Pyromancer build help please

eccotoneccoton Member UncommonPosts: 1,340

I started a mage pyromancer yesterday and I really enjoy it. I usually do not play casters in mmos but like this mage pyromancer. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good build for a pyromancer. I have my second soul and went with elementalist. I want to start my first toon as a mage pyromancer when game goes live and want to have a good understanding of the build I might want to use. Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

If you're at work - I wouldn't plan on getting anything done today.

    Pyro = very squishy

Elemental for second soul - pet will tank Mobs and help you stay alive.

Third Soul - DOminator for Transmogrify 0r Archon for (up to) 5% fire damage bonus

The 5% bonus sounds nice would I want much else from Archon? So the pyro/elemental is a good combination? Do I want to put many points in Archon or only enough for my fire bonus?

That is cool I was messing with it. What other souls with pyro would I want to experiment with. I like the pyro/elemental but not sure about the 3rd. For my elemental build do I want to put many points in elemental or just enough to have an effective pet?

I'd go with equal points ele and pyro, both are great classes and they go very well togther

Yes I have a dream… And its not some MLK dream for equality. …I wanna own a decommissioned lighthouse …And I wanna live at the top… And nobody knows I live there. …And theres a button that I can press, and launch that lighthouse into space.

Having been playing a Mage in RIFT (and I never do) I've found the Elementalist/Pyromancer/Stormcaller combination to have great DPS. Try that maybe.

Elementalist is good, because you get tempest which adds 50% extra crit damage. That's what people go for

I have more experience with pyromancers, throughout all the betas than any other class or soul.

Pyromancer is a VERY soul point intensive soul.  This means that you will want to put more points into pyromancer than any other active soul.  It NEEDS all the pyro tree effects in order to squeak some decent DD out of the class.

Now i see a lot of suggestions already posted...none involve the warlock tree...big mistake.

I have found that heavy pyromancer, with warlock (unlocking the oppertuinity strike skill, being the MOST IMPORTANT warlock skill for pyromancer.  This skill must be fully specced.

What this skill does, is it allows a procc, that when active allows your next cast to be an instant cast.  Its random, which sucks, but sometimes it goes nuts, in this case the pyromancer can literally faceroll both mobs and people, however all dependant on how often it proccs.

This is important because as a pyromancer, your literally spamming fireball a majority of the time, and if well skilled with the warloc proc, you can even get a cinderburst instantcast off when it procs.

With the warlock/pyromancer build, i find myself casting DOT's and my instant pyro skill when still moving, in approach...followed by spamming fireball.

Now what about the 3rd soul??  My advice, keep it with ZERO soul points in it.  You dont need the extra crit from elementalist, however you need the pet for solo pve (you get lots of crits from pyromancer, and INT stats) Keeping zero soul points in your 3rd tree allows you to quickly switch out of the pet (not good for dungeons as he pulls aggro a lot) and go into either archon for some buffs, or chloromancer for the heal on damage skill (my favoriote 3rd for a dungeon, since this skill can be cast on a mob and he wont aggro, even if no one is attacking it yet)  I literally crit every 3rd cast without any soul points in elementalist crit skill, so im not even sure if its even worth the 5 soul points that could be better spent in pyro soul. So at this point, i feel you get enough crits from INT stat and the pyro tree (since a majority of the skills cast by you will be fireball)

Dominator, while an ok 3rd for pvp, wont have the soul points needed to make it really rock, this requires another build imo.

Go heavy pyromancer, get the warlocks oppertunity skill fully soul pointed, and you wont be sorry.  The rest is whatever, you might want to dump more into warlock for better DOT preformance, you might want a pet class spec to go with it. However necro is a very high maintnience pet, and will take away from time spend spamming fireball (which is why i suggest just the elementalist pet with no soul points just for solo pve tanking)

I think you misunderstood something about tempest. It doesn't increase crit chance.
