I just hope they offer a free trial when they go live. If the game is what i'm looking for , I'd gladly sub. And I'm not asking for perfection, just a real sense that they are going to be able to eventually live up to their potential.
hey guys, you guys really made me interested for this game, as i am kinda bored and sick of current triple AAA mmo, seems like the same nowdays. i want to try something different. So like with sandbox mmo theres no endgame content right? i mean you build say a fortress then what happens? is there progression? is the game out yet or out on march? so if u buy the game now you get into beta right? do you need to be in tribe to have fun or this game can solo? that would be boring if you solo in a game like this. im from australia so i dont think many oceanic players would play this, so anyone around my time playing this?
Hi ikc. I too am an aussie and I just bought the game yesterday. I'm in the same boat as you and want to try something completely different.
So far I have only played the game for about 2 hours. Have only learnt the very basics of the game. At the moment I really like what I'm seeing. You are the one who decides your progression in this game. From the very beginning. There are no instruction what so ever. All you do is create your character and select your starting zone. From there the rest is up to you. I keep hearing that to get real enjoyment out of the game, joining a tribe is essential. Of course soloing is possible, everything will just take a hell of a lot longer.
The way I see it, it was only $40, get the next two months free, it's already been an exciting change and so far, so good. Too many times have I spent up to $100 on popular "mainstream" games only to be letdown and disatissfied after about an hours worth of gametime never to play them again.
I'm still in the process of planning my real character at launch. On launch I'll give you my character details and hope to see you all in game.

thanks for answering those questions guys
well on soloing u can solo u dont have to be in a tribe but it helps. as on the skills u have to learn a skill u don tknow from a book if i remember rigth so u can only get the book from another player. all items everything is player made.when u mean progression u have to define it as there diffent types of progression. and on another note no town will look alike since they player made. right now u preorder to get into the beta. on the 14th is suppose to be the last wipe.
u have to remember this a indi company so they focusing more on quality than quantiy. for example twice ive been just in game screwing around and wind up talking with the developers.
to tell u the truth if u liked eve u should like xyson. but if u disliked eve its probaly just 50/50 chance u will like xyson.

I will try to answer to the best of my knowledge. I have only been actually playing a few days but I have been following it for a little while now.
Endgame content will be created by the players much like Eve Online. There are currently no instanced raids, magical beasts, or anything like that. Currently during the Prelude period, you can make a solo tribe by yourself and are free to build whatever you want. During prelude, tribal lands will be safe zones where you can't be killed. They have a boundary, so you must place your tribe totem far enough away from someone elses tribe. Your character does progress. There is a "level bar" but no specific levels. In the character creation process you get to choose where you want to allocate your stats (strength, dexterity, spirit, intelligence etc). As you level (and from what I can tell, every little thing you do gives some "xp") you get more points to spend on your skills. It's pretty invovled but if you want more detail go to the Xsyon forums, the are able to be read by anyone.
The game is still in beta. The game will launch March 1st, but there is a headstart on Feb 14th, so beta will be ending feb 14th. So far I have been doing ok with my solo tribe and there are definitely options for the solo player. At some point though, no matter what, you may need to rely on other players for tools, crafted items, protection etc. There are definite advantages to being in a tribe, but both playstyles seem valid to me (solo vs tribe). So far I have seen tons of diverse people in this game, and pretty much there are people online from all over the world (much like Eve).
There is ton more info that I am still not clear on, but like I said check out their forums. The game is going to evolve with the world the devs have created. It really looks pretty damn special to me. So far the community is awesome and really helpful, so don't be shy
ah okaythanks for the reply, i have never played eve because got told you need to a lot of time in it. progression as in whats there do at end game? what is the point of building all those stuff? im just worry that the game ends up having only few tribes and they will dominate the server and low population tribe wont be able to do anything to counter them or get anything done.
This game is great honestly, but there is just one thing I need to know....Where the HELL do I get my damn flint from?!?!?!
Sorry, just couldn't resist! And yeah, I payed my $40 already too.
Hahaha...yeah that is a common question. The first thing I did when I entered the world was try to start a fire.....but I had no flint!
If anyone wants to know....you can get flint going to granite and limestone areas. Just run around the granite, and eventually Flint will pop up on the resource bar. Same goes for chalk I believe.

