Well... WAR had sever glitches, bugs, etc.  But it STILL did very well at launch.

Wanna bet dollars to donuts that Rift doesn't launch with as many players as WAR launched with?  It means nothing, ultimately.

Disclaimer: I didn't read through all of the previous posts. If it repeat something someone else wrote, it is unintentional.

It hasn't been a disappointment for me. If you were expecting a pure PVP game, then I can see why it was for you. I've really enjoyed the PVE thus far and haven't had time to try out much of the PVP though I plan to in the next phase. I'm not trying to flame you in any way OP, but I do have a response to one of the things in your post:

"3) "Innovations" like Rifts - So basically they have "dynamic" PQ's that always spawn in the same places that basically amount to a zerg-fest of dozens of characters blindly mashing buttons.  You succeed if you have the numbers; you get killed if you don't.  Period.  It's a numbers game and it gets boring, fast.  For those of you who are having fun with the dynamic rift system, more power to ya.  I just didn't see it. "

It seems clear to me that you must have only participated in the rifts in the starter area as that is where the rifts work as you described. Though the locations of the rifts are predetermined, they do not always spawn in the same area. In the starter area there are only 3 or 4 spots where they can spawn, so you tend to see them in those same spots over and over again. As you move on, you'll find that there are a very large number of places a rift can form and it's pretty random as to which one(s) will be next. At that point, I found that the rifts work together much better creating essentially one large PQ as opposed to WARs who were limited to just one place. The large invasions are especially interesting. The individual Rifts may be easy to overcome, but the large invasions where a large number of rifts open at once and deposit large amounts of enemy units all bent on attacking various locations can be challenging to overcome if you don't have players defending key locations while others push forward to close rifts. It certainly isn't for everyone, but the PQ's really are much more dynamic than what we have seen previously.

    1) I'll fully admit that a lot of my disappointment came from thinking the game was "like a more polished Warhammer Online" which is what my guildmates were trying to sell the game as... until most of them left around the same time I did. ;)

Meaning, it's simply that the PvP isn't there, for me.

    2) Dynamic Rifts - They seem like more of an annoyance... I'm just wondering how long these "dynamic rifts" will keep peoples' attention.  Perhaps they are enough for some gamers but I find myself really scratching my head wondering how people can be kept busy - even in a PvE sense - based on these rifts.

And thank you for refraining from personal attacks, calling my wife ugly or saying my dog has the mange while still managing to write up something that adds to the thread. ;)  I appreciate it.

    You're welcome :)

The rifts for me are fun because of the atmosphere they create. It may not be like this for everyone, but I certainly feel like my character is in the middle of a war. In most games, the open world PVE is very static. The wolves are in their spot. The bandits have their huts across the way. And they all stay there waiting for a player to come and engage them. In Rift, groups of enemies are constantly spawning in new places and moving around the map. So the PVE environment always changes in various ways. What it reminds me of is the special event they would occasionally do in EQ where an army of high level skeletons would invade some of the zones where players frequented. They would come out at night and kill pretty much anyone that ran near them. Visibility was low at night in that game, so it was pretty easy to not see them before you were dead. Bands of players would join up together to clear them out so people could travel safely through the zone. As silly as it may seem to some and as annoying as it may have been to others, it was probably my favorite experience in all of EQ. Rift's system recreates that for me, so I really enjoy it. In many ways I believe it really just comes down to a player's perspective. Some people will love this sort of thing, some will tolerate it and others will hate it. In any case, this is really only my perspective, but I hope it gives you a better understanding of why some people enjoy it.

That goes for every single MMO. Some people gets work up about a game while others just finds it boring. I found Wow boring and Guildwars fun, a good friend found the other way around, our taste just differs and there is nothing wrong with that.

There never been a MMO for all people, that is the reason while most computer players prefer FPS games and even with MMOs we can't agree. But that is fine, we don't like the same music either.

Try out TERA, GW2, TOR and TSW when they release, hopefully you like one of them better.

I thought Rift were pretty OK, nothing truly exiting but I could see myself play it if I have nothing better to do, maybe I will this autumn if not GW2 is released by then. Others truly love or hate it.

I stopped right there.  The vast majority of the market considers WAR utter crap as evident by their underwhelming, sad, pathetic subscribership, really.  Any comparison to WAR, when WAR is compared to as a reputable comparison, is a false comparison and as a result, holds no credibility.

    Sorry.

Um, I played WAR and hated it.  But WAR does PvP better than Rift.

    Sorry, reality is a bitch.
