Agree with the Lovecraft part, but I want vampires.  I would love an MMO based on Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines, actually. However, on the Lovecraft longing I have....I think The Secret World is going to fit that bill and I can hardly wait.

Check World of Darkness. That MMO is already in the making.

I voted western. A Sci-Fi Western; think Firefly.

I also would like to see an air combat mmo. A lot of possibilities there. Air pirates, huge zeppelin fortresses. Treasure hunting.

    Something based on this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i23KRvtWLx8

Edit: For all that is good and kind. Please, no more fantasy Mmogs.

Personally I'd love to see a medieval sim/historical based, sandbox MMORPG, however, I could live with a good Sci-fi, Steampunk, or Western.    As long as they were well made sandboxe games, I'd definitely not count out anything though.

    Cyberpunk. Based on Gibson's 'Neuromancer'

Hard sci-fi with nothing even remotely resembling fantasy.  No magic of any kind.  No elves.   I want a bright future, none of this crappy post-apocalyptic, dark, dank stupidity.  Sure, you can have conflict, but I want a future I'd want to actually live in, not one I'd rather slit my wrists than live through.

Played: UO, EQ, WoW, DDO, SWG, AO, CoH, EvE, TR, AoC, GW, GA, Aion, Allods, lots more
Relatively Recently (Re)Played: HL2 (all), Halo (PC, all), Batman:AA; AC, ME, BS, DA, FO3, DS, Doom (all), LFD1&2, KOTOR, Portal 1&2, Blink, Elder Scrolls (all), lots more
    Now Playing: None
    Hope: None

I'm starting to rethink my original steampunk vote, somewhat along these same lines. I just finished replaying Dreamfall earlier, and it made me REALLY want to play in a well-done, modern setting. It's somewhat humorous that the game that stands to best provide that kind of experience is another game made by the same company as Dreamfall, The Secret World by funcom.

Regardless, the one thing we really don't need are more fantasy MMORPGs. Unfortunately, Trion didn't get the memo in time. ^-^

I chose sci-fi but would love to have a true zombie MMO - moreso sandboxed type of gameplay due to the elements of survival and trying to create a new world to live in (such as camps, forts and other areas to try and stay at).

I personally had enough of the fantasy setting - honestly it has been done to death now and even if a game that is great comes out and is fantasy setting, i wont touch it - sci-fi / post apoc / steampunk / horror - something that is unique or different from your elves and dwarfs sword and shield like games in the woods and forests would be great.

MmMMm zombie MMO...that would so be popular if done right - actually surprised there isnt one out already, or in the works (i know the undead labs but thats consoles though, and will have limitations due to that).

WW2 would be great. I know there is one out at the moment but it looks like it is very old and doesn't look very appealling tbh.

Also an Assassin's Creed MMO would be great too :D

Cyberpunk, as long as it's not shadowrun. Having played that game system enough, there are too many things that were bad ideas from the get go and I'd imagine it would be hard to divorce the system mechanics from the flavor enough to fix them, and honestly a lot of the nature of the world via sourcebooks is pretty bad in terms of building on.(hacking is one of the worst subsystems in tabletop history from 3e and 4th includingg SR4A)

G.I. Joe the MMO would be great...

Alternate history Western sandbox (something like this http://www.kenzerco.com/aces_n_eights/index.html )

  • KanethKaneth Member RarePosts: 2,286

My first choice is Steampunk. The genre lends itself well to gaming. It has historic real world relevence, but also has fantastical machines that are steampowered, and even the use of alchemy in lieu of magic.

Alternative history mmos might be really fun too. Such as an mmo set in colonial times, which focuses on the East Coast of the Americas and the frontier immediately to the west, but has elements of magic via tribal mysticism. Post apocolyptic could be fun too.

Finally, a survival horror mmo would be neat too. The Secret World is touching that genre though.

    Thief: The Dark Project

An MMORPG with a similar world design would be the pinnacle of awesome (if done well), in my opinion. One part steampunk, one part religion, one part urban crawl, and just a dash of magick.

My preference would be for a William Gibson and Neal Stephenson inspired "classic" cyberpunk MMO.  Normally I despise steampunk, but I must admit an MMO set in the Thief world could be the greatest thing ever, though I'd refuse to call it steampunk and label it anachronistic dark fantasy.  ;)

I think a Samurai / Ancient Japan / China and or Medevil europe would be awesome... more realism based, wide open sandboxy.
