When reading a lot of criticism here about Rift, the impression may be that it is a bad game. If you actually play the game, you will see that the general impression is very positive, worth the hype, and the people in the game in the chat etc are very impressed. There is still a long road ahead, things will need to continue to be balanced etc  - like any game, it will be evolving.

I tried Rift myself (open beta wil still be running for another few days, open to all) and the game is awesome. It works great, especially for an about-to-be-released game. I played many different MMORPG, I liked WoW the most, and I should say this game makes me forget about WoW. Not because it is different (it is in a someways, similar in others) - it does belong to the same genre as WoW - but it has all the good stuff from WoW and WAR with improvements in many areas with completely different looks, story, and dungeon/raid style.

My general impression of these forums is that mostly negative information makes it here, the good/positive imformation is much biased against. It is understandable, people who are happy are much more likely to just log on to the game and play rather than come here and share their happiness all over these forums. People who are upset/have grief, however, have nothing better to do. I think that if someone is on the fence and want to quit playing a game or not start due to real life issues, the majority of posts in these forums are great for that purpose.

I must say that I'm indeed very pleased of RIFT after playing the Open Beta. I had tested the game during the early Alphas and I didn't like it back then. Now the game really feels ready for release.

Also, this time, from day 1, there will be end game content.

All I can say is ... if you haven't tried it and are looking for a game, try it now you still can and make it up for yourself. Thats the best way.

I have to agree with the OP, but I am not the least bit surprised that the negative comments are making it to the forum.  Whether it's because the players that are enjoying the game are still logged in and don't post; or the old fact that negative experiences have a stronger motivational effect then positive ones.

Regardless, thanks for taking a second for a postive comment.

Yeah well... I'm guessing it's the case where the one's who like Rift are all playing and the rest are crying on the forums. Personally, I'm just here to take a break from a crazy open beta rampage. Played pretty much all day, every day and been staring at healthbars too long. :) I'm thinking on calming down now and maybe joining back once the early start begins. Don't want to burn myself out.

Oh and I guess I need to give extra attention to my wife candidate so she leaves me alone once 24th comes. :D

I posted a thread saying this game was nothing new. :p

    That comment still holds up.

I'm going to be playing Rift, though. It's just kinda fun with the Public Quest-esque events constantly etc etc.

i think, that the most people, who like rift and are still active in the forum don't bother to post something about it, because they will get bashed anyway by the people who dont like the game, because they are the majority in the forum while the rift fans are playing. at least im feeling like this

Played yesterday.  It was a good solid experience.  The graphics are stunning, the art direction grew on me after a few hours, and the gameplay (along with the UI) was ok.  I think they could have done a bit more with the quests, but I do appreciate the fact they tried to utilize different components to make sure it stayed fresh.  Made it to level 7.  (Yes, I play slowly, taking my time, wandering around, looking at statues and clothing styles, etc.)  The best thing I found was the character profession skill tree.  Awesome!  As for the character models, they are good, which to me, is vital.

All this said, I've played EQ. EQII, Vanguard, Eve, PotBS, AoC, GW, DAoC, DDO, LotRO, and now Rift.  And while I've found enjoyable things in all these games, I've never found the "one."  I play till about 30th level, have fun doing solo and group content, then get bored and leave.  And for me, I think it has to do with there being little or no personal story arc in these games, and very little need for interaction.  It has always amazed me the designers have not tried to meld, say Dragon Age and an MMO.  Then throw in games people play with one another, chess, checkers, cards, darts, etc. and imho, you'll have yourself a winner.

But, as for Rift, good game, fun to play, and something I will enjoy for the next six months to a year.  Well done programmers!

I've seen good post on these forums but they get beat to death by fanboys, So I think people just stopped posting.

I'll be playing, love the game.

It's a simple fact. Haters or anyone upset with a product will post to express their displeasure. Those that have a great experience don't take the time to share it in most cases, and it's a shame as they should.

It will be the best mmo on the market when released. So many things to do and the game is well polished. The bad thing for them is that once GW2 and TOR releases the population in this game will be decreased by alot. For the meantime , if anyone wants to play a solid mmo Rift is the best choice by far.

Test the game for yourselves folks.

Don't listen to the one sided black and white arguments. Not all of you have to like the game or fully think it's a god send. Play it for yourself and form your own thoughts and opinions.

And no this will not be the best MMO to release on the market after beta is over. If there is anything history can teach us it's this. If vast majority of people who are casual gamers don't like or play it, then the game will be for a niche market like Darkfall, Mortal Online, and so forth. Stop with the over hyping the black and white arguments, of your on are sides or your on theirs. Everyone's entitled to enjoy the game how they see fit and choose to play it or not.

I am going to agree with the OP also. If any of you have ever seen my recent posts I have always hated any MMO that isn't WoW.

I played the first Rift beta for less than an hour and it was alright. After a month I decided to give it another go during the Open Beta and after several hours of quests, exploration and Rift sealing I started to enjoy the experience. The game is a grind like most MMO's out there but it is a fun grind. You have plenty of things to do and ways to level your toon. If you want to take a break from questing you can PvP or join Rift groups or instances and still gain experience. Rifts aren't scarce either and if you happen to be online during a large scale Invasion you can score some pretty nice rewards for how much participation you put in.

