Next AoC Expack?

DaSpackDaSpack Member UncommonPosts: 589

Hoi AoCers!

It's been a while since I've heard anything on development plans for AoC. I therfore have decided that it's due time to stir the pot again. Who knows maybe a FunCom rep will show up with some extra info?

I know all about the Guardian revamp and the New Major PvP Patch coming out next month, but am not really looking so much for info about that. The official forums have enough posts about that. What I am looking for are rumors about bigger additions like Expacks. Anyone have something on that? Also, how long in advance of an expack launch would thay have to actually start developing the thing. Could it be something they are working on right now. If so, I urge cloaked funcom workers on these forums to leak some secrets on that? Please ? :D

Hit me, I'm all ears.

EXPANSION? They are just a handful of people sustaining the game to life...how on earth will they develop new content when they hardly can correct bugs?

When the majority of game designers/developers return from Secret World , then perhaps they can be assigned to create new AOC content. I personally estimate this happening in 18 months and over.

Look buddy I think you seriously underestimate how long time it takes to actually make new content. If you say there will be coming new expack 18 months from now, there are for sure someone working on the next expack now. And, it would be nice to hear what they have going in that case.

For the comment on sustaining game to live? I am not too sure about that, they are this month putting out a PvP addition to the game og significant size with a full revamp of Guardian class. I don't know, but it seems like they sustain the game pretty well considdering that God Slayer came out just 5-6 months back. Another thing there are over 300 developers in FC according to AA. 140 of them are on TSW. What do you think the other guys might be tinkering with... I think it is likely that they would be doing something on expack now and why not just give us some hints then? Agree?

    2010-

1.) AoC is currently in the middle of upgrading the game engine which should be going to the test server soon.

2.) AoC recently updated their Dev tools for creating new content and opened an office for AoC in Montreal, Canada.

3.) 12 man pvp is on the test server.

No word on a new EXP. NO word on future content.

    1 and 2)

Where already developed and added a while ago for The Secrete World per some financial report, as both games use the same game engine and now they are just porting it.  I would imagine most of the core staff will be working on TSW after AoC's expansion.  If TSW does resonably well maybe they can kick in some money for further development but it doesn't look like many at all are playing this anymore, which means much less money to do anything. Call me negative or whatever but the numbers today are way lower than I would have ever predicted.

    3) IDk about 12 man pvp but since the game is 2 1/2 years old with no new pvp mini maps and or expansion pvp, then shrines of bori, and now 12 man, it seems as if only 1 part-time employee is working on PvP development a couple hours per week, but least he is employed.

Funcom has reviewed all of its assets relevant for
impairment testing. This process has led to
recognition of an impairment loss of around
3,1 MUSD for Age of Conan due to a decrease in
numbers of subscribers for the game. Funcom Q4 10 report.

At this point, I think the engine upgrade and integreation will be finished by march of 2011.  That is the main area of focus right now.  After that, my guess is on House of Crom and more Tier 4 raiding to be the next major areas.  Next weeks Community Update is supposed to have some kind of information in the content department.

As far as an expansion is concerned, I doubt that one is being worked on at the moment.  I think the main focus is on The Secret World right now, and that Conan  will get some new content in the meantime, but nothing the size of an expansion.

Not gonna happen with Rift set to release soon. AOC was good fun for me for quite a while but alas it's end is near.

  • nihcenihce Member Posts: 539

Sil said there is 30+ devs working on the title right now. And tis is not including devs that work on TSW which could, given games share the same engine, benefit AoC as well

I liked the combat in this game but the world got empty was when I left. I have not returned for the expansion so no idea how the population is in the game.

RIFT is no way near the quality of AoC. I think RIFT will die quick. IMHO AoC is so much more unique than RIFT.

Funcom have a bunch of new jobs up in their Montreal office this week. Quite a few for Age of Conan  http://www.funcom.com/jobs/montreal

Development is not dead, there are plenty of people working on the game and the titles of the positions hints at more to come.

Cool news, been seeing more new players online lately. I would sure like to see another expansion pack to boost up the playerbase some more.

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.

Meh, seems AoC is now going for F2P by creating new things you can spend your money on in addition to your sub.

Obviously, if you take even a short glance at their forums, though, it seems the game has lost most of long term supporters it ever had.

However now with the new community update they're claming they are giving extra attention to forum posters, that they (even their GD) have said are a minority and not worth their time. Seeing how the community is responding to this is quite clear.. "you call us minority? Then you expect some feedback that obviously is just from the minority that is worthless to you"

After seeing all those additions to their €-store, it seems to me FC is getting ready for some F2P right here, because their playerbase is miserably low after all their lies and undelivered promises.

Have you seen that the engine upgrade is using FXAA?

FXAA is a new anti aliasing technique developed by NVIDIA which provides highly effective edge smoothing, based on image luminance variations. It is designed to be extremely compatible with deferred engines, by avoiding the issues traditional hardware MSAA presents with regards to retrieving sub-pixel depth buffer samples. In addition it has much lower video memory requirements, while still producing extremely high quality results and avoiding slight image blurring which is common to other image based anti aliasing solutions."

I'm a fan of AoC and that is evidenced by the fact that I just donated another $15 to Funcom for a last hurrah with AoC before Rift releases. That said, you are comparing a game that is dying a slow death to a game that is set to fall into the #2 spot in mmo market share behind WoW. I love AoC but Rift was more polished in beta #1 than AoC was at launch... or even by Godslayer.

Rift will go the way of Warhammer, this will not do a favor to AoC nor please the players but it offers not enough to have a lasting appeal.
Its only the Honeymoon effect - enjoy it as long its there ;)
