The Xsyon development team has let us know that the full retail release of the game will be slightly delayed from March 1, 2011 to March 15th. Devs indicated that the head start program for those who preordered brought several previously unseen issues to the forefront and the team needed more time to address them. Players preordering Xsyon will have two weeks of free game time added to their accounts.
Reason: Since the soft launch yesterday (18th) for the pre-orders, we have stumbled across a lot of problems with our servers and bandwidth etc. We have now taken steps in order to get this resolved, and have now got brand new servers set up within the next few days. We have also given pre-ordered players an extra 2 weeks of playtime for free.

A smart move. I continues to show that the Xsyon Devs are eager to make the best game possible. It was really sad when the pre-launch failed, but with good communication and a positive community, we made it through those dark hours. I can't wait for he 2nd coming of the pre-launch to begin.

Glad to see they're sorting the issues out. One thing they need to work on, however, is the spelling and grammar of their communication lol.
Very smart move. Someone else would just launch the game even knowing that is full of bugs and stuff like that - for example ER. Hope they can make it because I am going to buy that game. Just waiting for a month or so after launch.
The team did the right thing, the soft launch was rocky at best. The servers were slowed by all the downloading of the new client. Since the number of preorders had almost doubled overnight NG did not expect the influx of players. From what Jordi had stated on the forums about taking full responsibility for the let down and taking immediate steps to fix the issue just shows how good of a game this is truly going to be. A lead dev and owner of NG he stays in touch with the community on a regular basis and to me this goes miles above and beyond in a dev group. I think he is for sure doing the right thing and the game community is in full support of his decision. Congrats to you NG for stepping up and making the right decision and showing the players that the game is more important then your checkbook. The "BIG" game companies could a lot from one of the best indies around.
Nice to see updates on here. They made a good move to solve the problems, and can't wait until the new servers are up.
I'm just glad to see the community taking this so well. Out of curiousity I came through to the Xsyon forums on MMORPG.com to see how bad the flames were after Xsyon stubbed its toe a bit on launch. Suprisingly I don't see many. I also don't see rabid fanboyism, just good honest discussion.
This is a game that my friends and I (who played WoW up until last week, mainly due to the intertia) have been waiting for, for a long time. Not Xsyon specifically, but something that could make us feel like we were contributing to a player driven world.
Honestly, it hasn't taken flashy graphics, or even a polished combat system (though it would help when we get one in
Looking forward to the new servers and the wipe.
Cheers,
Clive
Yes it's refreshing to see posts being in a positive manner, but I do have to ask why so?
is it simply down to communications from the Dev team?
Still torn weather i wanna purchase this or rift.. Gotta make up my descision come friday, cuz thats when i get paid and ima have lot of extra time the week after.
Currently Playing:
Rift + Starcraft II + Gears Of War 3 Beta
After seeing what happens when companies don't push back retail release dates, I'd say this is the preferable move. Ideally there would be no issues, but that's kind of unrealistic.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
I agree that its a breath of fresh air to be in a community where not everybody is flaming or fanboying. I think Xsyon appeals to a more mature group of ppl and alot of the kiddies are there who are prone to that sort of thing. This is probably the best communities i've been in. Even when there is negative feedback, its usually is accompanied with honest discussion and debate... usually.

