I have been daily debating for 2 weeks whether to pre-order this game because it seems to be what I have been longing for in a Mmorpg.
I came so very close to hitting that pre-order button this morning until I read a 5 page discussion on the forum of the main site concerning "macroes" and "third-party apps".
I remember full-well the downward spiral in the game Asherons Call from macroing and apps such as Sixth Sense, and I believe this game will be rife with the same type of activity.
Based on all the videos I've seen of this game, it will be macro heaven.

Such a shame that you base your decision on buying a game on wether someone else is macroing, surely that must mean that maybe you don't play any mmorpg's? because lets face it, it's going on in nearly every mmorpg out there. Fortunatly there a few things that will help deal with it in Xsyon from what i have gathered including the fact the it's against their rules so the macroers take the risk of their account being banned, but alas this is all reletive because you will never truely get rid of macroing ever even if somehow the internet suddenly banned all macroing across the world people will just build contraptions to hammer the keys for them. Even some games have embraced macroing: Rift for example and SWG.
What i'm trying to say is, it is probably better to base your actions on getting the game on wether you will enjoy it/will have fun and not other peoples actions.
BTW i just took the plunge today and pre-ordered the game after weeks of sitting on the fence, even if the game 'is not for me' 40 bucks is small price to pay that helps keep an indy dev and there innovative ideas alive.
1. no one will want to write a bot program for a game like xyson its not gonna be a super populated game.
2.xyson is the type of game that is based on its community. once the full pvp system is opened u will have evil and good tribes. there already tons of tribes already stated they will hunt anyone thats a criminal or a macroer.
another thing unlike most other games just being near a object dont mean u can use it. u have to actualy look at it and hit a button. for example is using a basket to store stuff. its not like the wow system which would be walk up to it and be close and hit 1 button to open. in xyson u have to go up to it look at it to open it.
[mod edit]
bah was something else its right on edge of my brain but the beers from last nite blocking it lol. ohh well if it took just 1 vid to turn u off of game then thank god u not gonna be in game that means its realy not th game for u.
and aranamu dont forget for 40 bucks u get 2 week headstart, and 2 months free play also
Seriously EVERY MMO has people using macros, or at the very least autoclciker. So what you won't play a game if there is a chance that someone will have higher skills than you?
"I am not in a server with Gankers...THEY ARE IN A SERVER WITH ME!!!"
The lead dev has already spoke out against macroers and they have systems inplace to stop it.
Notice it is at the discrestion of the staff... which means if you are a fast talk er or in good with them you can get away with it.
"I am not in a server with Gankers...THEY ARE IN A SERVER WITH ME!!!"
You're right. I decided to go ahead and make the purchase, and for primarily the reasons you stated above.
Has nothing to do with the issue. Most players will have higher skills than me... I could care less.
I loathe cheaters, plain and simple.
Then do what I do and if you see someone macroing report them. THen kill them after the GM shows up to confirm.
"I am not in a server with Gankers...THEY ARE IN A SERVER WITH ME!!!"
They still must adhere to the power of the GCD... The great Global CoolDown.. :-) So even if they have everything setup on a macro (which isn't really "smart" unless you have a 1..2..3.. /faceroll group of souls..) they will not have much if any advantage at all over those who don't use em..
I'm pretty sure i've dominated my fair share of macro"bots" in PvP...
Looking at the combat in Xsyon though, when you can attack rapidly, yeah macroing will be a much more serious unbalancing problem.. So they better be on their game whe it comes to sniffing them out..
I think Macros, mods, apps should be banned period from games so that the player will play it the way the dev meant for it to be played and Especially WOW.
Well, I'm playing the game, but yes, we will very probably get a sizeable number of players that want to macro their characters to the top of the heap. I'm aware that the developers stated that all use of 3rd party apps will be forbidden but as yet it's unknown whether and how they follow through on this.
Let's face it, any game that has twitch combat, FFA PvP (with some safe zones) and full loot attracts a certain population of players that will do everything to get a competitive edge. I hope we don't see a game that gets destroyed by it's players before the developers even have a chance to finish the development. Wouldn't be the first time that the "play-to-crush" mentality of a minority of players makes a game unplayable for the majority.
I maintain this List of Sandbox MMORPGs. Please post or send PM for corrections and suggestions.
And this is the only reason I haven't preordered. I'll wait a few months and see this plays out.
You must be crazy and/or underestimating the dedication of your average cheater.
Google "Easy UO", now how many subscribers UO has?.. Well yeah!
Not low-profile enough for you? Go to Haven & Hearth forums, that game can barely get 1000 players while being compeletely free, and still half of their forums are people ranting about bots/macros.
Glad you did so, Eremon, I thought the same, buying it last week
The post you are talking about was made by me, by the way. I was very happy to see that the majority of the players are very hostile about macroers of any kind and that's already a great thing. Most of them are very sad about the route Darkfall took and wouldn't like to see the same happen to Xsyon. That means that even if the developers won't have enough time to monitor this issue on their own due to a very small dev team, players will be very active to report macroers, hopefully.
Players who did macro their way and think that it's the only way to play their games are in there as well and some of them even openly state on the forums that they are going to be doing at least attended macroing. Hopefully, they'll be dealt with asap as well as all other cheaters.
I do agree that lots of game mechanics are frightinly macro-friendly. Still, with right supervisioning, macroing can be fought. Especially if the punishment is harsh and fast.
I'm hoping for the best here and will give this game a very fair chance.

They are very small company can they really enforce their rules ? Even Turbine had difficulty. I must admit I watched this video of this guy cutting down a tree and carying the wood back and it looked good. I mean the graphics are not that great but the freedom very very intriguing. I mean literally do everything like that, it is like second life with combat.
This game will undoubtedly be stuffed to the gills with cheaters, botters, macroers or whatever else you want to call them.
That said, I am willing to give it a shot, as in the early days they will have relatively little effect on my gameplay, and I think it will become pretty obvious who is cheating, when their characters become stronger, better, faster than would be humanly possible.
At that point, it's all down to the company. Will they have the guts to cancel subs or not?
they will have the guts.. Remeber that Nazi campfire cross picture a few days back on these forums ? that user is banned.his camp area destroyed. Bin there, seen it.
exactly what I was thinking, and exactly why I wont play it lol
