My favs are necro/archon, purifier/warden/sentinel, ranger/bard, and pyro/ele
Yes I have a dream And its not some MLK dream for equality. I wanna own a decommissioned lighthouse And I wanna live at the top And nobody knows I live there. And theres a button that I can press, and launch that lighthouse into space.
The best 'idea' I could give is for you to appreciate that the answer has changed every beta event, and that you should do something crazy like try them out for yourself
I'm loving Warden/Sentinel/Purifier... straight up full-blown healer/support toon... cuz that's what I like to play. It's slow to solo/quest with because these 3 souls do not have a ton of burst damage... but for Rift-chasing... I am leveling like crazy and getting tons of planar loots.
You will see TONS of people who say "oh this is best!" but considering that each archetype has 8 souls (plus one PvP soul) there really are LOTS of different ways you can roll your toon. Just experiment... that's what I've been doing.
Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level, then beat you with experience.
I have tried dozens of combos and thus far my favorite class for pve and pvp is Sabo/Riftstalker/Marksman.
The problem I had with the Sabo was that even though they do major damage, it takes a while for the damage to build up. When pvp'ing, you could easily die b4 getting off anything meaningful. The Marksman soul allows you to do consistent damage until you build up for a finisher. The Riftstalker soul is basically my defense or my Houdini per say. Laying an Adhesive bomb, then plane shifting gets me out of a jam every time!
When pvp'ing, if the person carrying the "flag" knows what they're doing and doesn't run away from the healer, with my crowd control defense using my bombs and traps, we win 80% of the time.
So far its really good. Good single target damage with Inquisitor, some AOE's when needed with Cabalist and the all important heals with Warden. These are my prefered souls, plan to stick with them when the game launches. Will take time finding a build I'm happy with, i normally go through billions, but the potential from these souls screams out in my opinion.
Using it for both PvP and PvE. In PvP at the moment i generally heal those in need first and if everyones ok i'll start dishing out the damage.

