The Matrix Online: Friends & Family Trial Program

DanaDana Member Posts: 2,415

The folks over at the Matrix Online have announced a Friends and Family Trial Program that will allow fans of the game to invite others to join them. Here is the info and an FAQ on the subject.

The Matrix Online Team is pleased to announce the Friends & Family Trial Program that will take place from May 20th-29th, 2005 during the next major live event, "The Hunt for Morpheus." On Thursday, May 12th all current subscribers to The Matrix Online will be e-mailed 3 trial keys and a game client download link.

Each of these keys will allow a non-subscriber guest to sign-up and play the game during this live event.

Morpheus, the once-beloved Zion visionary leader, takes center stage in "The Hunt for Morpheus" event. Continuing to pursue the haunting question "Why won't they give up his remains?" Morpheus resorts to drastic measures to persuade the Machines to return Neo's body to the people of Zion. The fragile truce between the Machines and the people of Zion begins to shred under this added strain, and the Merovingian takes advantage of their distraction, intensifying his efforts to expand the Exiles' power base. Tensions run high on all sides, and Morpheus becomes the focus of the chaos to ensue.

Be sure to check the official website www.thematrixonline.com for more details on the Friends and Family Trial Program and on the upcoming "The Hunt for Morpheus" event.

Nice :) though Ive already played it since I was in beta and I gotta admit it's not a game for me. Maybe they haven't got as many players they thought they would so therefore already now give's this offer. Just a thought.

Congratulations, you've prompted my obligatory "BETA IS NOT RETAIL!!!!" statement.

There's plenty of players....that's not a problem there. But many people like to try before they buy....I don't blame them at all. But in this case I think it's an extra cool thing, since there are so many damn MxO bashers around, so that people can try and see for themselves.

Oh yeah....and once more time.....the beta version is not the same as the retail version. Very differant game.

They are basically doing the same thing The Saga of Ryzom did after their first month of release; begging and pleading for more subscribers. SoR had a very similar promotion that tried to get friends of subscribers on board to play the game for a week and then subscribe. There may be plenty of players, but obviously not enough or they wouldn't be running this promotion already. I don't remember seeing SOE or Blizzard running FREE TRIALS for friends and family after the first month of EQ2 and World of Warcrafts release. Actually, Blizzard did the total opposite, and stopped putting the game on retail shelves because their servers couldn't handle the mass amount of people who wanted to play. image

I played the game in Beta and know several people who tried in after retail release. Most of the people I spoke to said the game just wasn't all that great. It's an aquired taste, like cavier. Some people will like it, while other will hate it. If it was the only other MMORPG on the market besides EQ, AC1, AC2, DaOC and AO, I'd probably would give it at least a 3 month try, but since there are many other MMORPG games out there that are better, I'm not going to waste my time.

The retail version is much better then the beta. That's just my opinion.

Hey Xander, care to give me one of the trial keys? I'm sick of the fantasy MMORPGs and since SOE killed SWG, I can't get into WoW. I think I might like this game, but I'm not spending $50 to find out.

Another bluepill here, waiting to be awakened. If any kind-hearted redpills have an extra trial key, please email it to Phibona@gmail.com.

Thank you in advance for showing me the Real World. image

Well, almost all new games (mmorpg's excluded) offer a "Demo" version for download, so people can try the game. I fail to see how this indicates a lack of playerbase or sales. Anarchy Online has offered a trial version since they launched, which was how I got involved in that game years ago....and it certainly had nothing to do with a lack of players. (lol)

Yeah, you won't find companies like SOE and Blizzard offering trials.....they want every penny they can get. Their policy is to let people waste their money to find out if they like it or not. Just because a company isn't greedy, does NOT mean that they are hurting for players or sales.

And by the amount of people I see in the game everyday on just the one server I play on, I would say the game's doing quite well.

My only gripe about the game is that there needs to be more than one viable way to level. Right now, missions give the most XP, so of course, that's what you do to level. There needs to be a raise in the XP given for street mobs, to make them a viable source of XP, and/or other options.

Of course, I'll be lvl 50 soon, so it won't matter to me personally (yay! I can stop leveling and do OTHER things!!!). But many people who get bored playing are bored simply because of misison grinding. Yes, there's a lot of other things to do, but everyone wants to cap out ASAP (of course), so that's all they do, and they miss out on the rest of the game as a result.