I am amazed that after so many posts on the article about anything in a game on this site there has been no negative comments. And this is an article about a push-back and rocky launch too! It really goes to show you how good a game Xsyon is becoming and the dev team and community around it are top notch. I'm glad to be a part of it.
If you want Elves and Magic you won't find them in Xsyon. This is a game where you Must look over your shoulder for wildlife. The critters are hungry and want you for dinner. If you want to do the solo route be advised it's very hard to do(which is why I'm doing it).
I just watched some movies of this on youtube and my god.. why your character is moving so slowly. It's as if devs decited to punish you for moving your character. If there is no way to make your char run faster it will take you 10 years to gather mats to build a tent.
Depends on where you put your starting stat points. Higher levels of Agility increases speed slightly in both walk and sprint I believe . Your run speed increases over time as well..based on use..as does jumping and everything else for that matter.. There is no "default" run speed for everyone. You need to take your time more in this game. If you want to run around like jumping jack-rabbit and "PWN" all in sight..then this is not likely your kind of game.
Dont forget the weight you are carrying can slow you down too.
@ Rudder I am pretty sure there there will be magic but no elves.
If you like sandbox mmorpg games, you'll like xsyon.
I've been hearing a lot of good things about this game lately, but when I viewed the youtube videos available, I was completely turned off. Seemed slow, weak-moderate graphics, UI seemed a bit stale, pvp seemed button-mash looking. Can someone fill me in that has played beta what is the addicting factor that makes it appealing compared to regular MMO's? I want to like it, but need to be convinced. I'm trying to find another game to play until SWTOR comes out.
Thanks.
TC
@IceTC Yes. The graphics arent the best on the market.. The UI has improved greatly since I started playing CB, PvP is sort of button smashing I guess.. as the game is based in reality... If someone attacks you, you swing your weapon of choice and try to out manuever the other guy until hes dead.. Then you take his stuff When I first started Xsyon, I spawned at one of the pre-determined newbie spots.. checked out the few tools I had available and picked a direction to run. I knew I needed water / food, but I had no fishing pole, I started my guy as a lumberjack/carpenter ,.. So I run a while and loe and behold high on a hill I spot a small tribe of players doing their thing.. I approach with caution.. luckily they are a friendly bunch that welcome me into their tribe. A few introductions and some small talk and they provide me with food and storage space, plus some of their spare tools so I can help myself better... I then find that they are actually in need of a lumberjack, so I take note of the work that needs to be done, and trek off to the mountains to find wood and haul it back in raw and woodcrafted forms. (almost 24 straight hours of play later.. and a few redbulls) We have built some walls, and a few buildings.. the tribeleader had done some terraforming to bring water right into the camp (by lowering the ground level so the river actually followed sea level).. It was quite a sight to behold.. standing up on this mountain which was quickly becoming barren of timber and watching our little town grow slowly. I could see other campfires miles away.. and the occasional stranger down the river.. I was totally immersed and completely hooked from that day forward.
Sorry for the wall of text but.. Not so great graphics... no awe inspiring spells/skills, No advanced pvp tactics... We play xsyon for the sense of actually being the remnants of american society after some apocolyptic event.. digging for leftovers and trying to rebuild some sort of civilization.. Its what Ive always wanted out of a sandbox mmo, and Ive tried to describe it in the way I saw and became hooked on it.. hope it helped :P
Positive Xyson Statement:
Xyson can potentially be the best sandbox ever made. The developers have already showed a lot of intelligent caution - especially considering the hold on live till 3/15. The community seems to be responding in a positive manner here - which is surprising considering Xyson is another anyone can kill anyone title (such as Darkfall or Mortal Online). That says a lot - in my opinion. These folks aren't going to get mainstreamed by childish immediate gratification expansions that trash your hard work. You aren't going to see giggly gnomes or Orcs who dance like MC Hammer. This mmorpg takes its player base seriously - and attracts maturity off the bat - now isn't that refreshing?
Negative Xyson Statement:
The staff are underqualified to handle the production. They mean well - but they just can't do it. It is apparent they have taken loans at the bank - so to speak, in order to get the hardware they need to maintain a player base. There just isn't enough money to keep this game afloat. Secondly, once, players realize that this is a 100 % player run economy, they will soon find out that the developers have as well created a set it and forget it attitude with the game. They will spend the next year trying to make promises they cannot keep, and instead of affording creativity, will be working on memory leaks and bugs from day 1.
Positive Rift: Planes of Telara Statement:
This is a much more polished version of the fantasy pay to play genre that previously released (post 2004). The community - at least on some servers seems fairly similar to what we find these days in online games, but there is an element of an intelligent community out there - that is trying to make sure that Trion will make good on its promises. The game seems to be a lot of fun (I've been in the last 3 of the 7 betas), and with the Rift/Public quest system - there is a step in the right direction toward doing something at least a little different than most titles today.
Negative Rift: Planes of Terara Statement:
While the game takes the good we've all experienced since WoW's release in 2004, it continues to follow the pattern of ignoring the very same fan base that helped drive the industry to begin with. PvP is the same old flag capture in an instanced Battleground mechanic - thus taking the sense of epic and any sense of medieval fantasy-realism from the game. It's the same 2 faction model - which is all the rage these days since many developers have never seen Dark Age of Camelot. You can't build your own cities, castles, towns, hence the developers have advertised they have never engaged in Shadowbane or seen how incredible it is to watch a fortress built from the ground up in Age of Conan.
You can't level in your own culture - which again means that the cultures in Rift is like most other titles - and just an afterthought. So, being a human guardian, will never mean you will ever find a continent dedicated to your culture and her history. There will be no castles and walls to protect your people's kingdom, because it doesn't exist. Instead, developers continue to cut corners (in cost and creativity) by making sure players have to cross polinate the same zones almost immediately. Warhammer's failure to keep players in their zones is a great example for people who counterargue the importance of having one's own culture in an online game - because Warhammer's cultural zones - Dark Elf Lands and such became dead zones - devoid of players due to boring environments that were just thrown together with obvious concepts not in place.
But failure was never the example in the first place. We want to draw from success when it comes to why culture means a lot to a game (or can). In Dark Age of Camelot we had cultures that were defined by more than a name tag. Armor and weapons, gods and spells, classes and the vast country each realm had,was key to solid PvP differences - and having something different in an mmorpg - is truly unique these days.
And the Rifts themselves? Isn't it neat how the spread out all over the place if left unchallenged? Warhammer also taught the player base just how old a public quest got. Most people ignored them after the first few months. The same could very well happen for the Rift experience.

Anyway - in the end, you have pluses and negatives for both. Chances are you will have more longevity with Rift, but you will never have a uniquely new experience. In Xyson, if it ever manages to float, will at least grant you a very laid back NON-theme park environment where you get to cut out a small niche of your very own piece of the world.
Personally, while I dream of a good sandbox, I have yet to see one that seems to have any real talent or support behind it. I preordered Rift - because if anything, it's a fantasy title that I enjoyed playing thus far.
However, with all of that being said, In my opinion - you should give Xyson a chance. If you are on the fence about the title (it means you've gone a lot futher than I have with it). You can play it for a few months and see how it feels. It might turn out that I'll see you there myself ;p
/my 2 cents.
People on MMORPG.com are too busy being negative with Rift right now.
Anyway, I really can't see any objective negative for pushing a release considering they're giving extra time to the pre-orders, it's just a win-win situation, more development time means a better game for release.
After playing this game for 2 weeks now, I have nothing but mad respect for these devs and this game.
except er gave extra free month
Gotta say this but the Devs seem to be listening to the players, never thought i would ever say that but so far they are. Who knows if they continue to they may have themselves a large following and money in the bank. Time will tell.

I will say I felt the exact same way when I first started to play this game. The graphics of a game are neither a turn off nor a turn on for me, and once I actually started to progress with my tribe, I was instantly hooked. Good Read Quentin

With all due respect, are you qualified to make these kind of assumptions, which is exactly what they are.
ok I checked some more videos of this and I'm actually tempted to play it. It reminds me of Ryzom and I loooved that game. But I'm still not sure if it's worth 40$ + 15$ monthly.. it depends if I will be able to pay in $ or forced to use euros since I'm from europe =P
