Lineage 2: High Five Update Interview

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Lineage II was patched earlier this week with the High Five update that promises practically a new game for players. MMORPG.com Lead Writer Bill Murphy recently caught up with Lineage II development director Steve Chae to talk about High Five. Check out the interview and then let us know what you think in the comments below.

MMORPG: This “High Five” update for Lineage II is promising a whole slew of new stuff for Lineage II. For gamers who might have stepped away from the game for a while, or those who just haven’t heard, can you give us an overview of what we can expect from High Five?

Steve Chae: We made the High Five update based on the feedback we received from our players on what they really wanted to see added or improved in Lineage 2. You can see the full list of enhancements coming with High Five on our website.

Never even tried the game. I do hear quite some good stuff about it though. Not sure why I haven't tried the game yet.

Yeah I played L2 during beta and got to the upper 60s after months of time. In other games I could have had multiple max level characters with the amount of time I spent on L2. Though it was a fun game and had my favorite pvp set up ever, this game requires an insane amount of time and dedication to keep up. If it wasn't like this I probably would return just for the amazing PvP system alone

do people even play this game any more? I thought it died years ago? I tryed the trial a few months back and no one was on at all...immedietly uninstalled.

Thats because you were in the newbie zone on a wrong server - you'll find a fair amount of players online now ( fair amount = enought for daily mass pvp..)

I love MMO`s - why dont they love me?

They forgot the most important thing in the interviews. Leveling is MUCH easier now. I played Lineage2 in retail, and it took a month+ to get to level 2x. Now you can get to 40+ in just a day if you do it right. For brand new players, 40+ will come in about a week.  I had to quit playing in retail and played in high rate private servers, but have recently activated new accounts with my roommate.

We've been playing for 2 weeks now. He has a 52 DA, I have a 52 Slh, and a 53 WCer. There are now supplied buffs all the way to level 76, and they even give you free gear up to level 52. There are new daily instances called "Kamaloka" which take ~20 minutes and give you a full level and some drops.

Needless to say, my roommate and I are really enjoying ourselves; and we haven't even gotten into the PvP yet. But they have curved the game so well that it is actually possible for us to catch up to the people that stuck with it for the last 7 years. With the grand olympiad changes, PvP arenas are looking to be a lot of fun. You use to need years of leveling to even get noblesse and participate in oly. You still wouldn't  win rewards though. Now, you can get to 75 in just a couple months and start participating right away, because they negated the need for a level 75 subclass to become a noblesse. Now you can become a noblesse without a sub, just by participating in the fortress battles on saturdays.

This update brings a ton of content. Easier leveling, better party exp, more raid bosses, easier raid bosses with hard modes, new cloaks, some top gear has had level requirement lowered. With all the PvE and PvP content already in the game, it's amazing they are still able to bring fulfilling patches. The best part is, there are TONS of new players and even returning players around. I started up again a couple weeks ago, and just running through town I can already see a major difference in population.

If you have not played the game recently you have no idea how much it has changed. Lineage 2 will always be a grind type game but its much much less of a grind then what it use to be.

I take it you have never played an older mmo? There isn't a mass amount of new players, or new characters even, since everyone who is playing has been playing for a long time. They are all out leveling, pvping, or selling in giran. Once you get past the starter area, you will end up seeing quite a few people. You can go get a free teleport to giran from the gatekeeper since I'm pretty sure they are free until level 20 now? Then load in that town and tell me it's dead.
