Community question

PNM_JenningsPNM_Jennings Member UncommonPosts: 1,093

I'm very interested in Xsyon, but two things are keeping me from preordering (besides the fact that I probably shouldn't spend the money, but two free months sorta glosses that over): one is the combat, but I know that it's going to get an upgrade, so I think I can look past that. Secondly, and more importantly, is the community. My enjoyment of a game really hinges on whether I can find a spot in the general community. So how is it looking right now? And how densely populated is the world?

I just pre-ordered yesterday myself. I found the community very helpfull, good guides on the forums and the people in game seemed to want to help newbies. I ran around for a few hours looking for that perfect spot to place my tribes territory, but every good place I found was populated. I didn't see too many people while I was exploring, and the few I did see didn't bother ganking me thankfully. So far I would say it is worth 40bucks, just eat ramen noodles for a week, that will pay for it.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't most if not all of that free two months, beta time, meaning anything you accomplish in that time is going to get wiped come game release?

No, the final wipe happens this Friday the 18th. After that there will be no more wipes and the two free months does not start until March.  if you preorder you gain access from now tell the 18th and then there will be a wipe on the 18th and then from the 18th till launch on March 1st. Then your two free months start.

So after the 18th there are no more wipes. It's effectively release time at that point.

If you are just looking for pvp or combat in the game then its not the game for you. Combat and PVP will always be a secondary area of the game. The developer has made it VERY clear the game is a crafting an world building game with pvp and combat being a secondary addition.  There will always be safe areas in the game and so forth. This isnt Darkfall or MO nor does the developer want it to be.

I'm not a PvPer, but I do enjoy combat. I really think it would be amazing, though, to fight over something you actually care about because of the time and effort involved in creating it, and that seems like what this game could be like.

I agree with the fighting over something you care about. But Xsyon is not that game. The developer was very clear that even once tribal warfare is put in, it will NOT allow tribes to take over other tribes areas. The areas that will be fought over is additional expansion areas only. Your main base will never be attackable or captureable or anything like that.

Like I said he's been very clear on the forums and ingame that Xsyon is first and formost a Crafting + World building game with Combat / Pvp being a secondary addition NOT to interfere with the mail focus of the game.

You do fight for stuff you care about imo. Some of the rarer scavenged items are crucial to advance crafting skills and if those are stolen..you will not be happy. At least I wasn't. I chose leathercrafter and it is not easy raising your skill in leather craft when someone steals your only scissors and the shirt off your back (which can't be replaced until you get new scissors..lol). Eventually , of course, it will be less frustrating when you have a tribe to produce tools or your own toolcraft skill raised to usefulness. ..but still. It is tense at time. Imagine foraging some decent edibles and your packs are fully loaded with valuable scavengings and tons of coveted resources. Your trodding at a snail's pace back home to deposit your bounty...and you get attacked by 2 strangers. Your moving in slow motion because you are fully encumbered. Do you try to run and drain your stamina in little time..or turn and fight ? Can you quickly and safely drop your heavy pack to lighten the load and fight more effectively? Many thoughts passing through your mind..voices telling you that you will likely die (at least until you raise your combat skill) as your burdened arms swing about in a hampered palsied arc.

    It's a blast.

and note, once the save zones are gone ( and they will be after prelude chapter is over) then ppl can wander onto your land, kill you and start stealing your junk piles . they just wont be able to directly acces your secured containers and wont be able to destoy your houses. (as of yet atleast)

Ah cool. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

This hasn't been 100% confirmed.  It really gets me when you scared carebears run your mouths about how the game will be and who its for.  You aren't an authority.  You have no association with the game developers.  Your opinion is just that and nothing more.

Last I've seen the game will have safe zones through the Prelude, but they may be gone as the game progresses.

Not true at all according to what the devs have stated on the forums. Even after prelude is over the only type of combat will be outside the tribe safe areas. There will be no fighting onside a tribe land plot unless it is an expansion tribe spot. Tribe totem covered areas are always going to be protected.

That is unless you play on the pvp server where its truely anything goes even after and during prelude.

Alot of people are confusing Tribal Warfare to mean that there will be no safe areas. This is NOT the case, Tribal areas are always going to be safe spots with the exception of expansion tribal totems. That is where the Tribal Warfare comes into play.

You better read all of the dev posts on the forums ageain. As there was a post where he clearly stated that there was no plans for removing the safe areas around totems and that Tribal Warfare is going to be over expansion areas and NOT main tribal bases.

This is from Q&A  on xsyon forums Q&A is from 3 months ago

    • After prelude- will tribes be able to conquer other tribe lands by destroying their totem?

Yes. How this will work is not fully decided yet. Since we first started working on Xsyon, many games have come out with some good ideas for this type of warfare. We're going to spend some time checking these out before we implement what we think is the best solution.

this is from last month Q&A

    • When will we be able to raid other tribes? And what systems are you planning for that?

Not for a while. This was planned for after the Prelude, which will last at least 6 months. When a raiding system is implemented I will first look at what other games do and what systems have had success

Here is link to all the Q&A :http://www.xsyon.com/forum/showthread.php/2522-Official-FAQ-List?highlight=Official+List
