Most fun role in this game? Tank, controller or healer?

MargulisMargulis Member CommonPosts: 1,614

So once you start doing real grouping in this game it seems there is no just being a dps character, you're either going to be a tank, controller, or healer.  So, for those who have tried multiple ones, which do you find to be the most fun?

The best imo currently (and the one most bitched about) would be the fire powerset. Very impressive dps but with inordinate personal heals, so the best of both worlds. It's not uncommon to have fire with better heals than a 'healer'. Having said that a so called healer is also pretty capable of dishing out the pain.

While I would like to say that a well balanced group would win either way atm I'm not sure thats so true. All things being equal, the surviveability of fire chars means they can dish out a hell of a lot of damage while keeping themselves up for a prolonged period

being a tank for most of the online games i play i would still stick to tanking. Maybe after reaching 30 ill try being a healer

I'm having lots of fun on my 15 gadget with rifle.  It may just be because rifle is so great once I got a handle on the combos, though.  There is great synergy with gadgets and ranged though.

I had leveling a fire with brawling though too.  That was more of a close range style.

I do more damage and CC better on my controller, but I lived through almost anything as my tank.

Healer seems for people that like healing and will be doing a lot of group content.

One thing that's great about healing in this game is you hit the heal button and it automatically heals the person that needs it the most.  No more having to worry about figuring out who's low and targetting them.  Same thing with my power-refreshing abilities as controller.

So far I've got a 30 Fire and a 30 Nature (just got him to 30 today).  I'm having fun on both of them.  My friend has a Sorc and a Gadgets and they both seem fun to play as well.  I think it depends on what you want to do.

Don't know about fun but for survival when you're soloing the best 3 are:

    1.  Fire

    2. Sorcery

    3. Ice

Based on my experience with all of the classes from a minimum level of 19 to 30.

I'd advise rolling a tank or healer till you get a feel for the mechanics. Controllers require more finesse to play effectively.

Well I myself have gotten a gadgets/bow to 30 and fire/2-hander to 30. It's true what they say about fire being amazing right now for everything. PVP,PVE, survivability, and dps. So with fire you can fill the roll of tank or dps and contirbute nicely to the group either way.  A good controller though can make or break a group in end game pve and, sometimes pvp. The controller becomes a much needed battery in pve content that can keep the healer healing, the dps dps'ing, and the tank tanking. Also, I'm not sure about mental, but gadgets has some great synergy with group mates that use fire or ice, thus enhancing everyone's dps as whole. This is mainly done with the top tier turret that sets freezing, burning, and elecrtical conditions on targets. These conditions magnify damage for fire and ice users. Also, that last turret will encase targets in an emp bubble, leading to more CC to be had.  Also, the primary roll of a troller in pvp, besides being a battery for the group, is to be anti-healer.  This is because some of the moves reduce healing abilities on the targets. So a controller can be decent in solo situations for both pvp and pve, but becomes a serious force multiplier if played right in a group setting. I dont know squat about healing in the game though, other than the self-healing that fire gets.

Sorc healers and fire tanks are fantastic. The only problem is that sometimes you'll run into one or two who have no idea how to tank or heal because they did not realize that their main role is NOT dps.

Actually, you can commit to being a DPS character.  All characters have the option of playing as DPS or a specialty role. The problem is that when you join a queue for group missions there are check boxes for both DPS and the specialty role, and many people will check both just to get into a group quicker, then don't fulfill their role obligation.  If you join a group as pure DPS, you shouldn't have a problem, other than having to wait longer to get into groups. All groups typically have one person running in the DPS role.

As for what role is the most fun...whatever you have found fun in other games, I guess. I have always preferred support roles, so healers and controllers are more fun for me.

I have a lvl 30 nature character, and a level 21 ice character. I'm enjoying playing both.

My absolute favorite is my nature character,  and yes, I play in damage mode, and play as backup support.   I can kill other players quickly no matter if they are a tank, healer, or controller,  and I have a couple heals slotted to support my group and myself which keeps me and my team up and going if things get too heavy.

Also, having the option to go full healer if I need to really helps out.

I've tried pretty much every class thus far,  controllers are fun in 1v1 scenarios or in an area where you have a full team thats coordinated well that can protect you so you can debuff the other teams healers.

Tanks are overall pretty fun to play,  fire tanks being easier than Ice tanks to play as you play as a reactive tank instead of a proactive tank.  (you heal yourself instead of putting up shields to reflect damage).

Sorcery is pretty strong too,  but the summoning tree for damage role is pretty useless for the most part, save for a couple abilities.

    most fun...

I think its really personal. I've had the most fun on a controller (pistols/gadgets) and a tank (Martial arts/Fire). But personally, that's just because I enjoy feeling super powered by taking out large rooms of baddies (or goodies as the case may be) and these have mucho AoE. They also are fun in PvP for very different reasons. Fire tank is hard to kill. Gadgeteer is just so tricky -  stealth, traps, multiple CCs, dots, melee or ranged.

Interesting question.  From what I can tell from most games I play is that ppl are predisposed to one type of another class type.  In other words, A person often plays healer in most games he play.  The same with other class types.  Thus I think you may get alot of "this is the most fun class" based on what their traditional favorite class type.

Just an opinion.  I think the best advice is to try them and see what you like.  With a question like this, opinions are like .......... noses, everyone's got one.

You can play a full on dps character.

I tried leveling up a sorc after having played a dps character since i got the game and its freakin terrible. Its horrible leveling a sorc! Nature too.

    Im enjoying the dps role.
