Alright, here's the deal. I'm torn by two games atm. One being Earthrise, the other being Xsyon. I have done my research and each are appealing to me, but I don't have the $$$ to get both
Please, convince me on why one is better than the other and for what reason!
Earthrise Concerns ***Tech problems are NOT a concern for me***
1) Nothing to do except grind mobs....
2) Endless PK'ing/camping. Is there an easy way to escape from people?
3) In PvP - does aiming (skill) play a big part in who wins or is it whoever has the better gear?
4) How many exploiters are there?
Xsyon Concerns ***Tech problems are NOT a concern for me***
1) How annoying is having to drink/eat ingame? does it become just a big chore that you have to do ALL the time, or does it flow well with the game? Also, does thirst/hunger effect my chara while im offline (i.e. I log off for a week, come back and he's super skinny and practically dead?
2) How is solo play? I heard the are getting rid of single man tribes. Thats disappointing to me as I enjoy guarding my own territory. do "homesteads" even suffice or do i suffer for playing alone?
3) How long does it take to get anything done? Will it take me like 8hours just to build a little tee-pee or are resources plentiful to where (with a good location) I could have a decent tribe going in a couple weeks.
4) Any exploiters/botters?
Concerns for both games
1) Are these games "Play longer and you ALWAYS win" -- The problem I had in Eve was catching up to the vets. Only because they had played longer they were better than I was. Not because of skill or anything like that. no. play time > ALL

I can't speak for Xsyon, but it looks pretty bad from what I've seen. Do they even have combat working yet?
As for ER:
1) You can also grind crafting modules... Supposedly, territory warfare will be in next month.
2) Escaping is very easy, just type /unstuck and hit enter or log out. Not sure how much longer that will be in game. If that gets taken out, it's all about who has the lead in the foot race, or whether or not someone gets off a lucky snare or stun. In a few weeks you might actually start seeing people with increased stam gear, but your run speed is still the same. Vehicles should be in game in 2 months, but no one knows how they work exactly.
3) You have to be able to aim (and hit bunny hoppers while lagging...), but gear makes a big difference.
4) I've recently stopped playing and all of the exploits I was aware of should be fixed except for /unstuck and logging off. Both of those are very widely used exploits.
1) All MMO's are like this to a degree, the real question is how long til you max out in a certain area and can thus compete with someone who is also doing that. In Eve that can be anywhere between a few months or a few years depending on what you're trying to do (flying high end frigates versus high end battleships or even titans). In ER you could probably max all skills in a few weeks if they leave certain mob spawns in, a few months if they take them out. Gear is another matter, and will be entirely determined by how many crafter friends you have.
My advice is to avoid both games like the plague.
Anyone care to give an opinion on Xsyon?
You'd be better to posts this in Xsyon forum or browse it at the least. I'm sure you'll find your answers there.
Playing Earthrise for a full 3 days and I have to say that my experience is really positive and when the exploits stated in one of the posts above have been fixed and the warfare patch comes this game is a real sticker for me.
The people there will just tell him that Xyson does it all, cooks you breakfast, wipes your butt, and walks your dog. It's almost like they are planted, there are hardly any bad threads about Xyson and they are all about how great of a game it is. Xyson is far from being complete and one day it may be a great game, but as it sits currently, the game is basically nothing more than a client and server test.
Got a Game Idea? Look Here!
well, i think decision is rather simple:
if you are more combat/pvp oriented - go for ER
if you are more crafting/building oriented - go for xsyon
Really?
Because most of the folks seem to be saying the combat needs a lot of work, and the PvE is non-existant right now, amongst other things...
But the foundation for an actual persistant world is there. Game definetly needs work, and if your looking for something other than a community, and craftng MMO, wait a few months and see how/if its panning out.
For some reason though, it seems to be grabbing a few people, myself included.

Xyson is awesome. Spring just arrived and everything turned green. Long cold winter. Anyways, only four animals are turned on. They will all be turned on at release. Combat is getting a revamp but as it is now you have two hands in which you left and right click to right and left punch. If you are equipped with weapons, same thing. To block you hold alt then left and right click and doge is ctrl right & left click. It is a little clunky right now but functional.
The game is so awesome though and I just can't get enough of it. If you are tired of being led around on a leash in your current MMO, come over to Xyson and help shape our new world.
Okay, I haven't played Earthrise and don't intend to do but am playing Xsyon since a week or so. Here it goes.
It's no big deal, it's not like you have to eat constantly, once every half hour or so you munch a bit and get some water and you're fine.
Nope, hunger/thurst do not change when you're offline.
Solo play is possible, but it is considerably more difficult than being member of a tribe. If you don't mind that achievements come slower and are able to deal with frustrations you can go the solo route. If you easily give up you should join a tribe rather soon.
When you're solo it will take you much longer than 8 hours gametime to get your little tent setup. You will spend more than that time to get the necessary tools
alone. Xsyon does not offer fast achievements. Being in a big tribe (I'm not) makes things easier.
Not many, but there are some. Haven't seen any botters yet but there are some exploiters. Crafting tools are very important in Xsyon and one gets a few randomly chosen tools with each new character. Thus some people have got a second account and are re-rolling characters on this account, trading the crafting tools to their main characters, rinse, repeat to get all the tools they need.
Doesn't tell you much about the game but tells you alot about the people that frequent FFA PvP games even when the main focus of the game isn't PvP at all.

[Edited to add that , personally, for me, it's the best game I've played in the last few years. The game's still very much in flux, it will be an interesting ride. And even if it does turn sour, I've already had fair value for my $40 now.]
I maintain this List of Sandbox MMORPGs. Please post or send PM for corrections and suggestions.
This
There is a combat in Xsyon, but it is not Major part of the game, infact there is not skills as of yet ( it will be added later though )
i have been playing Xsyon for a couple of weeks now, and i must say that Xsyon will appeal more to the casual rather than hardcore, and probably 80% of this game is about Crafting
in Earthrise you craft everything, but in Xsyon, you basically Craft the world
there is no City in the game, players make the city, there is no NPC, or quest, the quest is given by the Tribe leader and you can just write anything you want for quest, as long as the item is valid
The Crafting is quite deep in Xsyon, but ER's crafting is good as well
so it comes down to what Benedikt says
oh and just for the record, Xsyon's bug is close to none and the server is pretty good so far, no crashes whatsoever
So What Now?
