Just wanted to start a discussion on Rifts sound, I think it has the best sound in MMO's but I rarely see it discussed, what are your thoughts on the sounds of Rift.
playing: Dragon Age Waiting: for FF14, Mass Effect Want to try: Fallen Earth
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
I would have to agree. The sound isn't up to par with most mmo's IMO.
I'm not sure if right now in beta if they are just stand in sounds for now... maybe to lower download size? I don't know.
There is no music repeats that I have noticed, as in you enter an area you hear the music and never hear it again unless you leave the area/zone and come back (Take the Sanctum for example).
The combat music is by far the worst music of the game lol, sounds like an old super nintendo game.
There are still alot of sound glitches also. You can turn down the sounds all the way and some still blast your speakers. So that's one thing I noticed.
This is a good discussion though and should be brought up to the dev's ... because believe it or not sound and music in MMO's can really emerse you into the game ... which is why I'm very interested in SWTOR, from what I have heard already it's simply amazing. So sound is very important (IMO).
Great discussion though... would like to see some more comments on this.
Maybe iam a little overextending in my claim. I am coming from AION which i think is the worst sound in MMOS, i really think the sound works well with everything, i dont know the technical aspact of sound all I can comment on is the relation betrween the sound I hear and what I see, and in Rift it relates well.
During Rifts the sound does its job to increase the intensity of its environment in the context of the event (rift) when it ends the music is more peaceful and you go about your business knowing you cleared an invasion from you area.
This is just 1 example

The sound is not one of it's selling points IMO.