You can't compare this game to any other game. There is no end game, there are no levels(clasic ones at least).
Any goals you may have are the ones you set for yourself. World is changing constantly and it's never the same as it was a week ago.
For Prelude you start with empty world, no towns, no NPC's, no quests, no economy, no currency.
As a solo player you'll be go from town to town picking up quest or be a crafter/hunter/scavenger and sell your goods to tribes, you can become a bountyhunter and hunt evil players. Become a hero and hunt mutants, animals can mutate into powerful creatures, and when you kill one it's dead and will not spawn again.
The same goes for tribes, you can can play solo being in tribe, but you'll be somewhat involved in warfare. You can also help build town or if you're more abitious get involved in tribe leadership and help creating the world, we'll be setting laws, creating quests. It's up to us how the world will look like in the future, to keep balance and to prevent existance of "super" tribes.
Everything I read about this game makes me want to try it, and I'm edging closer to plonking the money down when I have some to spare.
My big worry, though, is the history of the game as the developer has himself set it out. Apparently, the game was programmed and set to go, but they found that the initial batch of programming was no good, and had to hire in a whole bunch of other programmers to repair it. That's why so many of the cool features listed aren't yet available - they're working through everything that they thought was ready, to ensure that it's actually WAI.
From what little I know about programming, this doesn't bode well in terms of bugs and the possiblity of expansions etc. It reminds me of the story of Vanguard - if a game starts as coding spaghetti, it seems that it will always remain that way, and a true total overhaul never seems to be possible without a humungous injection of money.
Still, fingers crossed - the concept sounds great, the devs (even lead dev) seem to muck in with the community, etc. I really wish it well.
Vixen, I think I am really close behind you! I really want to try this game out, just the $40 bucks is steap right now. I have been so close about 15 times from hitting that Pre-order button. I have heard non stop good things about this and read so much about it, I hope it's what everyone is making it out to be.
Money is tight for me too, but I really think it was worth it, I am not a fanboi either, but the limits are endless with this game. The other day I saw a guy playing postman running from tribe to tribe offering to deliver goods to other tribes for a small fee. I am downloading the newly implemented tribal quests update now, so I haven't got to try them yet, but thats just another open ended gameplay features. Being able to set your own quests and get xp for them is really exciting (however the xp gain will not be implemented till release, they are just testing the actual testing mechanic right now).
I took the plunge 2 days ago, made my first dude, had NO idea what I was doing, but slowly started exploring the game and gor around to weaving baskets (I would like to thank the guy who left all those bushels of grass by his camp, was a pleasure to use your hard work, hehe)
Then it started raining, and later some snow shows up on the ground. I log in today, and the ENTIRE place is covered in Snow. it's incredible!
I haven't really gotten into it all that much yet, mostly due to the grind of real life work, but I can't wait to dive in tonight and start learning the game.
I really think that this may be the sandbox i've been looking for, and this is coming form a guy who yelled vapor when they first announced it with all its features. Amazing game amazing!

guru that actualy happens alot they find a major bug when adding content. remember this is a indie developer.plus remember its clost to launch ofcouse they gonna hire more people.from my understanding the main reason he hired more people was so that he could have people doing dedicated thigns like art instead of doing mutiple things. btw in my 20+ hours of playing ive not encoutered any major bugs. only bug ive realy encountered was when chopping a tree i fell my way and for somereason i was stuck inside it otherwise ive had nto problems.

imo it should have killed you.....all joking aside....the more i read about this game the more i am interested in playing it.....it sounds like a TRUE sandbox has been born here.
Hmm being checking out there website, seems theres only 1 server and it will be in USA, now im living in the UK here, and ive played on USA servers before, (SWG bria server, always 300 ping),
I was really tempted to try it, Though 1 European server would of been nice, and mebbe one for the Aussies, cuz they never get servers
Yes, the server is located in Chicago I believe. There a lot of Europeans play though and I haven't heard many complaints about latency/high ping. The devs just put out a patch yesterday that really stabilized the servers. Before the patch my ping would fluctuate a lot, but since it has stayed around 70 constantly from west coast us.

I bought this on a whim because it offered what no other game appeared to - a true survival sandbox, with mechanics that basically work, in a compelling landscape and setting.
The chance to build a new society from scratch. What's not to like?
I have been burned too often to get excited, but after playing rift (been there, done that, many times) this game seems to be just what the genre needs.
Originally posted by bingo69 Lmao, nobody can answer my question about ifthere is any limit to skill/stat so you can max out or need to rely on other people?
Update Notes January 28 - Stat gain and decay system. This is a gradual gain and decay based on what skills you use. The system is designed to adjust your stats over time and has limits to prevent advantages from grinding.
Xsyon What was implemented is a stat gain and decay system (strength, agility, intelligence etc.). Your stats shift based on skills that you use (not necessarily skills that you gain skill in).Skill decay will work in a similar fashion, but it will take into account skills gained using skill points when you level up. If some skills are not gaining fast enough, these will be balanced out. Both stat and skill decay are minor and meant to create balance instead of having everyone trying to grind to max everything out.

I think there is a soft cap on skills and if you dont practise a skill for a long time it will decrease.
