What old MMO's are everyone going back to?

Seeing as how everything new is sucking pretty terribly and getting further and further away from what many of us loved about the genre.

I would say lots of people are going back to EQ this week. On Tuesday they are launching a new Time locked progression server where the community votes on when to unlock the next expansion. I can't see any other old MMO's that people will be going back to in the same numbers this month as EQ.

Yea, definetly everquest recently. I purchased a sub before they offered the free deal, but I am seeing more and more people on my home server comming into general chat (Ahh its great to be back!) type of thing.

People are excited (well, the ones for the progression server, those against it are angry it is taking away players from their home server) and I am noticing a nice influx in players. My 25 bard had someone to group with! There were 15 people in gfay last night levels 1-10! (usually there are none, unless you count me, or maybe some lvl 90 in the zone).

I would love to go back to daoc but sadly I traded my daoc account away for an everquest accuont back in 2004 (which I have lost the username/password) and don't want to start from scratch in daoc again. (I was young and dumb) ((Now I am older and slightly less dumb)) :P

Going to be using my 7 free days of EQ. As it is one of the only things that will run on my backup comp/ Sh^t heap. Will see how it go's but pretty sure I will be out of there as soon as my main rig is out of the shop.

I'm just trying to find something to play and nothing new interests me. EQ might be a little outdated graphics wise for me though.

Everquests TLP server for me for sure there is no MMO that is better then EQ.

Going back to an old game (more than a few years old) will only serve to further depress you. I suggest trying out Rift and signing up for the betas for SWTOR, Tera, GW2, Mythos and Secret World.

Also, if the oldies are so good then why are they so low on population? The future is ahead of us not behind us in my opinion.

Also Last time i checked you didnt need 100000000000 people to have a good MMO i rather have a smaller # with a closer community instead of games Like WoW and Rift where you have retards trying to show off there E-peen. And most of thease old games dont have as low population as you think.

I understand your point, but you can't play those old games forever. How about trying DCUO? That's hard as hell at endgame... so hard in fact that I quit! Everytime a new sandbox (old school) comes out it goes nowhere. Only the themeparks do well. In the end, devs aren't going to make a game for the minority (less profit) that wants one thing when the majority (more profits) wants the other. Maybe someday an mmo will be made that is the perfect blend of difficulty, themepark and sandbox themes allowing you to go in your own direction. That's asking for a lot but maybe?

DCUO HArd? give me a break i cleared it in days lol. All thease old games have been around forever EQ is on its 17th expansion and there is more comeing its been out 12 years and to this day its still the best MMO ever made.

I always think about going back to FFXI because I have fond memories of having good times in that game. At times I just want to say the heck with it and just go play it because everything is becoming dumbed down crap for the masses. On the oher hand I always am on the look out for something new.

I tried RIFT.... at first it was ok, til I started getting that same feeling I get from all new games. The "here, let me hold your hand" feeling. If these types of games are what the majority want, consider me done with MMOs,

That would have been my first choice, but if you've read their forums you'd know there is a part of the game that will allow you to level from like 30-90 in a day. Thats not what I want either.

I don't see why people can't play these games into the future?

Why does a game have to become invalidated just because it's older. I don't really follow your logic.

Heck, if the economy for Lineage 2 was as easy as some of these modern games I'd still be playing it.

I went back to EVE a few months ago and still here. Loving every minute too.

And yes, FFXI's levelings easier. They increased EXP for mobs that con DC and up. They removed the daily limit from Fields of Valor too, but after the first you only get experience, no Gil or Tabs.
