silly argument, erotica was around long before the camera.
edut: in any event, I'm looking forward to Tera. But also looking forward to Archage.
And part of me now wants to go back to L2. sigh.
You are probably right. I still think the animations are silly, not to mention the over gratuitous amount of panty shots.
You know what, for what it's worth, I'll say that I like erotica, the pinup posters of Gil Elvgren, and the over the top depictions of women in Conan and I also find the animations in Tera over the top and silly.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
I'm only worried about TERA's open PvP system. Right now it looks to be garbage, world PvP is one of my favorite aspects of an MMO. Other than that the game looks really good.
As far as people getting all bothered by the Asian art style, I actually love it. It's different and I like different. All the sexy and slutty character models and armor is awesome. I can honestly say the female character's turn me on in this game, the male's can look quite manly as well. I could care less that they are pixels, they are damn fine pixels to look at. If I wasn't married then it may feel a bit perverted or nerdy but whatever, it's honest.
Nah the biggest issue is that they need to change the game to appeal to western tastes something Aion has still not done. BTW AION, Lineage 1&2 never failed they still have huge numbers in the east they just don't here.

Any lady you would want to actually see in a bikini armor (I am guessing here) would never wear it in combat anyways because combat in armor like that leads to ugly scars or often death. Scars and death are rarely something pretty ladies like, well goth ladies might be excepted from that remark.
And I do remember playing Lineage a long time ago, it actually went fine here around '01 or if it was '02. It didn't fail, it is just really old now.
I actually don't care if players can run around in loincloth or bikinis as long as there are some resonable nasty looking armors for me. So fine, if you like to drool over your and others avatars that is fine by me, but bikini mail is a D&D invention (no, Red sonja didn't have one in Howars version, Bikis werent even invented at the time) and some games actually have realistic armors.
Your cloth user can run around naked, no problem with that but the entire point of armor is protection. So I have no problem with bikinis but I do have problem when bikinis have the same armor rating as a full plate. Sure, you say it is magical but in that case I want a plate with the same spell on.
No matter how cool the combat system, they have to break out of the "eastern" stereotype that seems to turn off most western P2P gamers.
Mostly this.
I'm somewhat interesting in the game, though the combat videos I've seen make the combat look much slower than I'd like for a game supposedly skill based. Lots of running around to position and bottlenecks on energy. I like faster paced combat, not just the appearance of fast paced combat because you can move around and dodge attacks. Sometimes that can be fun when its tactical, but when you're doing this at every mob you come across, using the same tactics, it gets less and less appealing.
I am sorry, but I just don't see this being a huge hit here in the states. There just doesn't seem to be enough people that like that cutesy artwork. I really don't care how great the graphics are, the artwork and animations make me cringe. Will it be bigger than Aion? Not sure, but as long as it's a better game than Aion, it will probably at least have better subscription retention.
Personally, and this just my opinion, go ahead and rip me to shreads, this game looks awful and I wouldn't even consider playing it for free. Every video I see of this game almost makes me physically sick to my stomach. I don't like Anime, I don't like cutesy art and chicks with huge eyes wearing bunny ears. To each their own and I respect anyone elses opinion about the game, just not for me, and it's not for any of my friends.

You seem to have an issue with one or two races. Not everything in the game has huge eyes and bunny ears. Examples being the Amani race, Baraka race and Humans.

Kinda like this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hvw2FY6wFHo . Seem's the combat speed scales fast to me depending on the class and level I guess. Anyway I find Tab-targeting games to be less appealing to me now days....meh to each his own I guess.
Granted Tera should never be compared to LoTR when it comes to emersion by art design. They are clearly different styles and should be viewed as such because no amount of westernization is going to change that fact.

I'm not convinced that this game wil be any more western than Aion. I love games with an eastern feel, but I hope they aren't seriously trying to sell this game as western.

I completely respect your opinion because you admit without trolling that you don't like asin mmos. It's fine, you are a true western player that like western games only, nothing bad about it, everyone has their own tastes.
I'm not convinced that this game wil be any more western than Aion. I love games with an eastern feel, but I hope they aren't seriously trying to sell this game as western.
As somnicide pointed out there are 7 races and only 1 is more "eastern" orented, rest is the standard like in Aion. Moreover In Aion you have body sliders and you can do all manipolations you want for every race, i find it stupid but fortunately here is not the case.
ps: Really want try Vindictus but this fuc*ing nexon block my region and in Europe seems it will be never released.
I'm not convinced that this game wil be any more western than Aion. I love games with an eastern feel, but I hope they aren't seriously trying to sell this game as western.
People have choices for a reason. Clearly TERA just has a wider range of choices to play with. You can play with a more western oriented race or an eastern one. I dont see the problem.

Though I have not played it, from what I've seen in the videos, I like the pacing and type of action style combat in TERA better than what I've experienced in DCUO or Vindictus so far. Neither of the latter are terrible, but I like the more freeform nature I've seen with TERA, and the pace is just fine to me.
Overall, it appears TERA is doing a pretty good job in making it appealing to a Western audience.

Never said that was a problem with me. The people that are trying to say that Tera is Korea's best chance to be accepted in the west need to remember that the actual game doesn't try all that hard to be western. Sure, it has Western elements, but it retains plenty of eastern as well. Some will never tolerate being in a group with someone who looks like they jumped off a Pokemon card.
I'm only going to make one comment... Its about Tera's Skill system. Yes I hear its not about spamming different kinds of attacks. Instead its more about timing and reacting, while moving to avoid the opponents attacks. Which in my estimation is a simpler approach. But Sometimes when things are "simpler" they are much more difficult to master.
Oh, and since gameplay always trumps graphics in my book. I think Tera's success will depend on players are able to adapt to this new paradigm. Other games that have tried similar things haven't faired so well in doing so. Age of Conan is the best example I can think of atm. We'll have to wait and see...

Thanks Somnicide, I will check out the videos. I will admit I have not given much attention to this game, and who knows, I may play it someday. If it really is a truly great game, I suppose I can get past the art style

For a spiritiual successor to Lineage II, I really like the Tera animations and avatars. If they also have similar PvP ... well ...
And before that, Lineage and Lineage 2 have been very successful, too. Unless my memory fails and they arent korean ?
ok maybe some of korean game fail in the na and europe. but in Korean Lineage and lineage 2 and aion did very well and far from fail
its by trying to western it that korean game fail
~The only opinion that matters is your own.Everything else is just advice,~
I would hardly call Aion a failure. It has a respectable presence in the west. Stronger than quite a few western made MMOs.
I'm interested to see how it works out. The NA MMO market has shrunk and uses old tech. So sick of WoW clones.
Tera and Soul and Blade and ArcheAge use the new graphics engines from Crytek and Epic. They look really nice.
Paid good money for a DX11 card, please let me use it >.<.
Kind of worried that Tera is talking about gamepads on PC though!

I think that by far the biggest hinderance to TERA succeeding in the West is the artstyle. If it can overcome that, I see no problems with it.

@OP: Your thread title is very funny considering 3 of the top 5 most subscribed MMO's in the world are from Korea.
Not to mention Maplestory and Vindictus.
Plus, once again, "fail" is being used to describe ANY mmo that doesn't land WoW numbers.
I think Tera will be a great game, but to say that Korea hasn't released any 'non-fail' games is dead wrong.

In fact, there are a lot of western elements in the game. People just seem to fixate on the eastern ones and ignore the rest.
