This game still has nothing for x DAOC players right ?

ShadanwolfShadanwolf Member UncommonPosts: 2,392

Yes I have a vip pass and been in beta.I just gave up on the game when I saw  zero attention being paid to the entreatys of x DAOC players  for :

24/7 open persistent faction vs faction battlefields. Not mini games. Not limited group sizes .Not ffa pvp. Objectives that can be fought over..held...and captured from the other faction.

These things are still not in the game ...right ?  Or have I missed something ?

If that was in the game, I would forget that it s not that great of a game. With that, the game itself would be decent, because I can do some quests/crafting/rifts/dungeons, then get to the meat of it, fighting over keeps. Damn I want that in a game again. That said 3 factions made DAOC imo.

Why cater to a few thousand players wanting DAoC? In my opinion you all abandoned a game that is still running today. Why make a new version for history to repeat itself? Go play DAoC it still exists, thousands still pvp everyday.

    Playing: Nothing

    Looking forward to: Nothing

I actually do. An option of DAOC style at end game is a great addition to any game. Nothing wrong with wanting it in a new game.

To ask for a mechanic that would change one games entire focus just to suit your needs is wrong. Rift is Rift not DAoC. Let rift live on with as little as it has going for it. Go back to DAoC, support that game. Help by spreading word of mouth with enough support you may get improvements.

As someone who played DAoC for over two years I find Rift's art style and game play to be similar enough to remind me of DAoC more than any other game when I log into it.

The way they display names above players / npcs and the animations all feel very DAoCish, and by that I mean low fantasy, the traditional style of D&D creepy dungeon crawly and all that.

As for PVP It feels a bit more like WoW to my experience, however the staggering number of classes the game has really leans toward DAoC when it comes to the varriety of things you fight, if you go with a PVP sever I think you'll find it feels similar to having three Faction warfare because of all of the rifts going on while there will be enemy invasions from the player faction as well.

Open beta is the 15th, give it a shot, I really like it...

Edit:  For open world persistant PVP I heard they have Port Scion at endgame level, which is a persistant battle area on the open world map that has objective PVP and world boss spawns and such...

Perphaps similar in some way to Fronteers, guess we'll have to see.

First I didn t say I m asking for it in Rift, I simply said that option wouldn t be a bad addition. Second I don t have to go back to DAOC, I m already playing it. Learn to read please.

    Nah..

This is what us DAOC vets have been waiting for, rift is just a get me by and nothing more.

“The other thing that I think is important and this is not a direct answer, but we have World vs. World PvP in Guild Wars 2. I think that will impact PvE as well. Which is your server shard matched up against two other servers in open world PvP. If you like Dark Age of Camelot, this is, in our minds the next evolution of that. It is something that really drove community and you care about what you are doing on a PVE and PvP side. You care about the people on the server. We think we will have those bonds because your server is matched up against two other servers. So it is just that much more important that you become friends and you bond with the players on your server. So the friends you make through PvE and Dynamic Events, those friends will carry over into World vs. World PvP. You may get out of World vs. World PvP and go back to early zones to do events with new people and help encourage them to join you in the fight for your server to take part in battles and beat the other two. We expect large strong communities on each server and I think PvP will end up affecting PvE because people will work together.” -Colin Johanson (Lead Content Designer)

“Each opposing world starts out with castles, mercenary camps, mines, lumber mills and villages. Separating the starting zones are neutral zones controlled by no one, also containing fortresses, mines, and villages.

The resources gained from mines and lumber mills are used to rebuild walls, create siege engines, and generally defend the team’s fortress.

These territories and control points will confer benefits to the world that controls them; “maybe everyone gets increased energy regeneration or healing rate or enhanced loot drop rate.” Players can gain experience and level their character in World PvP. Guilds will be able to take and hold keeps.

I wasn't singling you out. I was speaking of everyone asking for a mechanic that would change the vision a developer has for his/her game. I'm also aware that you say you support DAoC. Obviously if you support DAoC my go play DAoC comment wasnt directed specifically at you. You need to learn how not to be so defensive and aggressive when discussing a topic. Your learn to read line was uncalled for and it shows a lack of maturity on your part.

Heh, DAOC as it exists today is a shadow of what made it great, too many changes such as TOA, (PVE raiding/artifact grinding), Catacombs (instanced content),ability to solo content for almost every class/destruction of its strong group focus and New Frontiers (sprawling PVP making finding opponents difficult and overly complicated) all changed what was a great game.

Add in a decreased leveling curve, crafting being invalidated by drops, and of course, low player populations and it's just not recognizable.

Had they gone forward with their plans for an Orgins server I think you'd see a lot more people playing right now, but EA scrapped that idea some time ago.

    Pity.

Nothings stopping any of you from going back to DAoC, supporting the game and changing the way the game is. An influx of money would help that game, more money means more development. Giving up on a game guarantees that it will stay the way it is. Support the game and with more money this could be improved, reverted & who knows you may even turn EAs head and get a sequel. People that abandoned their original game have no right to asked for the mechanics they left to be in another game.

If you applied to beta you must know their PvP is focused on instances, they are very direct about it.

I have a strong feeling that DAOC was the exception not the rule and if you like DAOC you should thank your good fortune you were part of something you may never see again. It is not the game, the design, that alone is rather on the weak side, it is the release date, the players, it just all came together. None really knows how to recreate it, Mythic fumbled, Blizzard gave up.

Yes GW2 is the only game that sounds like it might be a place for us x DAOC' vets. The discourse on this thread is very representative of the beta forums where people like me and many others have been asking for DAOC like features to be added for about the last 6 months or so. The result...we've been ignored by TRION and  gotten not so nicely worded comments to just leave and go back to the shattered remains of DAOC or worse. This is why I don't beta test for companys any more.I haven't seen my comments implemented so I don't give them. I just use beta's  as a trial and save myself wasted money,as I will by not buying RIFT.

Those that gave them...thanks for the positive suggestions and comments.
