If you're not playing an MMORPG simply because of the graphics you're playing for all the wrong reasons.

Gameplay over graphics....first time, every time.

    +1

Not? I think you meant -not. It sounds as if you mean something else.

The graphics draw me in (ooh shiny). Gameplay (whatever you want to boil this one to) is what keeps me around.

While this may appear logical at first blush, there are several games that were released prior to 2011 that in the ensuing years have received graphical updates which have superior graphics to what RIFT is launching with...

...RIFT graphics are pretty good for a DX9 game.  From the low render option for bare min systems to the low->ultra regular options for regular systems, RIFT offers a pretty decent slew of choices.  Even for regular systems, going from Low to Ultra shows a vast difference in how the game appears.

...but there is no DX10 client.  Thus, RIFT's graphics cannot really compare with those games that have both a DX9 and DX10 client.  It can compete with those DX9 clients, but it pales when compared to the DX10 clients.

It will be interesting to see if Trion attempts to support the breadth of graphical settings involved in their low render option on through a DX10 client...given that DX11 has been floating around since early 2009.

Course, I do not have a DX11 card - just an old DX10.1...

For some reason, this made me think of the following:

I can agree with this, but there are borders on how bad graphics can be though. But yeah gameplay is way more important. And if the game has both that is awesome!

To an extent, I'm having trouble seeing the need to separate graphics and gameplay.  Graphics are a part of gameplay.  It is like saying that what you see on the screen in a movie is separate from the story.  The two together are what creates the experience.  It appears that quite a few people have stated something along these lines in the various graphics threads we have had of late.

People want both graphics and gameplay.  They want the full entertainment experience.

I Wouldnt really know if the graphics are good or not seeing as i have to have everything at the lowest setting possible..

I Run wow perfectly with highest settings same with Aion and same with all my shooting games, Its just rift.. My computer for some reason cant handle it.. Ive updated my graphics card and everything that needed updating and its still runs slow as hell with everything set to lowest..

Is there anything i need to do to make it run smoother? Dont say i need a new G-card coz that aint an option for me

RIght now i have HD 4550 I know its not the best of cards but it runs everything else perfectly

I tried out the 'low quality renderer' just out of interest, and the graphics were still better than WoW.

If your computer isn't able to handle it, you're going to be disappointed with any new game. Don't slap Rift because of this.

I play on a 2 year old laptop on near ultra settings. I only had to lose the shadows to get consistantly good framerate.

of all the complaints I put the least amount of credibility into this. the graphics are nice. there not top notch becuase then it would make game laggy as hell but defiantly a high B low A.
