I am very happy to see a BSG MMO in the works and soon available.
I am Not happy that it will be using Cloud tech.

I shall be keeping an eye on this with much interest and i wish them luck with the game
50% of the United States does NOT have the quality of Internet to use Cloud Applications, so many that would play this new MMO will not play. I seriously wish we Americans could get our Government to upgrade the Internet infrastructure, but I doubt that will happen any time soon. At least some people will be able to play BSGO.
Government created infrastructure? No thanks. They would just make it terrible and way overpriced.
Private industry is what should market the better internet connection. Competition is what breeds quality. When you can choose one company over another, those companies produce more to compete. Thus you get better product choices.
I don't want to pay the crazy bandwidth prices Australia pays that is for certain.
Government intervention is what is driving this and other nations into the ground. Last thing we need is MORE of that.
P.S. I'm in New York and my internet is pretty damn sweet. I run at about 35mbps (yes, NOT 3.5) at a 40-50 latency and I only pay about $45 a month. Runs this game with no issues along with doing a few other things in other windows including watching multiple streaming videos.
well it just so happens i have beta access to bsg online. and its for the best part a browser game. not a true mmo. although it certainly plays like one.
as far as ship based mmo goes. bsg does pretty well, you dont actually have to do much aiming as most of it is auto, so long as your ship is pointing in the genral direction of your target you will shoot at said target and pretty much hit it all the time untill its destroyed.
all in all the graphics are as can be expected, pretty basic, espeically when your not in your ship.
the galaxy is a series of instances which you can jump btween and engauge in numerous battle grounds. some pvp some just npc for leveling purposes. as you level you do unlock the ability to pilot diffrent ships. not just vipers and raptors. but other things like corvettes and such type craft.
for a browser mmo its one of the best out their. but bare in mind its not a traditional mmo so it falls very short.
i think theyt are accepting every one into closed beta at this momment. so go sign up and check it out!!
Is there an NDA in place? Because the things I can say about this game... But yea, as much as I enjoyed the BSG TV series remake, to those of you who are looking forward to this game, good luck! You'll need it.
i didint have to agree to an nda that i was aware of.

If you were really American, you'd want the private sector to upgrade the infrastructure.
I'm in the closed beta, I can't say much because of the NDA. However, the open beta starts on the 8th of February and I'd say it is definitely worth having a play (its free) even if its just to see how well the Unity plugin works.

you do realize 100% of americans use cloud applications? you seriously pulled that 50% out of your ass.
having the private sector build stuff isn't that great if you remember how halliburton and kbr rampaged throughout american society.
Another wasted effort would've made more since to put the timeline of this game into the period of the First Cyclon War on the 12 Colonies at least there would've been planets to explore and more ships and a Battlestar of your own. Makes more since to me than the period set for this game.
A bit Jaded on franchise video games based on pop culture. They always seem to find a way to screw it up. It's as much a problem with games as the selling tools.
Online games need a new mantra before any more franchises waste thier name making yet another refurb of the same old mantra.
Nothing gets me more frustrated when marketing exec's say "play through the cloud". It's a fuckign server-client app. Not a fucking ball of water in the air.
I love the series, hate the idea of an mmorpg. Let's do a "what-if" scenario to see why. What-if there happens to be more than 50,000 subscriptions and most of those end up being human? Well, 1) there were only ~50,000 survivors. Of those survivors, a very limited amount were military. This game, simply put, throws the whole continuim out of whack.
Tried closed beta and I have to say that I was impressed, especially because it is a browser based game (in full screen mode you can't even tell that it is). It reminded me of one of my favorite "space shooters": Independence War 2 (haven't played the first one past demo).
I would be still playing CB if it wasn't for one major (known) bug that made me to stop and because of that the game lost it's tight hold of me, heh.
If you ever liked (any) space shooters, I think you'll like this game as well.
This is really good (for a browser game). Players are very social as well. Since they're using the Unity3D engine I would love to see them release this for the Ipod as well.

My response is addressed to you Evile, and also others that responded to my comments.
I live in Michigan where "private industry" thinks a 1 gigabyte gateway for 1500 internet customers is OK (the bottleneck on the weekends is worse than dialup ever was), where using any type of peer to peer networking is a violation of contract and grounds to have your internet shut off.... that's our private industry for you.... oh and there is NO other providers, no other ISPs... so from my own point of view a government run internet infrastructure would be preferable.
Somebody here said I pulled the 50% out of ass... I did because half of my neighbors that are 2 miles away can get cable internet with fair service or better while the rest of my neighbors and my own household are stuck using a halfassed radio WAN ISP because the Cables companies in the infinite wisdom decided we didn't matter. So yes I pulled it out from where it should have stayed.
Anything I want to do on the internet that involves peer to peer I have to stay away from... just THINK about how that would affect your internet experience and then tell me you wouldn't wonder if government couldn't do it better?
As far as I am concerned *private industry* and the financial elite can stick it where the sun don't shine. Unless you live in a large city or on the Coasts they don't give a damn about you.
Cheers to you mate, you were smart enough to live in a good part of the US. Some of us were stupid and live in backwards and sideways parts of the US. Enjoy your internet.
Oh yes there was one poster that questioned my heritage and citizenship.....
I am an American. I will leave that right there.

Looks like it will be alright for what its based on doesnt look too hardcore mmoish it more based on space combat if anything so if you go into it thinking dogfights etc etc in space it will be a great game if your into that.
as a dude who travels for work and gets 70% of his internet though a usb modem, the streaming model disappoints me. i'll have to try the open beta to see how it goes, but i prefer the huge download upfront.
I find all of this extremely comical, because I've been watching all the seasons of Battlestar Galactica and am almost done with Season 4 (The show came on when I was like 12, I'm 20 now lol), and I was telling myself that it would be freaking cool if they came out with an MMO based on it.....but I don't want this browser-based, F2P, ship-based crap.

Hopefully it doesn't go the way of STO or SGW. I suspect it will though.

I got bored with it very very quickly, it's a shallow browser game that looks like it was made at least 10 years ago.

We are going to have to act, if we want to live in a different world.
And you think those plugins don't require memory and cpu recourses?

have a blessed thread.
You people just don't get it, content takes years to develop, this game obviously has little, you will be bored within a month.
Anyone who thinks this is the next big thing in gaming, I will just completely disagree with.
