General: RTSGuru.com: Throwing Open the Doors

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

RTSGuru.com is pleased to announce that it is now open to the general public. By way of welcome, Managing Editor Jon Wood has penned this "letter from the Editor."

The staff at Cyber Creations and MMORPG.com is happy to announce that we have officially launched our new website, RTSGuru.com.

RTSGuru will continue MMORPG’s tradition of providing the best possible coverage of games in its genre, in this case real time (and some other) strategy games. We will offer many of the same features that we currently do here: daily news, opinion features, reviews, developer content, a forum system that provides not only discussion of general RTS news, but also of each game individually so that fans and detractors alike can discuss them in an open environment.

Check out the full welcome message, here.

Good luck with the site, RTS games are not something I excel at.  Tried Sins of a Solar Empire and was horrible at it and that was using the easiest setting.  Most of the time the pirates did me in, I was lucky to get to fight the npc.

Same here.  I love RTS game settings and mechanics but I am HORRIBLE at them and I usually don't play them for very long because of that.  Does that make sense?  Too love a genre but never play it due to being a horrible player?

Best of luck with the site. I play quite a few RTS games but do not really go in for the competative side of things. That said I do enjoy watching high rank SC2 games so I may swing by the site to see whats going on from time to time.

Looks very cool. Would be nice if I could actually log in with my MMORPG.com account/password, but registering again isn't a big inconvenience.

You can - Both sites share information back and forth, including user base!

I play RTS games about as often as I play Racing games,  which is roughly once a year,  maybe twice depending on the releases,  though I do love strategy, its rare that an RTS will keep my attention for too long.  I'll be interested to hear all the up and coming RTS (and possibly just Strategy Based) news.

I'm not a fan with the design at all, it looks like an ad site the way it laid out and the basic elements of it. I see more ads then content... I was expecting videos, tons of reviews, there's nothing in there to even look at. I can get an RTS gamelist with google that's really all I see there. I would have worked on the content before opening the doors with nothing, people will come and see there is nothing there and then leave. That's my 2cents anyway, just seems lacking in every way.

[[ DEAD ]] - Funny - I deleted my account on the site using the cancel account button.  Forum user is separate and still exists with no way of deleting it. Delete it admins. Do it, this ends now.

Good luck, and I think the site will be helpful.

However, graphically, I still think the small logo is still a tad blurry.

You could always post in the forums, rate games, look up the information on the various games or read any of the articles already posted there. These sites have to grow organically. Artificially adding a bunch of content doesn't really make a lot of sense when we'll be adding content daily.

Are there enough RST games to make this site worthwhile?

Perhaps there are and I am just not paying attention....  Nevertheless Good Luck with the new site.

I used to visit this site a lot however in recent years it has become the home of negative forum posts, illogical opinions and tantrums so I visit less often.

    Played or Beta'd: UO / DAOC / Horizons / EQ2 / DDO / EVE / Archlord / PirateKingsOnline / Tabula Rasa / LOTRO / AOC / Champions / Darkfall / Mortal Online / DCUO / Rift / STO / SWTOR / TSW

Fair enough, just surprised none of the soon to be released RTS trailers are not in the videos, like shogun 2 for one.  Just seems more full, I guess I never liked clicking on link to see "no resources" or "coming soon".  I'm sure the site will eventually gain content but with the resources out there already for this kind of thing, besides a community forum what did you plan would set you guys apart?  See mmorpg you guys had something from the start it wasn't something covered, but this type of thing ign, gamespot etc all have exclusive resources for this type of genre.  All in all wish ya guys luck.

    My question is: why?

Unlike MMORPGs, where you can decide on which one to play by looking at reviews and mechanics, RTS have a much higher level of depth. It's called strategy. I know people who hate Starcraft 2 but love Starcraft, and vice versa. People love and hate Command and Conquer.

What will RTSGuru bring that people can't already find out by a quick Google search? Reviews for RTS cannot be anything but subjective, so that won't help determine whether an RTS is good for a person or not. Game forums will most likely be driven down to player reviews (also subjective) and complainers, like the MMORPG.com game forums (I'm not saying they're not legitimate, but honestly, when you present a ridiculously biased view and complain based on it, you're not making a good point...).

The reason I use MMORPG.com is because I can find basic mechanics, reviews (much less subjective for MMORPGs since the experience is usually the same or at least similar for everyone), mechanics, and problems; game sites seem to only focus on the mechanics that stand out (i.e. Vindictus's "revolutionary physics" that turned out to be just a copy of the default Source engine physics), so MMORPG.com is good for that. RTSs have nothing to hide. There's no mechanic of Command and Conquer that I have to search deeply for. I even know how Company of Heroes and Dawn of War play, because I watched a few videos on them.

Honestly, the only way to know if you like an RTS is to play it.
