Ok, so as we all know Dragon Nest has taken forever and a half to come to America. Well I decided to look into the game and see what all the hoop-la was about, you know see if its any good. Apparently it has gender locked classes and very limited character customization.
My question is: Could you all help me find a mmo out there that has a battle system like Dragon Nest, with NON-Gender locked classes?
You see, everything entices me about Dragon Nest except these two factors....they only have 4 classes to choose from with limited customization and classes are GENDER LOCKED, I HATE point and click battle systems or systems than don't allow for combos....so the main reason I'm so intent on finding a game similar to Dragon Nest is for the BATTLE SYSTEM and NO GENDER LOCKING....I'm mean seriously, I wanted to play with a MALE force user NOT FEMALE. Though before any of you say I'm sexist I'm not, I'm just a guy who appreciates playing with male characters...I prefer to pretend that they are myself, and I can't really do that with a female character...

Hmm. Odd.

Anyways. This game looks pretty cool. Thats why theres hoopla about it. Gender locked classes are a thing companies like to do if they don't want to have to fit armor to multiple body styles for each class. It's a workaround for getting a game released quicker. Less work for them.
Yes, I like playing with male characters....that wasn't really a helpful post....anymore info out there?
I'm completely with ya about the combat and action style gameplay (the gender lock doesn't really bother me though).......i havent found a game like dragon nest, thats been released, in america or the eu yet.....still waiting unfortunately
I hope they release an English beta, this game looks awesome from the videos and streams Ive seen.
Blade and Soul I think. not sure about GW2 combat.
I think Tera-Online would be perfect for you.
The combat is almost exactly the same- hackn'slash.
Tera provides the same classes and more:
- Warrior
- Mage
- Archer
- Medic
and a couple of hybrids.
Only difference being Tera is open-world and also pay monthly.
TERA is nothing like DN. I know cuz I played both. TERA is not as actiony as people think
im looking for a new game to play...
gender locked clases AND point and click only movements...
ill pass on this "gem"
Point and click only movements? I think you are looking at the wrong game... When I played it I don't even think point and click movements was an option.
Oh..mis read..let me rephrase then:
im looking for a new game to play...
gender locked clases...
ill pass on this "gem"
Fixed it for ya.
Gender locked classes is a sign of cutting corners and developer lazyness.
no one ever said "hey i really wish this game had gender locked classes"
Are you sure you want to play this game? I got onto the Taiwan servers, and the graphics are charming, the animations detailed, and the action fabulous.
However, this game plays like this:
1. Enter portal.
2. Go through four linear "stages" killing trash.
3. enter fifth stage and kill boss for loot.
4. Unlock harder mode, do 1-4 again till you unlock the hardest mode. Do again as many times as you like.
5. Go to next portal and do 1-4.
That is mostly what you are doing between visiting towns. The PVP is really fun, sorta like those action arcade fighter games but in 3d. Hope you have good gear tho...
Anyway, Dragonica, or Dragon Saga, plays almost exactly like Dragon's Nest, except in 2.5D. So try that if you want.
Well it sounds like the class he wants to play is locked as female.
Genderlocked classes is the flag banner telling me the devolopers are lazy. The only reason to do this is to save on textures and devolopment cost. You dont want to make both genders for all classes because you dont want to make the models.
I dont play any game that locks gender.

Yep, i figured as much, it is one of those lazy games.

Im in the same boat, I hate the gender lock, I just want a game like DN without it...
Hopefully someone will develop one sooner or later.
Just tried the game. Hate gold spammers already . game is in beta and they are rampant. No quick way to ignore them .. and once again they use the name methods that work best for games that do not let you click the name with ignore Account option .. so you have to try and figure out each ones name spelling ...
I have quit the game before it even started due to this. UnInstalled it from my comp .. good riddens to another gold spammer lovin game company.
OH .. and the controls are lame as well with camera angles that block your line of sight you NEED to use to target mobs you need to hit ... No way to get away from it .. if they are going to implament twitch combat then get the Dern camera where it belongs so we do not have blocked Vision 90 percent of the time ..
Hate Gender lock also .. Wanted to make an archer but Female is only option .. BOOOooohhh .. Hisss .. bad devs. Bad game company.