This being the absolute truth. There is no I win build and likely there never will be. Find a class and use this http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html (linked so many times) and work it out. Also the official forums is a much better place to toss around ideas about builds as they have class sub forums basically dedicated to your question literally 2 out of every 3 post ask how good a build is or what builds the best etc etc etc. I would try there.
I tried justicar/cabalist, and the damage of the cabby wasn't enough to provide decent healing. justicar/shaman/druid is going to be very OP, 2 damage shields, 3 mana restoring buffs, tank like defense, healer healing abilities, while doing very good melee damage at the same time. It's going to be insane. But sadly I can't bring myself to play a mallet swinger, I hate the look of the cleric weapons.
Basically with the talents of shaman and druid, along with the utility abilities, you just have a few justicar attacks, making your rotations fairly simple, sometimes just one button over and over while you outheal any damage, with some emergency doctrines or shields just in case. Snaring abilities for runners, etc etc etc. So dumb, really wish I could get over not wanting to melee.
I think the chloromancer is more my speed, the healing from lifegiving veil is much better than the justicar's buff. Combine it with elementalist to increase your damage and give you a pet, and once you slap synthesis on him, he's about unkillable. Your options for actual damage dealing are limited to a few cooldowns and one spammable, but hey it still ain't bad. One button to heal an entire raid 75% of the time, can't complain. At the very least it's probably the sturdiest solo build you can have.
Ranger/marksman gives you a pet and some strangely good aoe damage, and really is just plain fun. May switch to this at the last second, but I keep coming back to wanting a healer.
For yet another powerful cleric, this time dps, there's 51 inq, 2-3 druid, 12-13 purifier. Gives you 2 instant damage shields, a pet for a while, some healing, and good dps. Inq is one of those trees that needs 51 points to really shine for it's 35% bonus to damage. Hmm now I find myself tempted back to that. So hard.
Only calling I don't care about are warriors, and I've heard they have some of the most OP combinations, supposedly beastmaster/riftblade or somesuch.
I rarely play Rogues in MMOs, but I'm loving playing a Riftstalker. Riftstalker/Bard/Nightblade is a great Rogue Tank build with good DPS and fun play dynamics. Riftstalker/Ranger/Nightblade sacrifices some raw HP for the support of a pet. Also adds a nice spammable bow attack instant that can be used on the run to build combo points. Slightly less powerful than the previous build, but great mobility and more situational skill use.
I had fun with Cleric Sentinel/Warden/Purifier. Plays similar to a WAR Archmage.
Also liked Chloromancer/Warlock/Necro, a lot of DoTs and healthy healing based off damage you do. It was a by rote key press type of build though, less dynamic than other classes I tried, but very interesting none the less.
I'm still in the low levels, but right now, warriors seem so much better than rogues and mages. They can dish out similar damage, but have a lot more survivability. I hope this changes at higher levels.
I first tried a couple mages and a couple rogue builds. Then I went with a warrior (riftblade). The dang thing plays like a mage in plate mail, spamming ranged fireballs and killing just as fast, if not faster.
Been killing up to 7 mobs my level at a time with a sentinel/warden build. The build is a pure healing build, so very low on offensive power, but... lol, you are pretty much unkillable like that.
Ohh, so far only tried warrior and cleric past 20. I can say my #1 favourite pve-spec is Reaver, Void knight, (warlord for instances/pala if you think you need even more def/paragon for more solo-goodness). There's really no stopping this build I can easily take on 3-4 same level monsters and come out of the fight with 100% health. You get great aoe self heals with the great 9% on kill heal. In instances you'll just love the spammable ranged aoe aggroskills and great taunts.
For the really big solotarget instancebosses I think Paladin wins in tanking capability but his aoe skills come so late and have higher cooldowns.
I hate how squishy warriors are in pvp. Unless you can have a healer with you at all times your survivability=0. Otherwise Champion based build really rocks with uber high hits, stuns and snares.
For Clerics...well I think everything has been said in previous posts. You have 3 totally different base specs: ranged(aoe), melee support healing, tanking and just dedicated healing. Of course you can mix them around and have even bigger pool of choosing. It's great 1 class can be so divert.
Marksman/Bard/Sabotuer and Nightblade/Bard/Sabotuer as well. The 18% dex bonus ffrom saboteur is hard to pass up for a rogue and bard just has great buffs. The rogue archetypes in general are pretty awesome to be honest. The rogue riftstalker tank is pretty fun!
I'm loving the variety of responses. The number of combos is incredible and even builds combining the same three souls can play very differently. I've really noticed that playing around with different roles on my Rogue. Even moving 2-4 points from one place to another can really change the way the class plays. Love it.

I personally like a pyro/elementalist build and I can do crazy damage.
Cleric calling
For solo PVE I have build a Justicar/Shaman and its fantastic. nonstop killing and can take up to 3 at once.
for PVP I like to heal and Warden/Sentinel is just awesome.
My favs are necro/archon, purifier/warden/sentinel, ranger/bard, and pyro/ele

Depends... what's yer play style?

So far druid/shaman is my fav mixxed with either purify or warden for heals.
this mix gives great up close and personal damage with a mix of survivablity options.
Second would be Beastmaster/champion/paragon.
This mix is all about pouncing on targets and doing max damage in a steady quick way.
Third is the ranger/marksman/sabotour.
He is all about blow stuff up and shooting while pet keeps targets at a distance.
Inquisitor/Cabalist/Warden

Forgot to mention Bard/Marksman
Fantastic combo I love it. Can solo very well and excellent support in Rift groups and warfronts.
There is a soul combo for every situation and play style. The beauty is finding yours.

I'm having a blast with the Marks/Sin/NB,far away or up close i can get ya.
The following statement is false
The previous statement is true
ranger/bard/sab for me. Primary points in ranger, secondary in bard, no points in sab (I took it for the AoE slow).

I tried just about every combo of souls for every class and there is one that I love above the rest.
Bard/Ranger/Rift
Heals? Check.
DPS? Check.
Pet? Check.
Teleport/Blink? Check.
OP? Check.

Bard/Nightblade/Riftstalker, with that I focus on max healing and survivability.
