Why I don't like RIFT.

raystantzraystantz Final Fantasy XI CorrespondentMember UncommonPosts: 1,237

Not gonna get complicated with this. This is why I do not like RIFT.

1. 2 starter zones? really? Goodbye Alts

2. "You don't need to read the quest text because the only part that has a use is the part that tells you how many rats you need to kill"

3. "Oh, I don' t have to actually look for anything at all, because its all marked with shiny markers on the minimap"

4. "Hi, there didn't I see you in the last zone, doing the exact same quest as me?"

5. "Hi again, are you following me, it seems like we are going down the exact same path"

6. "I would like to have a battle with you, please click on the button that allows us to transport to a enclosed battle area"

Really, whats the purpose of these games anymore. They literally play themselves for you. You don't have to read, you don't have to look for anything because you magically "know" thanks to the minimap magical icons, you don't have to figure anything out because its all already done for you. The game consists of travelling from point A to B and pressing the mouse a few times. Thats real fun, and challenging.

I don't need markers telling me where everything is, I don't want to do 50000 variations of the kill 10 rats quest, and I don't want to listen to 12 years fuss about gear or who did each other's moms.

What the heck happened to the genre I loved? It just keeps getting worse and worse.

well i agree. tbh, if i wanted to play WoW i would have continued playing Cata, instead of quitting 2 weeks in. i hope Rift is the last of these WoW clones. i stopped paying attention to everything thats not  EVE or GW2 related in the MMO world.

Well unfortunately for the both of you, these are requested features by the overall mmo community. Most major MMOs are going to have this in one form or another. Gamer's attention span isn't as high anymore, so good luck.

Not true! As a gamer myself I feel that my attention span isn't as short as you mak- OH HEY! A SQUIRREL!!

Crap, where was I.... Oh yeah, bbl gonna go make waffles.

    Seriously though, you are correct.

There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

    Agreed!

I like that you have to look for a mob to kill for quest and gives you only a general direction.  Or even quests as in Atlantica where they ask you questions about your quest you just did, just to make sure you are paying attention.

If this is the way "most" gamers want it... then no wonder I can't find a good game anymore.

They are requested features for mainstream games. But some players are not mainstream. And some games can be niche games...

yup these new linear play by wires mmo's really suck.  that's why i'm playing vanguard again.  no hand holding there.

Actually most games pretty much play themselves for you anymore.  That last single player final fantasy?  push up, hit a was the whole game.  It's like they are making games for retarded monkey's now instead of gamers.  This current generation of kids growing up is allready the laziest and most unmotivated i've ever seen, this cheese gaming is only contributing.

I'm honestly surprised MMO's today don't just port you right to the location of the "rats" as soon as you accept the quest.

    Oh and in before

"You don't have to do the quests if you don't want to, go and form up a grinding party with others, OPTIONS ARE GUD"

"Well 12 million people say this is what MMO's are today, they can't be wrong"

"You are trollinz RIFT, off with his head!"

"Well it's convenience man, I only have 8 or 9 minutes to play each night, so I want it spent doing something meaningful"

    "themepark vs. sandbox yada yadda"

    requested features by the NPCs.

These NPCs follows and takes  orders from computers, what to do and when.

like follow this arrow ,press keypad number 1 now, allow team request from other NPC now(i searched him for you) etc etc.

these communities of NPCs are not communities of gamers.

If this is the reason for hating the game why don't you just turn the questhelper off?!

As for all the points made in the op .. they have been argued to death in a gazillion other threads. Might want to skim the forums first before posting next time around.

I enjoy Rift because it's fun to me.  I enjoy the world, classes, and I like the lore the quests have.  Hope you can find a game you like eventually.

    OPINIONS HOW DO THEY WORK?

  • niteguy808niteguy808 Member UncommonPosts: 43

I too agree with all of your opinions ive seen

lets just remember rift is a themepark mmo....generally too easy for us veteran mmo lovers

good for casual players and good intro mmo for the general public whom might include real life friends and girlfriends etc

it looks pretty....easy and linear... like playing a movie with your friends

great at growing the market...EQ was an amazing mmo but never got higher than around 200k subs.....themepark mmos like wow and rift bring millions of new people to the mmo space..

and those who finish the linear ride and thirst for something deeper, you get a healthier core and hard core mmo following...

i gave them my money  just for nice effort on art and polish... not sure if ill sub after the first free month

i have friends that did not play wow cause too cartoony...but will play rift cause its cooler and prettier looking..

also its a good chance to connect with some friends that will give it a go while waiting for guild wars 2

would have been nice if rift had more personality to go with the nice art...

lets hope guild wars 2 isnt too easy...

i also think darkfall has amazing potential as well if they can just tweak it properly..

but i feel you... i havent been playing any mmos.... im wondering what happend as well... and they seem good at breaking good mmos so you cant even go back and play the oldies but goodies...

lets hope it improves sooner than later

    cheers..

Seems like some people don't like MMOs in general, maybe they should try another type of game genre.
