My  other point is that we just don't know. Bioware/EA/LA hasn't chosen to tell us yet. I hope it will be in spring, but I don't really expect it to be. Like I said, hope for the best, but expect the worst. Also, like I said, open beta will only be about 4 weeks long.

Edit: Also, if you go back to the OPs post, he wanted a factual answer, not speculation. The fact is we have no definitive release date other than that rather wide window between March 31st and January 1st.

Good point all the way around BarakIII.  It might have been nice if the OP would have done a little more research himself before posting this thread.

I think they want to get the game out as soon as it's ready to be let out, but the official statement no longer says spring of 2011.  It just says any time after april 1st but before the end of the year.

Could've sworn they were on the strict 'spring 2011' statement.

They were until 02.04.2011 , 09:12 AM in which case they changed it to mimic what EA has been stating.

    Source is here: http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=258996

Doesn't mean it can't come out in spring but they changed their official notice from spring 2011 to april 1st-dec 31st of 2011

Everything I have read official and "unofficial" lead me to believe it will come out early this summer.

    In Bioware we trust!

If I were developing a game, I'd push for an early summer release, when all of the kiddies are out of school and looking for something to do.

Actually Solestran, sales figures show that this particular industry is hurt by the summer months in general, especially subscription based games.  If I remember the article correctly, they said that many people let their subscriptions lapse or do not buy games in the summer because they are off doing other things such as summer jobs, vacations, playing outside in the good weather, etc.

I'm not saying this game couldn't be released in the summer timeframe, but that little statistic often pushes games to be released more often in either the spring or fall / holiday timeframes.

I do seem to remember though, that someone at BioWare said they would be making a very big deal out of announcing the release date for SWTOR, so that leads me to believe that a huge convention setting, such as PAX East in March, would be the type of situation they would anounce the release date for this game.  That would also get them a HUGE amount of free advertising too since every gaming reporter out their would be saying something about it.

Still, until someone comes out from BioWare and actually says otherwise, I am going with the last "offical" time frame they said, to the general public,  of spring 2011.

As others have stated, BW said Spring 2011 and I wouldn't be surprised if we get the release date at PAX in a few weeks.

Think it was in one of EA reports, might have been the last one.  Stating something to the extent that ToR will release in calander year 2011

Edit: quote "[5:19pm] – TOR will ship in Calendar 2011, after Fisccal 2011 – in Fiscal 2012" from the earnings call heres the link: http://www.askajedi.com/tag/release-date/

So this means it will relase in October, November or December 2011? What a complex way to say it.

Its a shifty way of saying "probably second half of 2011 and we haven't explicitly ruled out our past target date"

Fiscal year 2012 is likely referring to: (April 2011 - March 2012).  Though, Fiscal calendars tend to vary from company to company, or based on industry.  The first of the Fiscal year for them could be beginning of April (as someone pointed out, April 1st - Dec 31st) or it could be the beginning of October.

I'm not very knowledgable on how Fiscal calendars work though, this is just what I've noticed from doing some searches online.  Correct me if Im wrong :)

Yes, EAs fiscal year begins in April and not October.

    You have it right

    Heres how it goes.

EA fiscal years always start on april 1st of the previous year for which the year is stating,

For example if EA is talking about FY 2010

Now EA FY calander always starts in April because their Fiscal calander is always 8 months before the calander year) and goes to March So anytime they say a date in FY times (like 1st quater of FY 2012) Just move that time period back 8 months and you'll get the correct time period in calander days as well.

So in this case if they are looking for the game to come out in EA FY 2012 that would translate the window to

anytime between april 1st 2011 to March 31st 2012 (because we moved the fiscal year days of 2012 back 8 days moving part of that year back into 2011 to compensate for the difference)

However in the EA earnings call they said it would relese in calander year 2011 (thats our normal calander)

So that removes all dates in 2012.

Which leaves us with any time between April 1st 2011 to december 31st 2011.  That is the correct release window

It can release anytime in that period.  Though granted some dates (like spring and fall) are more likely then others due to trying to get the best sales and such.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.
