After reading some guys "I fail" post about not being able to invest time into a mmo due to real life stuff.
It got me thinking about the old days. Back when i was a younger less stressed out guy I could spend ten hours in front of the PC and it wouldnt bother me and noone would care (besides the GF before she dumpt my behind).
So i wanna ask, back if your younger days, or even currently... whatever. How long was your longest play session?
Also just for comparisons sake how long do your sessions last now on average lol?
I remember playing EQ for a day and a half (around 35 hours) without sleep, going on Mountain dew and without shuting my PC off even once.
ONly took one break for a Bio break.
And now with four kids, a wife, a pain in the ass needy brother and a ton of needy friends I average about an hour or two
How about you guys?

I think my longest ever in one session would be having to spend about 10 hors trying to ding 40 in WoW a few years ago. (glad I don't play that game anymore)
LIke you, I can rarely play for longer than a few hours, occasionally on a weekend evening I can get up to 4 hours.
The longest playtime session ever was 9 hours, at that point I physically felt ill and stopped playing and took my son out to a movie (my wife had been out of town on a trip).
I once stood in line waiting to buy BC and some folks claimed ot have played up to 36 straight hours.... amazing...

Camping for Jboots EQ1 think I managed to get mine in a fairly easy 18 hours. I know some that camped at least 10 hours longer than that. Of course all you did was sit in line in a tiny room and kill the guy when he spawned (every 40 mintes or so).
Yeah EQ1 was truly ground breaking /spitsonMcGrind
Longest for me in a MMO was 10-12 hours I think, I've done that in EQ, AC1, and DAOC. EQ it was a fear raid + corpse retrieval, AC1 it was having too much fun back when clans of anti vs pk had a huge war. DAOC it was during a relic raid attempt, which failed, so we end up taking & defending castles.
These days I play 6 hours on average each sesseion, often times less.

I think my longest stint was about 16 hours straight on SWG. I haven't really ever pulled the 24+ hour thing. I usually do a 16 hour stint, followe by 6 hours of sleep and then another 10-16 hour stint.
How long was it for the guy in Korea who died playing WoW? like 40+???
3 days straight in the early days of WoW, had already made a level 60 character, I needed a couple more 60s for crafting purposes.
I did a 24 hour (ish) stent back in DAoC, I believe it went from Noon till Noon before I crashed. I forget the reason behind it, probably nothing too important, just very engaged in that awesome game :P

My longest sessions was 22 hours before i stopped
My average sessions was around 16 hours after i graduated from school.
My average session now is around 3 hours.
It's dropped not so much because of time restraints (as i usually can always find time) but because of a lack of interests in certain games.

EQ1 camping for about 20 hours for a piece of the monk epic.
Average now probably 4 hours or so. Life gets in the way so lame..
years and years ago i was laid off from work for a couple weeks and one day i did a 26 hour straight group grind on EQOA to get my main to 50 so he could do his epic quest. i stayed in group and people rotated out off and on when they had enough lol back then average groups lasted average 6 hours. so when the day workers was goin to bed evening workers just logging in to fill in and so on. it wasn't planed honestly just worked out i was getting whispers for people needeing a group at exactly the right time as some one in group was saying they had to go soon.
anymore tho i'm lucky to log into any MMO and when i do its maybe a few hours.
I've done about 20+ in EQ and daoc. Haven't been playing much lately, but when I would go back to something, if I was really into it from not playing for a while, I've done 8-12 hours on a weekend.
When I go back to EQ on the 15th, I could see myself playing all day weekends, but probably low to moderate on the weekdays. Although even with full time work and even going out some, I could still put in 6 hours most nights and get a full night sleep. I'm pretty good at managing my time though, hehe.
add: I have had my EQ char on for about a week straight, but he was stationed in the bazaar selling, so I wasn't really there, hehe.
My longest was about 14 hours back when I played DAoC. The time was spent playing with multiple groups of people all over Midgard... I'll never forget it. I can recall doing a few more of these long sessions but usually I kept it to 10 hours or less back then.
Now... I don't really play mmos anymore. Mostly for the fact that none of the games out interest me much. If I do any kind of gaming it's usually once a month on a weekend somewhere with a bunch of friends and then I'm game free for the other 20-30 days... I've kind of found other things to fill my time with.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
Longest single run on a game would be about 36-ish hours in Panetside.
Started on a friday afternoon. Ended sunday night. No sleep in between, only breaks for bathroom and to grab snacks. Maintained the same group and platoon the entire time.
Almost took the entire planet that weekend as Vanu.
Never repeated that with any other game, and never really go the opportunity to do that again with Planetside. That was in it's first year of release.
Now I tend to dedicate six or so hours to a mmo if I'm to play it. Don't really bother if I can't carve out a solid block of time.
EDIT: Guess it was closer to 42 hours or so in retrospect...

my longest was about 16 hours while doing my EPIC for my beastlord in EQ. But like you with the wife, kids, etc my gaming has come down to about 3hours max a night 9pm - 12pm.
Did a 15 hour stint one day in eq, averaged about 5 back then. Did 7 in coh, averaged like 2-4. Did 14 hours straight at a friends house the first time I played MW2. Today 0 cuz I am MMOless.
I have a good rl friend who used to do 24+ hour EQ sessions all the time. I'll ask him what is thinks his longest session ever was.
Tyrust - EQ
Proximo - EQII
Proximo - Warhammer Online
Fogerty - Vanguard
Hard to remember, in DAOC some times it may have been 10 to 12 hours on some weekends.
Once in EQ2 it was a single occasion for around 16 hours.
Normaly its not more than 2 hours.

57 hours strait once. had to get the world first clear. game was Runes of Magic. and if you were thinking it, no, drugs were not involved. just a crap load of energy drinks. we got the clear and i passed out on the desk.
36 hours Everquest. Delevelled a few times and had several corpses littering Fear and I was in danger of losing everything. I was so scared of that I stayed till I got most of my stuff not all mind you. Worst experience ever.
There was a time when I worked and didn't have gf and SWG just launched....I played mon.-thurs. 5pm-Midnight Fri 5pm-2-3am sleep 5-6 hours Sat. 8-9am to 2-3 am. Then do the same on sun. til midnight....did that for about 8 mons. So my longest was prolly on a sat. around 18+ hours. or so, but I did that every sat.
Now...maybe 9-10pm to midnight-1 about 2-3 hours almost everynight. Once the wife and kids are sleeping
Yikes....gratz...I guess? that just seems scary lol
I honestly don't know how you did that, your neurotransmitters musta been shot!
lol. i was sick for a couple days afterwards. didn't really play for about a week. loggin in, did my dailies and logged off. was just burnt. what's crazy about it, is my wife also plays. she didn't do the whole sesion but she was there for a lot of it. my family was giving me crap for it, and my wife was defending me. telling them that they don't know what kind of dedication goes into getting a clear like that. she's a good chick to have around.
Early DAoC days i could RvR for 12+ hours straight , living on cigarettes and coffee.
longest day must have been 20+ hours that was level 48>50 and Epic armor quest, i just HAD to get it.
crazy stuff back in the day, and funny thing was this was in 2002 i think and there actually were ppl worse then me..
20 hours once, in WoW, we were running maradon ( sp? ) over and over and over again
could bearly speak when it was over
average now is an hour or so during the week and usually 3-4 on weekends I am an early riser so get most my gaming in before the family wakes
