Already have been receiving emails from Blizzard to come bacxk to WoW with their 7 day free game time advertisement. Paranoid much ?
Coincidental. They send these out periodically. I get them all the time.
Coincidental perhaps but they are always aware of what is going on. No doubt in my mind games are taking some kind of hit in population due to Rift's launch, including WoW.
Ya, same hear. If fact..best I can tell, everyone that quit has been getting these emails. Me thinks their scared. Of course, If I was running that peice of S***, I would be too.
I thought this was going to be about receiving the in-game tells from Plat Sellers and Power Levelers... because yes, that has already started.
As annoying as it may be, they certainly are funny - wanting $10 to power level from 1 to 10. I nearly pissed myself laughing as I reported and ignored them (would be nice if report also ignored).
Hrmmm, Blizzard must not love me though - I have not received any such email from them. Then again, my account only expired two days ago...oh well.
I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?
No company wants to lose money and every sub other games take from WOW is money lost for them. They have become accustomed to high sub numbers and going to try and hold onto that....like any company would.

While that might be true, you do realize that even if RIFT's entire 1 million population (or whatever it is that they're claiming) came from WoW alone, Blizzard would still have 11 million subs? I just don't really see the serious threat. Sure every company loathes the loss of money, but it's not going to break them.
Apart from the fact that the longevity of those subs to RIFT are still a toss up. Some people may tire of it quickly, others may not. I think it's too early to be calling it really. Let's wait until we're at least 3 months in. By then maybe it will be easier to tell what damage has been done to WoW (if any....and I'm betting on nothing significant) and how many are actually going to stay with RIFT long term.

Rift is far from any WoW killer but I think what amazes me the most is that for a comjpnay who is claiming 12 mill active "coincidentally" spammed emails out the day of Rift's head start. Sometime things just make you wonder. Anyway, playing this until Guild Wars 2!

Just a clarification WoW NA/Europe Subscription number is about 4.5 million which accounts for most of revenue (the rest in china and asia where subs costs are much lowers and WoW is licensed and handled by other companies). When back WAR came out WoW NA active player base dipped by about 25%.
The problem is blizzard already has infratstructure to support 2.5 million players in NA so even .5 million drop will have huge impact on the bottom line and will require blizzard to can some new servers.

You make a very interesting point there, actually. I forget that such a large percentage of WoW's subs are Asian.
two things bother me... I got the named "Wind" on the Deepstrike server in Beta... and its already taken so i went with Zhuge...
and the fact that Deepstrike is always 4+ hour queue (which is a good thing because last time I heard supposdly it was around 2 Mil pre-orders.. I remember morons on these forums saying it wouldnt reach above 300K.
As for the download... I pre-ordered through Steam, I have a 40mbit download 5 upload connection... My Rift was completely done within 35 minutes, start to finish 8? gigs? or whatever. then it just simply patched two very small patches for server maintange or something... no complaints about the patcher or getting the game.. depend show you GOT the game.
anyway seems this game will be a huge sucess, My buddy who was obsessed with wow (I stopped years ago) his guild about half of them played Rift in beta, and its a 200 person raiding guild / pvp arena etc and he said basically 3/4ths of the guild all transfered over to RIFT and are playing at headstart right now... and only thing holding him back is the fact that he is broke. so.... these guys (majority) played atleast open beta, liked what they played, the guild leader played it all through beta with a bunch of the guild members and it found its new home. Anyone I talk to who plays wow says their guilds took either large chunks, became obsoloete or just had a few key members of the raid group dissapear off to rift.
VERY good sign imo.
Rift to be next next high selling high $ making competetive market MMO.
Blizzard just know that there is a high probability that some of their previous subscribers will most likely try out RIFT. There is also a high probability that some of those people may not enjoy RIFT, and by offering a return trial, they may be able to get said person to return to WoW.
It's business, not conspiracy theories.
And if that don't work in 3 months if your account is still inactive it will get "comprimised" and you will have to call in and resub to check your account. Not that blizz gms would do that or anything.

I hope RIFT does do that well, although...I have no idea where you heard 2 mil pre-orders. HOWEVER....I hope you're right. The MMO genre needs a good shot in the arm and in my opinion, spreading out the subscriptions over more games is a GREAT thing.
Myself, I didn't care for RIFT. It's not my type of game. But MY type of games (EQ2 and UO) already exist, so why not have some DIFFERENT kinds of games out there? I don't understand why people get so bunged up over new games that make a nice little place for themselves. It's good for the whole market which means.....it's good for the people that aren't playing the new game TOO.
Well since the HS isn't exactly going according to 'plan' I doubt that Blizz would need to be worried (for example I have been downloading the client for the past 48+ hours to no avail).
M
Why is it not going to plan haha?
I installed the game 30 minutes before headstart launch with ease. Then myself and some friends played on and off all day with not a single problem.
They also started with 29 servers and added ~7-9 throughout the day.
I am still looking for the problem. Please tell me.
So how do you feel about loosing time doing the same old thing you've done for the last 5 or so years in previous MMO's? Has that feeling of being lab rat put at the start of the same maze yet again with the only difference being walls painted with better colors?

Ah yes the fabled person who gets no problems when downloading/installing/running an MMO clinet during HS, etc. that surely means there are NO problems WHATSOEVER...
How about instead of me hand holding you during the past stressful 48+ hours you isntead take your laziness to the technical section of the official RIFT forums and check out th multitiude of issues that have arisen from beta to release?
Don't be so stupid in believing just because you and a small number of mates had no issues that everyone in the world is unplagued by any issues, all it does is show your immaturity/niavity.
M
My game worked fine day one, downloaded it the night prior. Sorry you're having issues. Server I wanted was a bit full.
The only official statement I have heard from Trion was that server pop is capped at 1500. That could be the reason for the full servers.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
I uninstalled the beta client and all remnants using Revo Uninstaller..then it took about 35-45 minutes to download the new client . The most problems I've had is finding a new server because my beta server (Faeblight) was full. *sniff* *sniff*.
From the forums I've read ,my experiences and chat in game...most problems (again, other than full servers) are few and far between relative to the population. Maybe other countries are having unusual amounts of issues...idk. Hope it doesn't affect subscription renewals...I'd really love to see RIFT maintain (and grow) in population.
Truly liking this game so far.
Hah I was aiming for Faeblight too, BC. I made toons that night...but yeah, being 738 in line was meh.
The only official statement I have heard from Trion was that server pop is capped at 1500. That could be the reason for the full servers.
That was a BETA server cap.
Do you have an official statement by them on what the cap is? If not how about asking on the forums.

You have a quote from a pre-beta interview, was pointing out you failed to mention that part. To be honest, I don't really care much, and I play the game. Do you play?
Let's stick with your math, there are how many servers now, 30 something? So there are only 45,000 people on the planet playing. I'm not sure what you're looking for here but we'll say me and 44,999 people are playing.
Already have been receiving emails from Blizzard to come bacxk to WoW with their 7 day free game time advertisement. Paranoid much ?
Wow is going on what? 7 years?
Blizzard will milk WOW for everything they can while they make a new MMO. Standard business practice, so no surprise there.
I Don't think Rift is going to be the next King Kong MMO like some people think. It's a decent MMO and is fun to play, but it can become tedious and boring rather quick if your tired of the same old cookie cutter MMO system.
Rifts can be fun but after awhile you realize there just a gimmick and at times very annoying, I was playing today on a new server and there was maybe 5 or 6 of us in the zone and 15+ rifts opened up with raid parties, we were Zerg by NPC's non-stop for over an hour... They definitely need to tweak the system.
Soul Trees look really cool, but most of the souls are kind of worthless and if you don't use the right combination you end up with a gimped avatar. Not to mention all the balance issues it causes.
Other then Rifts and the Soul Tree system, Rift is just a carbon copy of the MMO's that came before it.

Yeah they increased the cap, can't remember the exact number but it was 3 or 5k.....I imagine they will loosen up the numbers once people get settled into the servers and up it maybe 300-500, enough to get rid of most ques atm....No word has been put out on that, just a gut feeling, but not until probably the official launch is started.

Nah rift is no wow clone; it's just hilarious that Blizzard e-mails reminders at this time.
Rift isn't even a Big Mac it's the cheapest fast food burger around. Besides that rift should be called Rmtift or something.
