Well when the servers arnt in meltdown mode, well off peak hours, its a pretty fun crafting game.

But thats all its really going to be for a very long time.  Had i known this i probably would have held off as well.

I can deal with a few weeks of lag, but theres only 4 killable critters, they are very very rare (racoons, bears, coyotes, and deer i think) theres limited weapons, very limited, and the combat system is suppose to be a place holder.  Also theres a couple systems related to crafting not yet in the game.  So right now, its a good crafting game with Mortal Online style "nothing to kill and a poor combat system"

However the crafting and "survival" aspect is pretty fun.

To be honest, my choice was this or Rift.  If im gonna be bored a month into a game i might as well waste my money on developers looking to do something other than the standard fantasy mmorpg.

I also wish the apocolypse scenario was more like Fallen Earths.  Seems like modern civilization went *poof* overnight.  Gone are guns, buildings, trucks and cars, and all infastructure...but cloth survived... Feels more like a pristine nature setting more than a post apocolypse setting.

But it is sandbox, and it is fun when the servers are not melting down.  But dont think this is some FFA full loot pvp combat game, its anything but that.  Right now, this is a crafting game, craft what you need, mabey make a tent, your totem is your safe "town" to drop all your stuff (my totem is currently just some stacked piles of unsorted goods, a few baskets, and the totem, as i dont have the tools to make anything structure wise yet)  You can terraform and cut down trees, not like some tree node, but any old tree.  Actually saw someone smart enough to cut a tree down that made for a makeshift bridge, though unessecary, its was interesting.

Noticed you seem to have missed the concept / story behind the how we got to where we are in Xsyon. Here it is from thier homepage (its also in your manual, page 1 I think). I took the liberty of bolding some of the passages that answer your *poof* issue above. Hope this helps.

War has destroyed life as we know it. The Apocalypse is at hand!

Will you fight for justice to stop the chaos or will you join in the ranks of evil to bring upon the ultimate destruction of the earth?

Modern technology has consumed itself. War has ravaged the planet, opening a rift to another reality. The survivors of the grisly destruction rise from the ashes of ruin to encounter a world that has changed. A world that once existed only in the realm of mythology, legend and imagination has become concrete and very real. You have forgotten the past and are welcomed by a new primitive future.

With the disruption of the planet, ancient gods awake to once again exert their powers over the earth. The lords of nature have revived the wastelands, eradicating and subverting the remnants of modern technology. Creatures of mutation and mythology now populate the land. The ways of swords and sorcery have replaced the path of science and progress.

You are a survivor. Your youth was spent lost in times of war. Your memories of the past with its machines, computers, bright lights and buildings reaching for the skies are vague and ever fading, a distant and unreal dream. You grow accustomed to ancient ways that now once again rule the world.

The new world hangs in a moment of uncertainty. Though the rift in reality has called forth many benevolent gods and creatures, this truly is the time of the Apocalypse. The seven seals are about to be broken. The Four Horsemen loom over the land awaiting their chance to spread destruction and chaos. Devils and angels vie for control of their earthly battlefield.

You know nothing. You’ve forgotten the past and have yet to learn the future. You are a lost soul in a strange barren world with little more than the shirt on your back. Little do you know you are destined to become a hero.

Your path is one of choice. Will your actions help heal the planet or will you play a part in its ultimate doom? What will be the destiny of the Xsyon, the promised land?

The future is in your hands.

ugh...dont tell me your in this game now too....

well i expect nitpicking from you.  my point stands, its a FACT i would like the FE syle of an apocolypse.

Its a nice story...would like to know how houses and highways and cars consumed themself, leaving behind a pristine and untouched nature setting, aside froma  few low key junk piles.  I know its only been a year and ive forgotten everything, but still...give me an apocolypse setting if your going to use that theme.

No wreckage, no ruins, all a year after the apocolypse....In fact, without reading that story, you probably would have no idea your dealing with the apocolypse.

its a small point, and wasnt a big deal.... I didnt even realize it was suppose to be 2012 untill someone brought this point up in game....i had figured we were so far into the future that everything had decayed and been overgrown by nature.  I hope future areas show a more realistic apocoliptic setting.  Mabey some wreckage, abandond and destroyed cities, items from the past (despite we wont know how to use them)... Hey were all allowed to wish for things right?

While i do agree with you, under it all, the game is what you want to make of it. not saying you don't like the game etc, saying along the lines of, the background story as you have essentially said "trite at best". I believe they are generally using it as a loose concept to essentially explain why things the way they are. They could of just as easily said the game takes place in like 1100AD or so and it would honestly make sense tilly ou get to the scrap pile aspect.

I think one of the things abotu a sandbox mmo that is set up like this, is that you can kinda make up your own background to the game if you really wanted too, while sure, it is supposed to be an alternate reality type world some gods have transported us to, you can make up whatever story fits best to you.

My take on it follows the loose outline they give us, and elaborate on it with my weird form of common sense. the scrap piles were put there by the 'gods' that transported everyone to this alternate world to help us learn. We find odds and ends from a life that the memory of have been taken away such as those plastic bats you find.

