LF a MMORPG to put me out of my misery

KeirasKeiras Member Posts: 4

Hi,

I'm an experienced MMORPGer but recently I find most MMORPGS dull and stupid.

I've played WoW for a year and a couple of months, willing to quit now for a better game.

I don't care if it's P2P.

Can anyone put me out of my misery in my endless search for the perfect MMORPG for me?

A must have in my perfect MMORPG (By priority).

1. Smooth animations (Like WoW has).

2. 3D! No 2d or 2.5d or 1d's.

3. Uniqueness - No mindless quests of grinding.

4. Large player base. No 3 people online please!

5. Roleplay. Perferably Hardcore.

6. Intensive PvP.

It would be nice :

1. Asian-like game. And by Asian I mean the story..houses..weapons and models. (Not grinding Asian games with cute faces).

2. Medieval (No fantasy at all).

3. Fantasy

4. Historical (Any other time)

And if there is no game like this... What is the closest one? And if none are close...What the hell am I supposed to do because I'm bored as !@#c

If you have a pointless coment, please, don't. Because I honestly don't care what is your opinion about irrelevant topics.

Your shit out of luck, there isnt anything that covers all of that..

Hardcore easy, its either eve online or darkfall..

I play both, because its the only mmo's where I can get the same adrenalin rush in two diff styles of play area, sci fi and fantasy..

Neither is for the easily annoyed..

.... good luck with your search ....

In my experience, there is no MMO that has all the things you're looking for together in one package, I'm afraid.

Vanguard has a huge chunk of what you want (including even some fantastic Asian theming on one of the continents), but no PvP and almost zero population.

City of Heroes/Villains has a fair chunk of what you want (esp. active hardcore rp) but no open-world PvP as such (although the PvP gameplay is fun in and of itself) and it's superheroes, plus it's heavily instanced.

EVE has a huge chunk of what you want (even, oddly enough, some Asian theming!) but it's s-f.

Darkfall has a huge chunk of what you want but no rp (at least I couldn't find any) and no Asian theming.

AoC has a fair chunk of what you want but it's heavily instanced and lacks Asian theming.

Actually thinking about it, AoC is probably the closest to your desiderata on the whole (especially if animations are really important to you), it's just that if you want a really open-world feel, the game doesn't have that.  Plus it lacks Asian theming (the closest it has to Asian is sort of semi-Egyptian and/or Middle Eastern).

But the PvP/PvP-RP servers are very active, the game has a very grittty and un-cute feel overall, looks fantastic and unique, and has (or had the last time I played a year or so ago) a decent population with some very active hardcore rp guilds - might be worth a try.

    Oh the cruel truth.

    Thanks anyway.

AoC or I slit my wrist. (Tested it 4 - 6 hours ago, had 4k latency :( )

Be careful what server you pick in AoC bro....

If you pick a PvP server or even a RP/PvP server you will hate it.

For example, the Tyranny server was known as the a$$hat server, and for a long time Cimmeria server was a fantastic RP server even though it had PvP. Unfortunately, the a$$hats from Tyranny transferred over to Cimmeria and harrassed the crap out of the RP's. Entire RP guilds left AoC.

The the expansion was the final nail in the coffin...want to bang rocks in Bori?

The only way for AoC to be fun is to take your time and enjoy the story on your trip to level 80 and end game pn a PvE server.

DO NOT play MINIGAMES on any server as they are owned by pre-mades who also have players doing randoms in order to sabotage them by just standing there doing nothing.

To repeat...if you play AoC only play on a PvE server, take your time and enjoy the story, AVOID minigames, and forget about raids unless you are in a large and good guild.

Unfortunately, most of the people still playing already have their RAID gear, so it might be hard to find players to raid with.

AoC was one of those games that you had to get in early or be left behind.

Anything else than AoC? I mean..seriously..is it either WoW or AoC for me?!

Aion has everything you've listed except for hardcore RP. It has plenty of RP, but it's more or less entirely within legions, so you won't see much random RP except in one or two spots in the main cities.

Other than that, it covers everything else.

Edit: Or maybe not on one. What do you mean by 'mindless quests of grinding?'

Your not going to find a game out there that nails all of the criteria, unfortunately.  I can suggest EQ2 if you aren't on the "SOE is the devil" bandwagon because it's the cool thing to do on the forums.  You'll find RP on Antonia Bayle server which is also the largest populated server.  There is some PvP (although I wouldn't deem it epic, or even good imo), the animations are smooth, and it's 3d.  Want small quests or large epic / heritage quests, you'll find them but in the end quests are quests, which have all been done before.

Did you play the original EQ and enjoy it?  IF so, maybe a trip back down memory lane would work on the new Fippy Darkpaw server.  Hell, that's what I'm doing :)

I don't think there is a trial for Aion. How am I supposed to check it out before buying it?

I tried EQ2 for a couple of days, it's nice and all but way too confusing with their expansions and account membersip which makes the game look like 'lots of money' to play well or else be restricted.

By mindless quests I mean.. you know.. go kill 13 bears because I told you so... And then 30 birds...and 27 whales...

    I want......I want.......I want.

MMO's are not made for one person.  You get what you get and you take it or leave it.

“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”

     lol

I had actually suggested this in my post when I was writing it but after reading his line about grind I decided it may not be for him.

I can't wait for the server to fire up on the fifteenth =)  The only problem I'm having now is that my fiance has dragged me back into EQ2 and we both dished out the 60 bucks for the CE of Velious that releases in the end of Feb.  Gonna be a good month for my mmo gaming, FINALLY!

I wasn't referring to EQ2X, the f2p crap, but the subscription based EQ2.  You pay fifteen bucks a month, just like most other subscription based games, pay for the latest expansion (which includes ALL previous expansions and base game, not like WoW where you have to buy every single damn box) and your all set.  You're looking at the cost of the Sentinal's Fate box and free thirty days plus all the content available.  At least until the end of the month when they release the newest xpac.

I'd go with Aika. Tried so many f2ps mmos and always get back to Aika lol.

    Waiting for Tera.