Gender Lock?! Wtf is gender lock?!
These gender arguments either are coming from under developed children or gender insecure people. I don't think many realize how superficial gender is when playing a character. It is not a sign of laziness from a developer either. Games should not be expected to always provide some sort of customization at all and should not be associated with laziness. That's the most un-intellectual statement one can make.
"I'm not playing (insert game) because i couldn't have (insert feature) for my character"
"im not playing World of warcraft because I couldn't have yellow eyes for my character" - sounds unreasonable to me.
"Im not playing (insert game) because I couldn't have a taller height for my character. I only play tall characters because i'm insecure about playing as a short character."
You don't play any given game or mmorpg and classify it as lazy if the developer doesn't offer a specific race or gender for particular class. It may be as much of an artistic or lore decision. Even if it was to reduce or cut corners why would you want a full set of custom features at the expense of my important gameplay mechanics.
Anyway Dragon Nest is an incredible a game an doesn't play like any other. It's extremely polished and has an amazing story with actual depth woven into its questing. The style of art may be a turn off for some however, I would assure you that if you are into twitch/action mechanics then dragon nest's gameplay makes up for it. The animation and in game scenes has to be of the best I have seen in an mmorpg. Extremely immersive and convincing. I mean the cut scenes and story does not seem to be held back by the technical limits of the games engine. Additionally each class plays very differently from the other adding for a higher than usual replayability.
There are some cons. The instancing (which i dont mind at all) dissected into very small segments. There is generally a lot of loading within each dungeon sometime causing you to wait on certain party members. I have no opinion at the moment on the cash shop. Grouping up for dungeon runs appears like it could have been done a bit better. I have an easier time finding PUG(pick up groups) in vindictus for example.
TL;DR: Worth the try to see if you like it, and Get over your gender insecurities in video games.

Troll it up. Anything else you would like to assume? Any other sweeping statements?
If I feel like playing a class as a female..and then decide I want to play the class as a male it's my choice to make. In this game the choice is already made. Not many insecurites there.
Are you suggesting coconuts migrate!?
I agree. I don't write off gender-locked games (unless the classes I prefer to play are locked female), but I strongly dislike the practice. I do, however, understand that in most gender-locked games, the characters have individualized and somewhat complex backstories that explain how they fit into the world. This still doesnt excuse developer laziness IMO though, but it makes their laziness slightly more udnerstandable, since they'd have to write twice the backstory. Gender-lock bothers me from another aspect in the terms of the classes often end up falling into sexist stereotypes. DN is a great example of this; the female classes are both delicate distance fighters who let the more heavily armored, close-range men handle the "messy" fighting. Although the majority of men and women do prefer to fit into the stereotypes, I know plenty of female gamers who always play female characters and prefer full-contact sastifaction (and supprting in terms of the Cleric), and men who like to attack from a distance but would rather play a male.
Gender lock, huh? Is this one of those lame games that makes all casters and healers female and all warrior-types male? If so....that answers all I needed to know in regards to whether I would check the game out. Sexism just isn't cool with me, even for "reasons" of lore or whatever. No reason makes it okay with me. Just my opinion.

gold spam in global chat completely ruined it for me. Also no block function. How else do you find groups and such...
To the caterpillar it is the end of the world, to the master, it is a butterfly.
There is a block function, you just didnt find it apparently. Its in the Social tab, along with your friends list, and the party finder. Once bots are blocked you won't see them spamming anymore; since they haven't cleared out the bots yet, I havent needed to reblock as long as I stick to the same channel.
The healing/support class (Cleric ) is male which breaks the stereotype a little bit. Not all gender-locked games have sexist classes either. Dungeon Fighter Online has a strong female Martial Artist-type class, and relatively delicate ranged Gunner class for both males and females (each one has slightly different skills), and even the delicate little female mage can become a Battlemage and fight up-front with the well-muscled hulks.
Sexism?!
Here's an interesting fact: In reality females are generally less physically capable in comparison to most males. This is natural biology and nothing more. Throughout human history males naturally carry masculine traits because it's in the genetics. No one is being sexist or unfair to the female population. It all mother nature (unless you prefer father nature). Its the same reason why osteoporosis is common in women and testorone in dominant in men. This general doesn't apply to all females and males but just the general majority.
Sure the dev's could have made the warrior and cleric female. And made the caster and ranger male. But then you may complain that the female looks masculine (as one would if they were warrior) while the males were less physically attuned in appearance.
Sorry, but I think they made the overall decision not because they were "Sexist" but because it just made sense from a general perspective of genders. No one is claiming that because a female is generally not stronger than a male, that females are any less value in society. But because you assume people do, it only shows what kind of false perspective you have on society.
Reality Check: Male mammals are usually physically stronger and more aggressive than females.
Working on it
Aaaaaaand this means that people can't choose the genders of their classes, why? Most sexism comes from holding men and women to their "biologically defined roles" that have no place in the modern society. Humans are above instinct. Maybe it's more "realistic" this way, but in a modern game for modern people, most people won't like perceivable sexism.