Could also think of it as a cruel joke gods are playing on the rest of humanity to see who is the best survivor etc. sky is essentially the limit. However tenuous the background story we have been given is, it is up to us to elaborate on what they've provided. The memories of the past have been stolen from us, we wake up in a world that is familiar, yet not. It is missing the trappings our brains tell us it SHOULD have, and as those memories of our now forgotten past slowly fade into mythology and campfire tales, we learn our new way of life, we learn to survive and thrive (or turn the accessable world into a warzone if you want) but it's on us to do so.

    ramble over.

oh, and think about it. No matter how tenuous the background they give us may be, think about it.. is it really the worst we've heard as an explanation for something? purple horned aliens crashing on a planet with no advanced weaponry ring a bell?

No i realize all of this.  However, a recent apocolypse, that destroyed everything, seems to have been quite selective in doing so, leaving behind what looks to be a completely untouched world (aside from a few low key junk piles).

I dont know, was hoping for more apocolypse, less nature walk i guess. Like i said, its not a big deal, and they still havent relased a majority of the map.  I was just hoping to see more apocolypse and less read about it and imagine how everything could dissapear so quickly with no trace.  I mean if it all turned to ashes, like the story states, there should be some pretty wicked craters and scars in the landscape.

Its definitly missing that apocolypse touch and feel that i love so much.  Things are just too pretty.  I just hope that after the prelude we get to see some of the leftover carnage of the apocolypse.

And im not suggesting they should add mad maxx vehicles and guns like FE, though finding wrecked and melted cars to harvest metal scraps from would be nice.  All we get now is one coverall junkpile node.  And those are more or less a hard to notice reminance of a civilization that isnt going to go poof in a year, without some crazy leftovers.

It feels more "your a caveman" less "your a survivor of an apocolypse"

Strange no one else here feels at least a little bit like i do in this...oh well

    *edit*

i do see wrecked cars, tires, ect in some of the screen shots they uploaded on this site...so mabey its all comming later?

i do get where youa re comign from, and i honestly do kind of agree. i would love for when they do the pullbacks of fog to expand the map to end up uncovering little pockets of leftover ruins or whatnot here and there. i can accept that these benevolent gods or whatnot have essentially cleaned up an area for us to kinda start civilization over again, but yes.. i would like to see a couple old ford crown vic's burned out by the side of a broken 2ndary road or something here and there. another cool addition would be caves and such in the mountains, maybe some old mines or whatnot. I think it would be cool to not so much only be able to claim a piece of land and build off it, but also be able to find and explore old mines, claim them for your tribe/self and set up shop. can branch out more of a mining type skillset to which you are able to slowly start collecting more precious metals for when the junk piles eventually run out. Mine iron or even find gold and silver, copper etc to use in making stronger alloys for weapons and tools, or hell, let us make the mines ourselves since it's a sandbox game. now that would be really cool, people could stake claims in the mountains and such and develop bunker like tunnel systems and whatnot. yes i know i'm kinda delving off into a minecraft segment, but why wouldn't that type of thing in itself fit in with how they have the game already? make it so you don't just take a pick and knock down some rock and voila you have a cave. hell no, make it so you actually have to transport the rock out and everything it actually entails. want some form of lighting in that cave? learn to make some torches, and then possibly craft oil lamps to use. let people scavenge stuff to produceoil. you can burn animal fat for oil lamps as well. with all the junk piles, i'm sure you could easily find some sort of oil or whatnot to serve as a fuel source. add individual types of stuff to the crafting to be able to make beds and whatnot to put in these caves etc so you can make bunk rooms or whatnot and then you can even add a sleep cycle to the game.

yes taking out time to sleep would be annoying in some regards, but you wouldn't make it like a full on 8 hour sleep cycle. make your energy reserve only replenish so much each in game day, if you go over it, then you have to take a nap, not lay down wherever you are for 25seconds. yes resting would give you energy back, but only to a certain point until your body is too tired to really benefit from it. if you spend an entire day running across country, or scavenging and crafting, at some point your body is goign to tell you that you need sleep etc, so make it like a full 2min sleep cycle in game or something. gives players something to set their char doing when they need to go to the bathroom or grab a drink etc in rl. they have hunger and thirst and fatigue already in game, so why not add an actual sleep cycle as well? or would that be a little too realistic for some? just throwing out ideas as they come to me.

Like i said, its a small thing, and we only have access to a tiny part of the map, so who knows.  I do see some wrecked cars int he screen shots here.  But yeah, had i walked into this game expecting the apocolypse or post apocolypse, i would confused at what i was seeing in lake taho.

The whole fun of the post apocolyptic world is looking at all the signs of past carnage, wreackage to salvage, and ruins to explore.  Makes RPing the "your clueless as to what it is" is fun, digging up a computer and going WTF is this would be nice is all.

Hahaha, funny part is, I has been in this game fo months. Longer than I has an account on MMORPG.COM even. And that wasn't nit pickin at all, your post simply stated you thought the world seemed to just *poof* into existance as is. And I was just trying to be helpful and show you that you were absolutely correct, it did *poof* into existance. Oh and I was kinda also trying to show you the reason why there was no guns or cars or microwave ovens.

No need to worry bout me in Xsyon, I'm not the same in game as I am on forums. Forums are meant to be fun places to communicate on. Games are meant to be places ot have fun in. Besides, you done already met me several times in game, you even told me thanks for my help even. ;)

    Welcome to Xsyon!
