    WoW > GW

    'nuff said really.

Guild wars isnt an MMO like we know it today, GW is realy linear game PvE. and for the PVP its kinda the same but with real ppl...

PvE will drive you nutz, and when your done you'll never wanna go back.

PVP is ok, can be real fun if you do it with a group of ppl that you know and can make tactics with.

AND you can play how little you want and still be usefull and dont feel miles behind just cuz you dont have those insane hours to spend on a game.

Whats the obession with everyone always compering two recently released games with each other? They arnt even the same id say buy them both you dont have to pay a sub with guild wars so theres no need to be conflicted.

I prefer Guild Wars to WoW personally.

They are drastically different games, though I find that Guild Wars is a better 'multiplayer' game overall. The regular story driven group missions (PVE) are great fun, instant travel is unbelievably convenient and the PVP is fantastic thanks to a sweet combat system that lends itself well to forward planning and team strategy. The other two plus points for Guild Wars are how easy it is to step into the world for very short sessions and still feel like you've accomplished something (and not been left too far behind by the power gamers) and the fact that there's no subscription to pay.

Guild Wars lacks a lot of mechanics and social depth that I crave from a true MMO, so I'm keeping on the lookout for a subscription based MMO to play alongside it. I can't ever see myself putting this down, it's a good multiplayer game and will keep it's appeal much like Counter Strike and Battlefield due to the lack of subscription to pay. image

I'm one of those in the minority who didn't find WoW very appealing and put it down after a very short amount of time, so someone else's opinion who rates both games highly would probably be more useful. Just take it from me that GW is a very good game image

I have to praise the novelty and originality of this thread.

On my "WoW vs GW" count-o-meter we reach number 1,321 thread.
I might be wrong though.........since I often fall asleep while reading them...........yawn....

It's the same obsession people have with trying to choose the most popular game on the market. Equally true is that it's the same obsession with trying to prove that the game one is playing must be the best game on the market.

For some reason some people seem to be obsessed with making the "right" choice, and that choice often seems to be defined by being the most popular. "I want to be special, just like everyone else."

Who cares? Well maybe people that want to make an informed decision on how they spend their money? Anywho, as of right now my vote went to Guild Wars.

I had been playing WoW since about release, and I havent seen much of an improvement in the game. If im paying $15 a month, you better be adding content that is worthwhile. The honor system was... half ass if you ask me. It didnt inspire honor at all. Instead of getting ganked by one person while you were fighting a mob, you get ganked by 5. But i guess i should stop bashing WoW and get down to game mechanics.

WoW: It has its ups and downs. Emersive world, easy crafting system, interesting combat, somewhat of a pvp system, character customization is average. My biggest complant is in the community, I think that allowing every class to solo to lvl60 made everyone want to solo to 60. The only time i ever looked for a group was to do an instance, which wasnt very often. And when i did get a group it was play for a few hours and never talk to them again. I think the community is lacking in the aspect of making friends. I know it kinda sounds fruity, but i like to talk to people in a game where im playing with hundreds of other people. Why else would you be playing online? Another thing that bothered me was that I couldnt relate to a class. Usually there is a class that stands out to me, but i was always jumping around making new characters. I think that was my own problem, not the game, but the one class I really got into, fell short at about lvl35. Now, not everything if bad about WoW, it is one of the best mmo's out there. I dont feel like i wasted my money on it, but when i cancelled my account, i felt like it was time and I havent regreted it.

Guild Wars: An interesting new twist to the MMO market. No subscription fee? there must be something wrong with it. Well it has its faults as well. Think of the instancing in WoW, but think of that almost all the time. The only time you are really interacting with other players is when you're in town, which.. is somewhat irritating. But you can take a party in the areas with you. (starts as a party of 2 and increases as you get more into the game.) Another thing this game lacks is equipment. I there are only a few types of armour for each class and they are class specific. The community is a little better in this game then in WoW i have found, I easily found a guild that I like and have made a few friends in the first week of playing. Also, I found a class that caught my eye and hasnt let me down yet (besides picking the wrong secondary class..=) Speaking about that, the class system works fairly well, it allows the player to come up with a unique combination of two classes in the game, combining their strengths and weaknesses. Its just something new being brought to the plate that i find works well. As far as the fun factor of this game, id have to give it an 8 as of now. The story line has kept my attention, and grouping with others to complete missions has been a joy. Also probably the most fun ive had in this game is the PvP. With a little practice and a little tact, you can win many rounds and i find winning enjoyable.

As far as which game is right for you, i can decide. All i offer is information about what aspects i find to be more rewarding about each game. Guild wars not having a monthly fee does make me wonder about updates, in not sure if they plan on updating at all, which might be a downfall, but we shall see. As of now, my vote is for Guild Wars, mainly because i find the community a little more interactive. The instancing is... annoying at times, but with a party, its not bad. In the end, its a personal decision, and if you feel you would like an immersive world to run around in and be "able" to party at any time you wish, try WoW. If you'd like an instanced world, that isnt as immersive, but still interesting, and a class system that keeps your attention and makes you feel a little unique. Try Guild Wars. There are many things from each game i havent covered, but these are the things that stand out in my mind the most at this moment in time. Thanks for reading.

I said who cares because there have already been multiple threads on this or something like it.

    Once again, who cares?

For a real answer, try both games or wait until they go down in price so you dont wastte $50 in case you dont like one.

  • JimiKJimiK Member UncommonPosts: 22

not tried Guild Wars, but imo WoW is such a big hype (tho its good that its getting more new players to try mmos)

There are enormous number of threads/polls about this comparison. I can understand why the first one created for, yet what the hell can be the reason for tons of copies of first one?

I won't reply another thread that is related to this comparison.
