Hi, i currently quit playing LineageII and i wanna get back into Scifi and im looking into SWG.
I read the forums on here and it seems like somany people talk Bad about this game but they keep making somany post! Why do you keep posting if you dont like this game do you work for EvE online or something Is this game realy that bad? Ive played EvE and dont like the politcis and i realy want to try this game soon before Tubla Rasa comes out .
Comments
A lot of people have a lot of negative things to say because of the way that SoE (the company that produces SWG) implemented the new Combat Upgrade. They really, honestly, could not have found worse ways to roll it out to live if they had tried to. As a result a very large number of very dedicated veteran players got shafted very badly despite the loyalty they'd shown the game over a period of years.
Imagine having a very bad breakup with someone you'd been dating for a few years because he suddenly got a sex change without asking you about it, and you get an idea of the kind of animosity I'm trying to describe.
This is being compounded and prolonged by a very loud group of very young, immature people who react to the anti-CU lamenting by personally attacking the detractors rather than letting them cry it out and let it go as they would if people would just leave them alone or try to help them come back if it's at all possible. So the wounds stay fresh, the negative comments still keep being posted, the flame stays hot and painful and people have a harder time sharing good, useful information about the game and how to get around the bugs and massive changes made to the game.
The whole thing is very silly, completely counterproductive and really needs to end.
Having said that, welcome to the SWG forums at MMORPG.com. Please don't let the kids and the mourners scare you. Feel free to ask some questions and some of us will actually try to give you some solid answers so you can figure out whether or not to give the game a go.
And no. If you're not one of the people who's played SWG for more than a year, it's not that bad. It's in a rocky transitional phase right now, but there's still a lot of good things if you get some help and learn how to work around the bugs till they get fixed.

The reason a lot are bitching is they took the macro out of starwars. The only real reason i see to complain is crafters who had a huge stock of iteams built up to sell reallly got shortend of stick now that they half to restalk all there vendors. I like the cu so much I have whent back to starwars full time myself after leaving the game 10 months ago.
I think a lot of people play beyond the time they should.
Some of the flames that you read have valid points, like consistent bugs and inbalances. I would pay attention to at least some of those in making your decision.
By your forum signature, it looks like you have EQ2. You could upgrade your accout to the total access pass. That would somewhat mitigate the monthly fees. The reason I say this is only playing SWG for the initial 30 days most likely won't give you a good feel for the game and community.

Oh, cruel fate, to be thusly boned. Ask not for whom the bone bones. It bones for thee.
Now i understand thanks alot for your post. Well this dosent concern me that much because i have not played it before but Ive read threads that say wait until other expansions or packages that will be for sale in the future but i dont realy want to i rather get whats out now. What would you recommend azharan and what server do you play on?
Well, I couldn't help but notice your sig pic is an EQ2 character. I assume you enjoyed the game because of that. If you enjoyed either EQ2 or EQ classic, I'd say it's a pretty safe bet that you'll at least kind of like SWG as it stands now. ESPECIALLY if you're a happy Star Wars fan.
As for the expansions, they are already out. Jump to Lightspeed was out before I started playing and Rage of the Wookies came out very recently, though I haven't had the chance to pick that one up yet. If it's available in your area, I recommend just going straight for the Total Experience pack which has the game and both expansions for much less than you'd pay for them seperately. The reality being that even if you end up not sticking with the game, the whole mess will cost you less than a decent dinner and movie date (which only gives you one night's entertainment).
I will warn you that the current version on the servers IS very buggy and that there are numerous issues with balance, but these CAN be gotten around with help from people who are already getting used to it and know how to deal with the more annoying problems.
I would recommend starting on the Naritus server, as it has a growing and more stable population than the other servers I have tried, with a nice mix of helpers, vets, noobs, RPers and it boasts a very robust and stabilized economy as the Naritus guilds seem to have taken much better care of their crafters than many galaxies's guilds have in the wake of the CU.
If you do happen to pick up the game and decide to start out on Naritus, I highly suggest contacting Erillion (Novarider or Delos) in game. I can help a little by introducing you to some of my new friends both in YCS (the guild Erillion and I are in) or IBS (another good noob-friendly guild I hunt with frequently). In game, I'm Noobia. (LOL)

Cool, i dont play Eq2 i like the cig though but i dont know how to get rid of it hehe, i just came from LineageII so i realy like PvP thanks for the info
I am one of the vet players that complained loudly about the CU and cancelled both my accounts.
SOE rolled the cu out pratically untested and loaded with bugs. I was a test center player and it was bad, but the real cu is 100x worse as far as bugs go. It is a totally new game that I chose not to accept. New players that dont have any experience with the old game dont know what thier missing, so Its hard for them to know why the cu was such a shake up for us.
I hope anyone that tries it likes it or loves the game as much as I used too.
My only advice is stay away from the heavier populated servers. I was on Azazi. 2 nights ago I went on and gave away all my belongings and credits to other players. I havent realy spent any time on since the CU but didnt want to see the spoils of my last 18 months go to waste, which is why I gave it all away. I wa amazed at how much lag there still is. Its gotten worse than ever and there werent many players on. I was rubberbanding anytime I got on a swoop something awful and crashing tp desktop most of the time when trying to shuttle. I have a fast PC with plenty of ram and prior to the cu I didnt have these problems near as bad as I didnt 2 nights ago. From chatting with others, this seams to be the norm now....and yet they continue to pay for the crappy servers. The sickness continues.
