On an interesting note, I was shocked to see a TV ad for RIFT on in primetime on Scyfy network last night; clearly directly taking on WoW.
Interesting choice on their part, it will be fun to see how it pays off on release.

It could just be a new game coming out advertising for subscriptions, having nothing at all to do with WoW.
He just said it was for RIFT and taking on WOW. I haven't seen it yet. Wish I did. Their marketing campaign is fantastic. Let's hope launch goes well.
True enough. I just can't take too many more threads about Rift and WoW and the attacks between the two camps. I played WoW for a couple of years and enjoyed it. Now I plan to move to Rift and hopefully enjoy it just as much. I don't understand all the hate. I hope Rift is a great success and Blizzard continues on with their great game.
I think the two can coexist.
If the OP was just pointing out an interesting fact, then I apoligize. I can't wait to get in game today.
I've been without an mmo to call home for quite some time now and I have been following Rift since I first heard about it and participated in the first beta event, I think I may just spend some more time on it during open beta then decide weither I like it or not. At the moment im not sure about it, it looks and feels alot like all of ther other mmorpgs out there to me but the rift's etc ingame remind me of what got me so hyped abotu WAR when I first played it.
Yeah it says this is not your azeroth anymore or somthign to that effect.

Yeah, if I haven't made it clear: I played WoW for a good while and enjoyed it; I've played a lot of the RIFT beta and enjoyed it...(although neither game is "ideal" for me, they are well done and I have never said otherwise)
The ad starts off with a fairly standard generic fantay bit, guys in armor..a dragon etc...and then a rift opens with tentacles coming out and the tagline "You're not in Azeroth anymore!" or something close to that....
I was mildly shocked and amused to see them spending the bucks to hit primetime advertising on a reasonably mainstream cable channel as well as taking on WoW directly like that.
Yeah, the head on clash with WOW shocked me a bit but I applaud their balls and their ambition. I had also noticeda Battlestar Galactica Online commercial recently, as well. It would be interesting if by the end of the year, MMO commercials were common during primetime TV.
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein
