Ok, with the multiple souls. Are the additional souls just additional skillsets or does one actually switch between the souls they have? For example, I went Sentinel/Warden so that I have a dedicated healer and a group healer. Do I have to click something to switch between those two at any point, or is it just that I now have multiple trees I can develop?
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

All those soul tree and root abilities, both passive and active ,are available to use. I think when you purchase new roles then you can switch back and forth..almost like a completely difference class ..however I have not done this so I may be way off.
Anyone know how well roles work in their experiences?
I saw roles available for 30 gold on the vendor - are roles and souls different?

I would like to know the answer to this as well.

You can pick and use any skill from the trees you have selected together in game. Use a heal from Warden, then a skill from Sentinal. Passives are same. Once you put points in, you can use it.
Roles are just different configurations of skills. You might make a role for raiding which is strong on your healing skills, and switch to a solo role which you have points in DPS and control with just a single self-heal. So switching roles is kind of like an on-the-fly respec to a different build.
Anyone correct me if I'm wrong.
From what I just read piecemeal from various sources....you can purchase up to 3 different ROLES...each with 3 souls. They can be 3 different souls from your original spec...or any combination of any souls you have acquired. I say "that you have acquired" because apparently each class has a max of 8 souls eventually to choose from...some of which come at later levels or are a challenge to obtain. These ROLES can be setup up so you can switch from a melee dps to ranged dps to tanking etc...based on need. Or , in your case...switch from a hybrid healer to a better group healing ROLE or PVE solo healing ROLE..or more DPS battle healer. I think there may be a "cool down" period between changes to avoid changing "on the fly" exploits.
Again...anyone else..please contribute your experiences.
That's awesome if that's true because that is exactly what I am looking to do. I want to have a dedicated healer for raiding and group combat, and a solo role that I can use so that I can level on my own when needed/wanted.

If you are familiar with WOW's system.
Callings = specs
Souls = Talent tree
The difference here, is instead of 3 trees, each of the 4 main classes has 8 trees each. 7 PVE trees, 1 PVP tree.
You unlock 3 trees of your choice as you do beginniner quests (within the first 5-10 minutes of gameplay). You can unlock the rest of your PVE trees when you get to the first main city hub. (I got there around level 15). You do one quest for one tree at a time which is extreamily simple to do.
You can only have 3 souls or less (talant trees) active at any one time. Effectivaly making your spec. You can have up to 4 callings (specs) and can switch between them freely. Costs gold to unlock more spec slots. 30 gold was the first one i unlockd, didn't bother unlocking others to know if it's more expensive or the same price.
Just like wow, press N to switch specs.
I hope this clears up everything.
Yes...you beat me to it...was going to say "if you ever used the multiple specs i n WOW...then its' the same thing."
It is awesome. Like many have said RIFT takes a lot of same old..and tweaks and polishes it for a great experience. SOLES,,,well Its not a new system (again..see WOW specs.or other games for that matter)..just the way Rifts opens it up and makes it so versatile seems new to me. Its a fun game to play imo..to be sure.
Thanks! That does explain a lot for me.
Last I played WOW was prior to TBC, so I was unfamiliar with the spec switching. Cool system.
