This does look like it would be more detrimental to the population..but then again playing with a nice population of players that are laggy and in extremely drastic time zones really might not be a good idea. And plus i doubt a lot of the players your encountering arent EU since the time zones are drastically different, or a small amount of them probably are (this is of course subjective, but just saying most likely)
I was in the process of pre-ordering this game until I stumbled across the "rage threads" regarding european servers. I'll be putting the pre-order on hold and checking back to check the status of the game, terrible news.
This is kinda sad news. Eve can use one server..why not this game. I realize EvE has mostly pretty space (which seemed to me to be, essentially, rocks and ships on matte paintings of space with various celestial bodies in the background) and this game has much more involvement with "physical" surroundings but still. Especially since I've heard those outside the states..I think germany and austrailia to name a few ...were not really experiencing any serious ping/lag.
Truly an unwise decision This seemed to be the perfect sandbox game. But just like every other sandbox developer out there they just ruin their own games. For me the whole point of playing a sandbox game is to play on 1 global server and as 1 community. This was the last time i got my hopes up for a sandbox game. Im just getting dissapointed. I already know 2 friends who wont even bother buying this game now.
Well...i dont think that the European server will come. The feedback of the community about this seems to be quite negative and one of the biggest strenghts of the developers is, that they listen to the community. So i think that they will change their mind.
We are in the process of setting up a second Xsyon world on European servers!
Players will be able to connect to both locations if they desire. You won't be forced to play on a particular server, but this will give European players much better connections if they choose to play on the new servers.
We are currently waiting on our host company to set up the new servers. The download server at our US location will also be upgraded and we are preparing an additional Trial server.
We are considering setting up additional servers in both the US and Europe that will be more war oriented where we will remove safe zones and make some adjustments. At the moment this is very likely, but we have no set date for this.
The server and client have been updated and patched out. The main reason for this update is to fix a problem with saving character schemes we discovered yesterday. This was the cause for data rollbacks yesterday and this morning. I will be carefully monitoring the server to make sure this issue is fixed.
This should more than compensate the population split. If it's really going to happen, that is ...
As a resident of Europe I'm very happy to hear that a European Server is planned.
Sorry that some people are against it, but I will certainly be using it.
I am also particularly glad because I don't like the fact that so many tribes are already established. I like the thought that the guilds may evolve in a more natural way based upon people meeting and grouping together. Rather than pre-made tribes leaping in at pre-arranged locations.
Very disappointed by this news. Extremely disappointed in fact. I love now that we have single server much like Eve Online and I get the opportunity to play with people all over the world. This will only hurt the already small community by fragmenting it in my opinion.
Miner this is a niche game. The population isent big as it is now. And the world in this game is very big and will grow even more. Splitting the population between different servers before the game hasent even launched is a very big misstake. And there a apperently even more servers coming. Im sorry to say this but i have made the decision to not play this game. It was a misstake of my getting my hopes up. For me its very important in a sandbox game with a vast world to be 1 community. They should learn from the only succesful sandbox out there witch is EVE.

Thats great news for all EU players! Really all you non-EU people whining about this should try and step into our "200-800 ms ping shoes" . Plus more customers for the game! Have you even imagined how many people would never consider playing this just because it's US server based? I know i hesitated for many days and tried to get some info about ping rates for EU players from irc chat. But i got the "ping doesn't matter for now since there will be no combat" news so...i bought it....
Meh, I liked the one server thing too. So far at least, if a lot more people come flowing in it will become a problem though and I can see the positives with more servers. I've never really had any latensy issues being a EU resident myself, even with my shitty connection.
Main reason I don't like this is because I've got a friend from the US, so it makes things a bit annoying. Ah well, guess I'll have a better chance at getting a good spot at launch.

You seem to be dismissing the fact that an already small community will be chipped away at come launch of the European servers. Population is currently a huge concern, this was evident even before the accouncement of additional servers.
Yes, I can only imgagine if they had split up Eve into US/EU. US server would probably be a ghost town half the time. It would kill the game. I have had very high hopes for Xsyon, but this is really going to bother me. We have both EU and US people in our tribe currently and it is fun interacting with everyone, now I suppose all the EU people will leave our tribe. Disappointing.
Pupuran im from Europe myself and as far as i know no one from Europe has gotten any real problems with high ping. There are other solutions to this problem then starting a brand new server. Sandbox players as far as i know want a game with 1 community. I think this is a very bad idea. And it might even kill the game.

Maybe.
On the other hand, interest in this game has grown since I first played about 10 months ago and it's possible it will continue to grow.
TBH (and this is pretty selfish I know) some of the guilds that have been in the game for ages are really annoying and so extremely patronising that I'll be glad to leave them to their own server located up their own asses in the US.
After i wrote Jooky, that one of the biggest strength of him is listening to the community and that the majority of the community want to play on one server together and we had a few pms about that he answered me:
"Ok, I understand. I will only turn on the European servers if it's necessary to expand.
Thanks for the feedback!
Jordi Grau Davis"
For explanation: He wrote me, that they dont have the server-strength to have so much people like EVE-Online on that and because of this he wanted to start a European server to prevent the server of being overburdened and that all people would be able to play on both servers. After i answered him, that the community wants to play toghether on one server and creating a second server would split the community, no matter if it would be possible playing on both servers, he gave me that answer.
It seems that there were a huge negative feedback and so he changed his mind.
Edit: I knew it! I knew that he would listen to the community! I love that developer!
Good to hear...at least for the majority of players from EU or otherwise (based on the forum posts ). I'm all for the developer going to another server when needed for performance issues or to generate more accounts for revenue...but until then lets try to keep it a one server world. As far as asshats and pre-existing douchbag guilds/tribes/players...well...I've yet to avoid those in any game on any server.

Completely agree.
All that's left to do is for Jooky to update his announcement or inform the community of his apparent doubts.

Damn this just killed the game for me :'(

I think it will not kill the game (for that the game is too good) and it dindt kill the game for me, but im very sad about that decision.
im from EU and will stay on US
and from what i know many EU players will stay on US
Wtf?? EU servers why?? same mistake DF did all over...

At least you can have a character on both servers with only your one account.
