After playing both, whenever I go back to WoW, I feel like WoW is a "Babys Game" with its cartoony graphics and "Easy Mode" as well as some of the cutsie tootsie pets and other baby stuff I despise so much.
Whereas RIFT is like a more serious game designed for mature players and not babys like WoW.
Don't get me wrong, I loved WoW despite some things in it that I didnt like, but it is as if the Developers for RIFT are like a bunch of MMO players who got fed up with all the MMOs out there and finally said ENOUGH!
They build on the good and avoided the bad in all existing MMOs while introducing some new things as well.
Now like many good things it sometimes takes a little time to acquire a taste for the quality things on life - Wine, Cigars, Whisky, Scotch, Caviar, Sushi....and thats what happened to me in RIFT...at first I didnt like it because I thought it was another WoW clone, then after my third try and investing more time in it, I saw how much much better it was than the other MMOs same old same old.
Kudos to the RIFT devs and even more kudos to the RIFT players in the BETA, as they are so much a step above the typical immature WoW crowd. The chat is so much more mature, players work together and you will often find when you are soloing other players will invite you frequently to join your group so everyone gets credit for the quest. I have not seen any baby language or pottty talk from the players like in WoW that use that game to do and say things mommy and daddy wont let them do outside of a MMO....I have not seen anyone called gay, racist, or insulting words that are so widespread in WoW.
I truly feel if immature rude players from WoW come to RIFT they will feel like outsides as no one will tolerate it. Moreover, they will see that RIFT doesnt cater to spoiled brats who want everything now now now with little effort.
Which is fine by me...as I hope the current player base in RIFT is here to stay and the WoW brats stay in WoW.

I didn't read anything you had to say. Simply because of the level of ignorance that you named your title.
There is no "Variable"killer. There NEVER will be. Sonic is the new Mario killer. Nope wrong. Because people STILL play both. They will forever play when they enjoy as fun. If you think Rift is for you congradu-fucking-lations. Noone cares. Its this type of fourm BS that makes people hate MMO players.

This is what MMORPG players have known since 2004... WoW has always been aimed at casuals and kids, but it didn't stop it from being successful. I couldn't play WoW because all the MMOs that came out before felt so much better, but that didn't make THEM WoW killers. And considering Rift is 90% WoW with a small dash of its own boring flavor, it won't topple anything. There is no WoW killer. Time will be what brings WoW down. Same for most MMOs. No specific "game" killed EQ. EQ killed EQ. DAoC killed DAoC. SWG killed SWG. Stop making silly assumptions. And any game with a dungeon finder tool can not be considered "serious" or "for adults". If it has instances, it is casual.
Right there with ya. Can see how some folks consider WoW to be on "easy mode", particularly at the start. But for the life of me I can't figure how that same person could consider Rift to NOT be in easy mode.
Sorry mods, but I can't wait to necro this thread...
it is as if the Developers for RIFT are like a bunch of MMO players who got fed up with all the MMOs out there and finally said ENOUGH!
And yet they went and made the game more similar to WoW than any MMO.
Don't get me wrong, I liked WoW my first few playthroughs and will probably be buying Rift. But don't pretend it's something new.
I agree that Rift has the potential to knock out a lot of WoW subs, but not because it's different- instead because it's the same.
It's the first viable alternative for wow players that love wow but are bored with Azeroth.

He who keeps his cool best wins.
First I thought this would be a satire OP, which can be fun.
Then I saw it's just sheer enthusiasm.
Still, 'WoW killer'?

The ACTUAL size of MMORPG worlds: a comparison list between MMO's
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums:

Read the title, didn't bother to read the OP but

Lol.
When are people going to realize that dubbing a game "Da WOW Killa" is the kiss of death? I had hopes for Rift but now...
Just what the heck is so revolutionary about Rift?
Rifts? Think WAR PQs that spawn mobs that attack quest hubs so you can't quest there and are forced to participate in the "world event." Sort of reminds me of a WOW PvP server except there it's other players griefing by killing quest giving NPCs. Now it's institutionalized in a PvE way...
The "soul" class system? I admit it has potential but it's already leading to just a few OP'd combos that every one will play... just like we knew it would.
Kudos to them for having a solid nearly bug-free world with interesting architecture and environments but revolutionary it ain't.
It'll be sort of like having WOW without the... err... WOW.

this made me lol thank you for the overly optimistic post about a game no one will be talking about in a year
There is a stickied thread here for these kinds of comparison discussions. Please use it. We are trying to cut down on thread redundancy as to allow discussion of the game itself.
