Pet level caps, useless at level 50?

adam_noxadam_nox Member UncommonPosts: 2,148

A couple pet tooltips don't have a level cap, like the druid ones, but most do, and it seems like the highest level cap for a pet is 36.   Are they not done implementing things, or are pets really doing to be 14 levels lower than whatever you are fighting at 50, and wouldn't that make them completely useless?

You get higher tier pets that aren't level capped.  Does sorta suck since I can no longer use my skellie. Newer pets do have some pretty neat abilities though, but yea the cap is very silly.

Though now that I think about it there is a cap so you dont put like 4 points into ranger and then the rest into marks/sab and get a bitchin tank pet for the entire game.  If you want good pets you have to invest in the tree.

Nope, they should add that to the tooltip, or remove that nonsense about a cap, because it makes it sound absolute.  Thanks for the info, but does that mean ALL the pets can go up that high, or are there still caps that you don't know about until you notice that the trainer no longer will keep your pet leveled up?  Like the first ranger pet you get, can that go all the way to 50?

Yes, all the pets can level up by upgrading it through your class trainer. So as a ranger, you have a multitude of pets to choose from, and all of them are viable.

The 0 point pets will not level to 50 rank 6 is highest which is around level 30 if you want to use a pet you will have to invest more into the soul tree for the higher level pets.  I am actually thankful everyone would be running around with a pet.

ok can someone make a list of what pets can get up to level 50?  It's somewhat important info when trying to plan a build.

Yeah, I made that mistake my first time through. Was really having a tough time by level 15. Then when I finally figured it out some of my skills went up 4 ranks - totally different experience. My pet went from an utterly useless level 4 that I was just using as a distraction to level 15 where it actually took some damage. It was like someone pushed the Easy button.

The level cap doesn't go up to 50 yet, so I don't know if anyone knows for certain. However, they certainly go up quite a bit. I can't see how the level 36 you mentioned wouldn't make it to 50.

right I'm sure one that starts with a cap of 36 goes all the way up, but I'm interested in spending the least amount of points possible in order to get a level 50 pet.

Zero points in ranger will give you a level 50 pet that can tank one thing (aggro wise).

8 points give the option of a DPS pet

24 points in ranger will give you an upgraded tank pet that can tank with aoe aggro.

51 points in ranger with king of the jungle will give you pets that do roughly double the damage and can take something like x10 the amount of aoe damage.

All of these still give a level 50 pet if you rank the skill. In general all the pet classes have a skill that improves the pet the more you invest in the tree. For ranger its King of the Jungle which gives 10% damage and 35% resistance to AOE then +3% and +2% per point above 21, ie. at 51 30 * 3% = +100% damage and +95% aoe resistance versus a ranger with 0 skill points. If you just want a pet that will not get demolished spend no point just take the soul. If you want the pet to do good damage then you need to invest fairly heavily.

uh, the soul point calc doesn't say what pets will go up to 50.

to the other guy, read nadili's post on the first page, they say otherwise, which one of you is correct?

Here's a pic of the highest rank pet you can get with the 0 skill.  Sorry about the size I suck at pic editing.

No I am level 40 on beta.  It's been known since PAX that the 0 skill pet was not going to level to 50.

Lets get this over and done with (redundant at this point) 0 skill pets do not go to 50 the higher skill pets do however the beastmasters greater pet requires the least amount of points (20) /end thread

so you are saying there's no way to have the tank pet for the elemental tree as a mage at 50?  You have to settle for one of the other pets?  that blows if so.

Wrong there are higher level tank pets but you cannot get them unless you invest in the tree.

    Incredebly stupid idea.

Some of the low teir pets do serve a purpose, and would be nice to have the ability to summon it later on in the game should the situation rpesent itself.

Also, i use the elementalist tree just for the pet summon when solo pve'ing.  This means i have to drop a bunch of points into that tree (which would wreck my build) just to summon a usefull pet later on?

Another blow to the mage class, wich depends on its pet more than any other class.

I don't see any other tank pets in the builder.  I see water and air, no other earth ones, unless I'm blind, which is possible.

    • Warriors

Beastmaster - Needs to grab the 21 point talent Greater Primal Companion to keep it going to 50

    • Clercis

Druid - Needs to get to 26 points to keep the Fairy going to 50,or go to 31 points to get the satyr

    • Mages

Necro - Its not properly displayed on the soul calculator, but the 21 point talent Ancient Tomb upgrades your horror into a Skeletal Zealot and your stalwart into a Skeletal Knight which go to 50
