Epic Stories of MMORPG Nerdage

Here is a thread where we can share stories, whether they be embarassing, extremely nerdy, funny, or "cool".

Don't be afraid to share! I will stare with a rather humiliating teenage experience caused by teenage drama (which surprisingly, I was the only teenager in all of the players involved...lol...)

========

Here is one story of when UO first released, and I was going through puberty. Full of hilarious facepalming teenager-ism, revenge, irony, but most of all a really good story to tell, at least for myself.

================

When I was 12 years old, I had an in-game girlfriend who said she was 13, and we hunted Ophidians nearby since T2A just released. So for a few weeks we were "together" hunting each day until this rich (lots of gold) powerful (high magery skill, while I only had medium swords) 66 year old man named Zhar stole her from me.

I didn't see her for days, until I found them in a secluded hunting spot not far from where "we" hunted. I dueled him and we fought, Warrior vs Mage. For the 4 years I played UO, I specialized my playstyle to be anti-mage from the very beginning, so I brought him to 1% life, and the battle stopped while he stated "I don't care. Go ahead. Do it! She will hate you!" and I wanted to kill him to "claim my girlfriend" and "rescue the damsel in distress" but she intervened and demanded I stopped, yelling out my name "REGETA!!! STOP THIS!! DONT KILL HIM!!" (wow...so dramatic for something that really didnt matter...lol) so I "spared his life" for her, and backed off while she healed him. "You're only alive because of her, Zhar." They gated away and I never saw them again until...

4 years later I was 16 years old and everyone was still playing-- and I met her again at a bank, and  she led me to her house where she was having a party where he and many others were. I went to her house in the wilderness and after I said my goodbye (after somehow eating her house-bound rare fruit basket that cost over 100k, lol) Zhar was waiting outside for me and he attacked me along with his friends as I fell into his ambush. I slid under the house and hid, barely escaping with 10% of my life (I always favored hiding in PvP) and stealthed my way back to town. After brushing up and putting away my valuables, I saw him approach the bank, and saw my chance for revenge. (We were in the same guild, as the girl invited me in before I left her house to almost die, so I was free to fight Zhar in the town) I fought him and since he was alone, as always, I outclassed him and I brought him to his knees again at 1% health. On his knees with my sword at his throat he spoke, "She left me just like she did you-- for a 44 year old who has GM healing, 7xGM." (Wow...now that I think about it...she was just a Skill whore who went with whoever gave her the most gold and had the highest important skill..and a pedophile...)

I felt all the pain my teenage angst put upon me for those 4 years (I was 16 years old at this moment), as that girl was my first "love" (Embarassing, lol, but I was 12...) And I thought of giving him mercy, but the painful memories flashed in my head, so I denied his request for mercy and as as I raised my sword to execute him his bitter voice echoed in my mind,  smirking in the irony, "She is not who you thought she was Regeta..."

"NO WAY, SHUT UP!!!" I replied, unable to come up with better words as I was just a stupid teenager at the time, and that is when I began to pursue her and "the truth". I was relentless and didn't leave her alone until I found out she was a 33 year old pedophile who lied to me that she was the same age as me. Instantly, my "Love" for her that I held on to from the age of 12 to 16 disappeared. "EWW! You look older than my mom!" I replied when she sent me her IRL photo. She frowned, as I blocked her and thought "WTF DUDE?"

So I went to what was once "our" hunting spot, and tossed the soulbound wedding ring on the spot I proposed to her on-- and right before I went to pick it back up, second guessing myself, it vanished (no lie) and I couldn't ever get it back. I had this ring in my backpack for over 4 years, and it was the only piece of blessed gear I had. So I accepted my loss, and moved on.

Yep, I'm a real big nerd, but that is kindof a funny story, lol... and can you blame me? I was 12 years old at the time. And if that 66 year old man hadn't taken her from me, I would have been molested by a pedophile.

If being a developer means being quiet, mature, well-spoken, and disconnected from the community, then by all means do me a favor and believe I'm not one.

    Haha, what a great story! Really liked it! Too bad that such stories only happen in the shards of the old-school UO!

    Sandbox MMORPGs that are not very well-known but definitely worth a look:

    Ryzom, Haven and Hearth, Xsyon, The Repopulation, UO private shards, Mortal Online, Darkfall 1 remakes (New Dawn or Rise of Agon), RPG MO, Project Gorgon, EQ: Sanctuary (custom  server)

    Did you post this a few years back? I remember reading this a long time ago.

    Anyways, good story.

    Most of my highest nerdyrage moments were definitely in EQ.

    He who keeps his cool best wins.

    I was steaming.

    Probably, but must have been years ago. I've shared the story plenty of times, and "kindof" remember (or pretend-remember) sharing it here, but it had to have been many years ago, definitely not 2010 and maybe not even 2009.
