My experience with mmorpg's as made me realise one thing about the mmorpg genre as a whole, will there ever be a mmorpg that everyone likes and dosn't crisiticise it for the smallest thing.
I beomce fed up of hearing that certain mmorpg's are 'out of this world' 'the ultimate of all mmorpg's' and my favourite 'this game will blow u away' haha.
Sadly most games don't blow me away these days, maybe my standards are to high. I'm not fully sure but why do mmorpg developers keep messing with thier games for the worst, my prime example being Star Wars Galaxies. That game took all my time when i started playing it when it was realised in Europe. Even with the bad bugs, the bad lagg in cities from time to time and the many other bugs it shipped out with, but like many i knew they still loved it for the first couple of months. Now i see they have changed so much stuff within the game and it's terrible......in fact its a DISASTER, have SOE lost it......whats with the new combat update, it's like EQ2 but it doesn't suit SWG and the game was better with the Star Wars KOTOR type combat. I was sad to see hardly anyone playing the game anymore.
in my view there will never be an ultimate mmorpg in my life time, although i'm only 17. Every individual gamer who plays mmorpg will find a fault about everygame released, i'm no different as the problems of each mmorpg bug me so much i can't enjoy playing it. This is why I have decided to leave all mmorpgs alone, i'm not in the mood to pay monthly for a game i trully don't enjoy.
WoW may appeal to me again in future months because i like the sounds of battleground but my experience with certain players on the rp realms have been disapointing especially when an elf spends nearly an hour offending my Gnome character anyway possible, although i did report him nothing happened.
Well at least I have got it off my chest, i think i feel better now.......Time to go play Day of Defeat i think......
Thank You for readings.....thats if you did

The ultimate MMORPG would prolly cost a few times what the cheapest successfull MMORPG cost.
However, they would need to allow a HUGE freedom to players, so they play only the aspect they enjoy in the game...at the price of only developping that aspect(not a clumsy overall level that make you better at everything).
It will need a decent way to protect old content from ever becoming obsolete...yes new content is better, in newer zones...not in old zones!

Unless there was some sort of massive collaboration from developers of pretty much all the MMORPG's out there, even including MUD's I don't ever expect a "Ultimate" MMORPG.
The main problem is that everyone has a different opinion of what is and is not a good game.
For example, I personally feel Earth and Beyond was the best MMORPG I have ever played in over a decade of playing MUD's and MMOG's, however, Im sure there will be many many people out there that would think that saying Earth and Beyond was the best ever is a insane comment.
And for them, that comment may be right.
Personally Im not much of a PvP person, yet I do enjoy the occasional one vs one or group battle...so something like EVE would never be tops in my books, while to others it may be the greatest thing since sliced bread.
For a single game to contain enough content to keep every single player satisfied in all aspects is more or less unthinkable.
I to was a world of warcraft player for a time, however, I to left it. Not for reason of anything within the game as far as game mechanics goes, or content wise, as much as the lack of a real community.
As just about any WoW player who has frequented the official forums could confirm WoW has one of the worst community's (if it could be called a community) out of just about any MMORPG on the market.
Now while it may not bother some, to others like myself it was enough to push us away from the game, so there is yet another reason there will most likely never be a "Ultimate" MMORPG, people simply have different opinions on what is and is not acceptable for a pay-to-play service.
it'a not possible to have an 'ultimate' in any type of entertainment.
this is because everyone has different tastes (for example, some people like fantasy, others sci fi, others like roleplay, others like to be 1337), and if there was an ultimate, we'd all be robots.
Let me explain by using the film industry as an example, that has been around for over 100 years now, and even though most people can agree on one or two films that we all like, we all have our personal favourites. one of my favourite films at the moment is "brazil", and i could argue untill kingdom come that this is is the ultimate film of all time, but its fair to say other people dont like it... and most just havent heard of it.
<Insert siggy here>
There isn't an ultimate, the best by far has to be eve online, just gives soo much freedom and it chnages the rules :P
I belive the ultimate mmorpg will be the most immersive and best sounding/looking like EQ2 promised to hav, but failed
Yes, it is hard to pick "The Ultimate Game." So many people have different opinions on games and it's really impossible to find one ultimate game. I mean if I had to pick one, I'd go with Everquest. Seems to me as a lot of games have based their games on EQ but are never close to being as popular as it was.
