2 questions reguarding Jedis and Fencers.

Hey all.

I had some questions. First of all, how long does it take to get a Jedi now? I heard they made the process a lot easier.

Also, I used to love PVPing as melee in SWG. Is melee still effective in PVP(as far as dueling goes)?

    To become Padawan = quest based = 18 weeks+  (6 phases a 3 weeks)

To become full Jedi = months

To become Jedi Kinght = months

To become Jedi Master = one year+

Melee is still effective in the right terrain ... somewhat nerfed compared to pre-CU. You wont like open plains, where a ranged profession can root you to a spot or knocks you down so you cant get in range. Sounds pretty logical, no :-) ? Suddenly suppression fire is exactly doing what it says.

IMHO ranged is where its at.....atm. We all know how things can change at SWG.

Again IMHO if you want to be mellee, go with Swordsman.  Fencer had some nice defences but from what Ive seen the weapons available to them have been nerfed. Months ago 1 of my chars was Master WS and I made some realy kick-butt Scyth Blades and Power Hammers for my brother in laws toon. All the best resorces and enhancements were used, then all were sliced. His scythes were incredible. After the CU even the weapons respec'd themselves and the scyths are now just useless but the Hammers I made actually got better.

From what Ive seen of the other melle profs, they arent worth concidering anymore. TKA is just a shadow of its former self and Pikeman had thier weps nerfed pretty hard also. Most pikeman had NS drop lances that were realy tough, but all primo drop DOT weps got nerfed also.

MASTER brawler is always a good investment .. if you can spare the skill points.

More questions, is Bounty Hunter an effective PvE? And what's a good profession that supplements it? Also, when you get BH, do you still have to buy the Bounty Hunter ship? And what's the deal with the jetpack I've been seeing pictures of?

I've never done BH, but all of the BHs I know seem pretty happy with both PvE and PvP.  So I'd say it's a pretty safe bet that it is indeed a happy PvE profession.  A lot of the BHs I know have also taken Commando and a few other backup professions that vary from person to person.

I don't know anything about the ship, but you WILL need droids, and the people I know who do well always say it's worth the money to get the very best.

Jetpacks.  <grin>  I've seen a couple that have them.  It's very funny to watch them use them.  They really do pick a person wearing one up off the ground and zoom around.  They seem to be very cool toys.  I'm under the impression that they are not all that easy to get though.

There's probably a lot more specific and useful info on the BH profession forums at the official sony station SWG site.  Considering BH is the flavor of the month now and that there are a LOT of Respec BH looking for help to figure out what to do with all these new skills and abilities, there should be a lot of fresh answers on what has got to be a very long list of query posts.

Well I'm coming back to the game so I'll be able to redistribute my points, or atleast I heard thats what you're allowed to do. So if I put it all into BH/Commando, I'm just worried SOE will end up nerfing it :P

Well welcome back.  You SHOULD be able to /respec, since your character is a pre-CU one.  As I understand it, you have two weeks worth of /respec from the first time you log in after the CU to mess with and tweak your character's skills.  You can do it once every 12 hours (server hours, not rl hours, as the time servers are down for patching, maintenance or whatever is not recognized).

<sigh> The dreaded SoE nerf-bat.  Well, considering the profession combos that are currently popular among the respec-BH are superior enough that it HAS become FotW, I'd say there's a few less than subtle balance issues.  Most likely severe enough that SoE will take notice and then nerf the living crap out of them instead of just tweaking things so that the BH elite combination templates are a little less powerful and the other elite profession templates are a little less wussified so that the game professions come back to the normal, acceptible state of inbalance where most people are happy and there are a few more FotWs to offset the population explosion of BH.

So go into it expecting to bend over sooner or later.  Expect the worst and hope for the best and be happy if what happens falls dead between the two.