So just yesterday I made my final decision and preordered Rift which as of now is my WoW alternative. It has what I enjoyed from WoW and many other games all rolled into one very polished and stunning game.

Oh and if you're still on the fence about preordering due to not wanting to invest into a game from a new developer, hit this link for a nice 15% discount (the 20% is a typo). And no I am in no way affiliated with rift junkies. I happened to find that discount and used it to save some money. http://www.riftjunkies.com/2011/01/29/save-20-when-you-pre-order-rift/#more-3669

Direct2Drive has a weekend sale for any game including Rift versions for 20% off. You use the code "hailtothechief" during the purchase process. No typographical error either.

I like the game enough to preorder it. I haven't made it that far into the game though. I've mainly just ran several characters through the starter area, and one guy through several quests after the starter area. I haven't done any rifts aside from the one in the tutorial, no warfronts, or instances. However, they all sound similar to WoW and WAR, and I liked those features in those games. The class system is what really pushes me over the edge. The ability to play any combination of soulds (up to 3) on one character is awesome. I've played other multi-class systems in other MMORPG's, and I appreciate the variety it offers.

One con about Rift is that you go through the same starting area on all characters of the same faction. I'm not sure about after the starting area. So basically, if I was a solo player, the game wouldn't have much replayability for me, since I get sick of quests the first time around, much less the 2nd to 4th time around. Luckily I love instances, PvP, and public quest type systems, so rerolling won't be as much as a problem.

I'll also be playing Rift with my guild from VG.  I won't be there for launch, just don't like the mass rush and fighting for mobs on launch week ;)  Also hope racials get another pass because some are just /facepalm ;)

Its actually funny that people think of the negative threads on rift as trolling.

On the other hand, you can find  more than 1000 comments saying: "rift is polished". People are actually trying to state what they don't like about the game(because they just dont like it for their own reasons) and the answer everyone is getting from the fanboys is : "Yeah, but rift is polished."

We know right!? Stop replying with the same answer in every single post.We also played the game,we know its polished, but this game just isn't apealing to everyone.Seriously its like Trion brainwashed their customers. Can't take it anymore.

I just hope that people can understand the difference between certain balance issues and class designs... I also hope that the devs do not cave in ala blizzard to the player base when X class can't kill Y class and everyone goes crying to them and to everyone else.  Problem with MMO's today and the player base that has just recently started playing is that they never got the chance to experiance well thought out designs for certain classes being able to rip through other classes.  Perfect example is DAoC... how many times did I see nightshades popping up quickly destroying our casters... way we started dealing with it?  We started dressing our clerics up like casters and nailing them with the instant mez's!! But I also watched our casters sit back and destroy plenty of other classes... Good times and well thought out team work and gameplay is what people need to understand.

Like I said that is my biggest fear.  It is nice to see casters being able to put out a lot of damage and also be delt with pretty quickly.  I just hope people understand the concept and do go running wondering why their rogue can't always destroy a warrior or being able to rip right through a cleric.

If you want to read the real comments on what people think and feel about this game, DONT READ THEM HERE!!!!!!

Go to the rift forums and you will find better info on the game.

I had to laugh at some of the comments on here about fanboys and haters, just because people dislike or like a game they get blasted it just don't make any sense.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions for sure so why all the grief???

I have written many things about this game and like I have said I will not be playing it due to the fact it's far to easy with little penalty which gamers these days seem to demand. For me it's just Wow in clean socks.

I have recently returned to the progressive server of EQI and it was so refreshing to listen to the mature community on there even though the game is dated and even grindier than it used to be it was a real pleasure to watch OOC, unlike these forums which seem to have two factions calling each other idiots because of their feeling towards certain titles.

I too have been playing the EQ progressive server, and while fun and nastaglic, I can't help but to think of the graphics and logical inconsistencies.  And believe me when I say this, I have had fun.  I enjoy the difficulty, the people, and most of all, the pacing.  You can't just fly through it, because if you do, you die.  Period.  You sit back, con, run away, think, wait, and then attack.  This is not the case for any new MMO.  Also, in the progressive server, there are a lot of things they got right, but also a lot they got wrong.

That leads me to Rift.  I still have to say, as I said before, it is well polished and fun.  If I ruled the world I would slow down the pace a bit, but that's just mho.  So perhaps Bandit, try looking at it with a different set of glasses.  It might not be as bad as you think.  I've noticed nothing but mature ooc posts on the RP server, kind helpful people, and a stylish game that has worked hard at being polished.

Completely agree.  I see these stupid comments all over this site.  They feel ensecure about the long term success of the game they are currently obessesing over and in order for them to really feel comfortable about the game, they have to destroy one they can't seem to ever get rid of.

If anything they should be going to therapy in order to learn how to move on from one thing to the next in their life without the need to murder it for closer.