*Edit*Wow... Just realized that World of Warcraft is on the top... Are you guys kidding me? Seriously, what makes World of Warcraft the ultimate game? I can't think of a single possible thing that does not make the game just like the rest of the MMORPGs. It's incredibly easy, pvp is a joke, the most repetitive games I've played, and crafting is boring and flawed.
I voted for EQ1. I think most people who are voting for WoW are teens who've only played that game and not the others. Yes it is easy, too many people solo, (in my view mmorpgs are suppose to be about grouping) If more MMORPGS come out and focus on soloing, then I'll just stop playing them and play my PS2.
The Ultamite MMORPG would have to give players ultamite freedom to do what they want, have every feature that other MMO's already have out there, plus thier own features to make the game unique. And would require one heck of a powerful computer to support incredible graphics/sound, gameplay ect.. This would definantly take a long time to make a game like that.
of all the new games coming in the future, Vanguard: Saga of Heroes looks to be the ultimate, in my eyes. but, that's just for me personally. Other people might see something else as the ultimate.
In reality for everyone though, there will never be one true ultimate game, that everyone agrees on.
I played DAoC and WoW the most, but I played a couple weeks of EQ1 and I voted for it as well. Even though I didn't get far in it, I think that right now it is the ultimate game in terms of content, breadth and depth. No game can touch it. You may not like the game mechanics, but it really is the biggest and fullest PvE game.
I personally do not feel that there will ever exist 1 MMO to end all MMO's, when thinking of all player styles, preferences on both gameplay and graphical looks, genre and even musics used, it's pretty easy to figure out why.
I do think however that as we see server and farm technology grow, as we see game development and production grow and as PC technology continues to grow and be more so accepted, we're going to see, as a natural reflex to all that, better quality gaming environments. I feel very positive that we have yet to see the best of what MMORPG's have to offer and believe that time will come quite quickly but then again that may be the optimist in me speaking.
Personally I think right now WoW is at the very top of the heap. Sure it's not great of die hard MMO players and hardcore gamers, but when you think of the sheer accessibility that WoW has offered to a new generation of MMO goers, I think it's a clear indication at just how well Blizzard has done. They have managed to build a game using proven game play, made it look good in it's own unique way and brought to it some innovation, although pretty minimal.
I'm sincerely very excited to see where the genre as a whole is going to go, and think we're getting as close to that "great for everyone" MMO I think alot of us are eagerly waiting for.
Important Information regarding Posting and You
There will never be an ultimate MMO because people have different tastes.
No.
Far too many people will complain about anything, and thus you can never remove criticism from any event in life. Further, you can never create something that everyone likes...it is an impossibility. It is a complete waste of time to bother trying to do so.
No.
Hi all This is my first post so i wish me luck
I am 26 years old and i am playing MMORPGS for 7 years.
Also I am a programmer and use computers since i was pretty young (8 years old)
I always loved hardcore games with depth, and after playing a lot adventure at first then FPS,
strategies took my mind... and then a miracle happened... I Found about RPG's
Imagine later when i ended up learning about MMORPGS as well. So i tried almost all games,
but still it wasnt enough of me, so i wanted something absolute a world that would be completely free and alive.... Then while i was bored of almost all games i saw in less than 1-2 months, i thought it would be a good idea to try something by luck rofl
And imagine.... It was devillish luck i tell u... I met a game which was my dream come true. The perfect MMORPG with total freedom... Lvling is not the only thing that made u strong and if u were smart enough u could advance many playing strategies ... It is an extra hard game and i even tried crafting system on that one... My god it was endless, so many combinations i couldnt even believe and all fully working
So after all these i even changed my gameplay, i turned to a social player and even created my guild....
So i think one person can find the perfect mmorpg, maybe though for some people that choice differs, but the main point is to fullfill u or your friends 100%.
For me that MMORPG it is Saga of Ryzom... I think its the best concept ever created in game programming world and in MMORPG world of course
Thats all i wanted to say... thx a lot for all of u who bothered enough to read all that long letter
I am Kenshiro, leader of Band of the Hawks.... I would love to meet u all inside and show u what a perfect mmorpg really looks like and why Be well my friends and have tons of fun *bow respectfully
I voted for WoW, becuase for me it's an extremely relaxing alternative. Overly immersive games, like EQ and SWG (to an extent), can end up consuming way too much time performing enane tasks. I've stated that WoW is more like a game, while EQ2 is more like an experience.
As for the perfect MMO, I think it's a matter to each his/her own.
