Not satisfied with games performance on a gtx260

gtx260, amd 2.7 quad, 4g RAM and win 7 64. Terrible performance for me, last set of drivers made it a little better, get around 10fps in Meridian with shadows off and all else max. It is disappointing considering AoC runs much better at max settings and looks so much better. I am aware the card is old but I would have expected better performance on a game that doesn't look as good as AoC. Likely a combination of things and hopefully optimised further down the line by drivers and client tweeks.

Weird... I have a Q9550 OCed to 3.2ghz, a 260GTX, 8 gigs of ram, on Vista 64, playing at 1920x1280, and have no FPS problems. Even in rifts, surrounded by tons of people, there is no problem. I have everything turned up other than view distance which is at about 75%. I am not sure what my FPS is, as I have not checked, but it plays fluid, with no slowdowns, even under heavy screen activity.

My wife is playing on an AMD 6000+ dual core, Nvidia 250gt, and 4 gigs of ram on Vista 64, and is also not having any problems. Although her settings are on the "high" default, with the same resolution as me.

I would suggest to swap your vista with win7 ... huge improvement :)

    I have an I7 2.8 ghz, ati 5800 series 1 gb card, 8gb ram, win 7 64 bit.

During a Rift I found the lag meter and my ping was 70's and fps was 40.  I dropped my settings down to high and saw my fps go up to 95 I believe.  Getting a little tired now so I might be remembering it wrong.  But it seemed like my fps doubled from ultra to high.

edit: I should add that I am running the game at 1920 x 1200.

The problem with PCs are that there are so many different components you can have as well as different drivers. And we don't all even use the same OS. It is a lot easier for a PS3 owner, they get more or less the same FPS.

This is nothing unusual. If you have problems, start by upgrading your drivers, it usually is the GFX driver. If that wont work try to optimize your computer, remove spyware and all other background programs you don't need.

If that wont help Rift might have a problem with some of your hardware, hopefully they patch it in, try to lower the settings while you wait for that.

Core 2 Duo E6600 OC'd to 3.4ghz, 3 gigs of ram and an EVGA GTX260 running the game at 1920x1200 on ultra settings and I get between 30 and 45 FPS (using windows 7 64bit)

On my main PC - i7950 OC'd to 3.38ghz, 6 gigs of ram and an EVGA GTX460 running at 1920x1080 (Asus VG236 120hz monitor) on ultra I get 60-80 FPS - 90+ if I OC the card (windows 7 64bit).

Now oddly enough my friend has the exact same Core 2 Duo system (only he has 4 gigs to my 3) which I built when I built my C2D, so its using the same exact parts - only difference is the case - and he has to set his to High with shadows off to get 45 FPS, which I attribute to the fact that he has a lot of other crap running on his PC.

But to be honest, with a 260 (being what, almost a 3 year old product?) getting 40~ fps on high settings in a game like Rift is pretty decent imho. Expecting more is pretty off. Getting less means there is something wrong with your machine.

From what I am reading here, with tons of people on Windows 7 being worse off then me, I dont see how you have any point. There is nothing wrong with mine, and I have never had problems with Vista 64.

I am very computer illiterate and was not able to participate in the beta events. I would like some help with determining if my laptop is up-to-date enough to play rift. Here are the specs thanks! By the way I am not fully sure what info I am supposed to include... If you need to know something else let me know

    Processor Support =

    Intel Pentium Dual-core processor: 1Mb On-Die L2 Cache

    Chipset =

    Mobile Intel GL40 Express Chipset

    RAM Size =

    4GB

    RA M Type =

    DDR2

    HDD Size =

    320G depends on models

    Graphics Memory

    64M

    HDD Size =

    2.5”

    Optical Drive =

    DVD+RW DL

    Sound Controller =

    Intel High Definition Audio chip

Windows 7 with a broadband connection

    GPU? Looks like onboard?

    Also what is your clockspeed.

Taking a first jab at it without those asked specs I would say it will run on very low settings tbh.

    Edit:

Just saw the 64M graph memory, so it is onboard. With this I don't think you even meet the min recs. I assume it will not even start up the game then.

Yes onboard and clockspeed is 1.8GHZ

Those specs barely surpass minimum specs for WoW (assuming thats a Pentium 6100 or 6200 dualcore CPU). I don't honestly think it will play Rift even at the lowest settings with more than 5fps.

The again I could be wrong because on low my 3.5 yearold laptop (Toshiba Sat; 3 gigs of ram, Turion 64x2 2.20 ghz, ATI HD2400) gets about 14-18fps...

There seems to be somewhat a pattern in this thread, people with less memory say their fps is low and people with lots of memory are calling high fps. /shrug

I don't understand why some have issues with the game and some don't. I have a PNY GTX 275 with a Q6600 (2.4ghz quad core processor) and 6 gigs of ddr2 ram. I have absolutely no issues with the game. Usually I am between 40-55 fps on Ultra unless in windowed mode then it is less, but this has been my experience with every game and on more than one computer. Windowed mode generates less fps.

My kids 2.2 celeron dual core with a Gtx 860 runs at least 20 fps. You are talking about a $200.00 computer from 2 years ago and the card was $80.00, granted this isn't in Ultra mode.
