true level of ignorance that to some here sounds like the same type of stereotypical nonsense you are feeding us about WoW's user-base community. Don't let your bias attitude cloud what may otherwise be considered a partly intelligent post.
